Best Verse, Week 107 - Quavo

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 01:06 PM PDT

Migos front man is this weeks best verse!

Background: American rapper, songwriter and musician, Quavious Keyate Marshall, better recognised by his stage name 'Quavo' is the co-founder of the popular hip-hop/ rap group 'Migos'. Along with Kirshnik (Takeoff) and Kiari (Offset), Quavo has released singles that have topped at the US music charts. The trio's debut single 'Versace' made it to the U.S. billboard 100 and had music artists such as Drake and Justin Bieber gushing over the song on their social media accounts. Canadian rapper Drake went on to create a remix version of the song with the rap group. Quavo began his career in 2013, and has continued to belt out one hit after another with his latest single 'Bad and Boujee' topping the U.S. Billboard chart. As a teenager Quavo had dreams of making it to the helm of the hip hop industry, and since the launch of his career, he has received success in each enterprise. He is currently managed by 'Coach K' and has collaborated with producers such as Zaytoven and Murda Beatz. The rapper has often found himself and his group members in controversies either pertaining to illicit possession of drugs or inciting a riot. However, he hasn't let these charges come in the way of his success.

Best Beats 2.0, Week 38 - Mike Dean

Posted: 30 Apr 2017 01:03 PM PDT

Houston very own is this week's best beats!

Background: Mike Dean started doing collaborations with numerous Texan artists, including Selena, for whom Dean served as musical director and producer. Dean first became widely known for pioneering the Dirty South sound in the 1990s, particularly in work for artists from Rap-A-Lot Records. Dean has most notably worked alongside Scarface of the Geto Boys, Do or Die, Tha Dogg Pound, Yukmouth of the Luniz, C-Bo, Nate Dogg, Tech N9ne, UGK, Z-Ro, Devin the Dude, Outlawz and 2Pac.

Dean went on to mix, produce and master widely throughout American hip hop. He has become known for his work with Kanye West. After initially contributing to the mixing of West's albums The College Dropout and Late Registration, Dean contributed as producer on West's Graduation, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Yeezus, and The Life of Pablo albums.[4] He also co-produced with West on his collaboration album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne. Dean was an additional producer on "Mercy" and "Higher" on GOOD Music's 2012 compilation album Cruel Summer. Dean has made particularly heavy contributions on West's last albums, and is credited on most tracks.

In recent years, Mike Dean has served as a regular guitarist and keyboardist for Kanye West at his live performances, headlining numerous music festivals, the Watch the Throne Tour, and the Yeezus Tour. Dean has also been a frequent collaborator with Travis Scott. Dean's production has appeared on every one of Scott's musical bodies of work from 2013 to the present. In 2016, Dean mastered Frank Ocean's visual album Endless, and wrote and produced tracks on Desiigner's mixtape New English and produced Desiigner's single "Tiimmy Turner"

In the month of February I released a high quality EP every week, got posted on DJBooth and various other blogs and moved to Germany, but I'm stuck in a radio silence.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 11:51 AM PDT

Title. Past few months have been busy as hell, but since moving out here to Europe I haven't been able to record and I'm losing that momentum, though my writing has found new inspiration! I think I have a ton of non discovered music that's too good to go unnoticed, or maybe I'm wrong and DJbooth and my small fan-base have been trolling this entire time, but who knows? right? Here's some of my work that you should berate endlessly.

Loosies:

Director's Cut - Stream of conscious shit

Invisible Maps - one of my favorite verses even though its nowhere near my best.

Dreaming - feature standout.

February EP's ( these are all conceptual pieces finished after my album released in December):

Subtleties: "yesterday was not just a day, but I'm fine."

Subtleties:"stuck in the pit of the devil's stomach." My personal favorite

Subtleties:"UPROOTED"

Subtleties: Stories, and something that actually happened. - my 2nd favorite from the series

Subtleties: guillotine style The piece that landed us on DJBOOTH

Album:

PRISM THIS is my BABY. it took two years to complete. Outside of the production i did everything, writing recording, mixing, mastering. Wherever I go with my art this piece of work will always hold a very close and dear place in my heart, and after listening to it, for very apparent reasons. PRISM is very eclectic and insightful and I think the only caveat to it is it's length but until next year this is my magnum Opus.

I also released two Music Videos for Prism that I Directed and edited myself. Flooded Skies

Tonight and the day after

So thats it. Last year was eventful and though I'm in a bit of a slow patch right now Im always working on something. I know nobody is going to go through all of this, but I think its something in here for just about everybody. I will be the best.

Posted: 29 Apr 2017 10:08 PM PDT

So Sampha was the opener for the XX and I have to say, Sampha was 10x better. He sounds so good live and he really gets into his music. I was afraid to bring it up in the crowd, but then someone else said the mutual thought and then everyone else started agreeing.

I'm not saying that the XX are bad and in fact, they are very good. I'm mainly saying here that I was blown away by Sampha's performance and so were many others.

If you haven't listened to him, please give him a shot.

XXL Freshman List Spoilers - Based on who is in NY Right Now

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 10:51 AM PDT

I didn't find enough people talking about this, but the XXL List is quite easy to predict right now. The XXL HQ is in NYC, so all you have to do is look at rappers twitter/instagrams and see who is visiting NYC.

Very Probable

XXXTENTACION - This one is pretty simple. The XXL Mag twitter themselves tweeted this picture: https://twitter.com/XXL/status/856539382869831680 meaning X and Ski Mask the Slump God are both in the same place, and Ski is in Soho. Also with all the buzz he's been getting it would be crazy if he didn't make it

Famous Dex - https://twitter.com/FamousDex/status/856956703694360577 Simple enough. This also tells us that the rappers arrived at NYC 4 or so days ago, which is consistent with the other tweets

Playboi Carti - https://twitter.com/MetroBoomin/status/856623983017558020 Metro Boomin tweeted this, saying he's in NYC with Carti.

Ugly God - https://twitter.com/UglyGod/status/856700360836173824 He replied to a tweet saying someone saw him in Soho (NYC), confirming it.

Amine - Also in Soho, here's an instagram confirming it https://www.instagram.com/p/BTU7O_WjzGC/?taken-by=heyamine&hl=en. And he tweeted the same thing Metro did (The Carti lyrics)

Potentially Made it

Ski Mask the Slump God - He's in Soho (NYC) https://twitter.com/THESLUMPGOD/status/857349159719927808 This means X is also in Soho too. However he tweeted he didn't make it https://twitter.com/THESLUMPGOD/status/856854425566138368 so we'll just say its possible.

Taylor Bennet - He IS in NYC, however he's on tour, so I'm not gonna say it's confirmed but definitely a possibility https://twitter.com/_TaylorBennett/status/857664744794337283

Rich Chigga - Tweeted he's coming to the US soon, however it is also for a tour https://twitter.com/richchigga/status/855981710059515904 it does have NYC dates though, but not until May. Still not gonna rule him out, it's possible

Young M.A. - This one is tricky, because she's from NYC, so she's there either way, but I think there could still be a chance

A Boogie - Like Young M.A. he lives in NYC, and his tweets dont tell us anything

NAV - No indication of where he is, but a popular pick

SmokePurpp - I just don't feel like looking through his twitter he retweets so much shit

Wifisfuneral - He's in NY. He tweeted this https://twitter.com/wifisfuneral/status/856967548805558273 HOWEVER, he tweeted this: https://twitter.com/wifisfuneral/status/856967548805558273 so I'm not gonna confirm. He could just be kidding around

Jazz Cartier - Also in NY, however touring as well https://www.instagram.com/p/BTW6GNYl0z_/?taken-by=jacuzzilafleur&hl=en

Didn't Make it

KYLE - He's on tour, in Austin TX today http://superduperkyle.com/

Maxo Kream - On tour, in Tuscan https://twitter.com/P0SITIVESATAN/status/857655563307675649

D.R.A.M. - He wasn't on the voting list, so I think they just didn't consider him a rapper which is shit but whatever. He's also in atlanta https://twitter.com/BIGBABYDRAM/status/857027027383312385

Pouya - On tour, in IN right now http://www.bandsintown.com/Pouya

Rob $tone - In san Diego https://twitter.com/youngrobstone/status/856311577812770817 Also that would be wiiiild if he was there with X and ski lmao

Lil Pump - Doing a show in FL, also come on did you really think he was gonna make it https://www.instagram.com/p/BTcAFpBF88J/?taken-by=lilpump&hl=en

6LACK - On tour, in Vancouver https://twitter.com/6LACK/status/856993263701475328

Lil Peep - On tour https://twitter.com/Lilpeep/status/856992075945877504 (lol)

Obviously that's not everyone, if you see a rapper is in NY just reply and I'll add em to the list

THIS IS NOT EVERYONE - These are just the people who are coincidentally in NYC together at the time of them filming the XXL Freshman cyphers/interviews/etc

*FRESH BEEF* NAV and Engineer Alex Tumay got BEEF with each OTHER

Posted: 28 Apr 2017 09:39 AM PDT

Alex Tumay was supposed to mix and master NAV's PERFECT TIMING. NAV supposedly did not like the mix seeing as he is an engineer himself so Alex Tumay tweeted this "https://twitter.com/alextumay/status/857427590512074753" Shortly after, Metro Boomin tweeted then deleted this https://www.instagram.com/p/BTZIFSBFEel/?taken-by=navrajbeats

THIS SOME FRESH BEEF - WHO IS THE BETTER AUDIO ENGINEER? NAV OR R/HIPHOPHEADS BELOVED ALEX TUMAY?

edit: Alex was actually very complimentary of NAV's upcoming album before NAV told him his mixes are SHIT LOL https://twitter.com/alextumay/status/855106885715980291
