Megan Thee Stallion Claims Record Label Won't Let Her Release New Music

An ex-girlfriend of R. Kelly testified that she was forced to perform degrading acts while being filmed, including one where she had to smear feces on her face and put it in her mouth. After recording the video Kelly told her she "wasn’t into it enough" and that she "would have to redo it."

Homeboy sandman dropped by tour company over COVID views

Posted: 24 Aug 2021 12:36 PM PDT

OBC just announced they'll be cancelling all dates they booked for Homeboy Sandman's fall tour due to him encouraging fans to ignore COVID safety protocols and spreading misinformation.

Facebook announcement

Excerpt:

he self sabotaged the tour by sending out email blasts with wild misinformation regarding covid and advising fans to ignore safety protocols at venues along with refusing to take covid tests or wear a mask indoors. I let people have their views and opinions and never say much about it but when youre infringing on others peoples right to be safe and healthy at a concert and youre outright telling folks to discard venue policy, I cant let that go down. The Homeboy Sandman Tour in Sept is canceled and he is no longer with OBC, Nolan will be doing a small run with Boog Brown later this year and Homeboy Sandman is off of the tour with Dark Time Sunshine in November, who will be adding another act to their tour tba soon.

Honestly I'm not entirely surprised, he's always been a bit out there and released a song in July about how eating vegetarian cures everything (including cancer)

Please take health regulations seriously in a pandemic and don't spread misinformation. This is not the hill to make your last stand on.

[DISCUSSION] Nas - King's Disease (One Year Later)

Posted: 24 Aug 2021 12:09 PM PDT

King's Disease is the twelfth studio album by American rapper Nas. It was released on August 21, 2020, through Mass Appeal Records and marketed by Universal Music Group. It succeeds his eleventh studio album, Nasir, released two years prior. The album features guest appearances from Charlie Wilson, Hit-Boy, Big Sean, Don Toliver, Lil Durk, Anderson .Paak, Brucie B, Nas's supergroup the Firm, Fivio Foreign, and ASAP Ferg.

King's Disease was met with generally positive reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 72, based on eight reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews".

The album won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, becoming Nas' first Grammy. The album's sequel, King's Disease II, was released on August 6, 2021 and is Nas's first release to be marketed by Sony Music (through The Orchard subsidiary) since the release of Street's Disciple in 2004.

Background

Following the release of his twelfth studio album Nasir, Nas stated that he would be working on an unfinished album produced by Swizz Beatz and RZA, who both contributed to Nas' compilation album The Lost Tapes 2 in 2019. However, on August 10, 2020, Nas announced via Instagram he would be releasing a different album produced and executive produced by American record producer Hit-Boy, which would become known as King's Disease. Four days later, on August 14, Nas released the album's lead and only single, "Ultra Black", featuring Hit-Boy.

One Week Later

I love the project. We all know Hit-Boy is a top notch producer, but the way how this album is so smooth and soulfull, yet modern is amazing. It fits Nas perfectly and he flows on it like crazy. It is really a return to form. Also the features are well picked (I don't really fw Fivio's verse, but the song still fire). A few of my favorite moments are the intro which is just beautiful start to the album, Nas and Sean giving each other shout outs at the end of Replace Me and of course Full Circle. To hear them all back together on a track is just amazing, they all delivered and man that Dre outro wtf! I didn't see that coming. Really good album on the first few listens and I think it will age even better. Nas a GOAT

I think this my favourite since Life is Good. Hit Boy did his thing on the production and I would love to see more collabs between these 2 greats in the future.

I was never a huge fan of Nas. I always appreciated and respected his legacy/catalog but I never bumped his stuff at all.

This album has blown me away from front to back. I don't really know what clicked for me on this album, maybe a perfect mixture of great beats and smooth lyrics/flow? There's so much variety on this album so there's never a dull moment which probably kept me hooked too.

My favorite track off of this project, and maybe one of my favorite tracks of the last few years, was hands down "Til the war is won". Without going too deep, I really connected with the subject matter and hearing Nas spill his emotions with meaningful lyrics over that beautiful instrumental was just amazing.

Then you got Durk coming in singing/rapping and he just perfectly compliments this track.

(Sidenote: does anyone else know of any other songs where Durk, or a similar artist, sounds like he did on this track? I already fuck with his typical style but he killed this feature and I'm fiending for similar songs.)

Discussion Questions

  • What are the best tracks on this?
  • How does it compare to the sequel? Where does it stack up in Nas's discography
  • How does this compare to the late career work of Nas's contemporaries like Jay-Z
  • How does this compare to other Hit-Boy releases of 2021 (his solo album, Burden of Proof with Benny the Butcher, Detroit II with Big Sean)
  • Favorite bar? Best verse?
  • Do you think Nas works well with the more modern features?
