This is the voting thread for the '90s G-Funk community playlist, comment below with a song that you'd like to see on the playlist. Please make sure the song you nominate hasn't been posted already, and report any duplicate posts so they can be removed. Duplicate posts will result in songs receiving fewer votes than they deserve.

You can post more than one song, but each song must be posted in a separate comment. Comments containing more than one song will be removed.

Rules:

  • One song per comment
  • Songs must fit the subgenre/theme and/or timeframe
  • Songs must be available on streaming services

This will be a 50 song playlist with a max. of 3 songs per artist unless the results of voting deem that adjustments should be made. Voting will go on for approximately 24 hours and the playlist & discussion thread will be posted in approx. 48 hours.

Gospel legend Kirk Franklin got with his band to deliver a remix to Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "All The Stars" from the Black Panther soundtrack.

"You know when I'm happy … when I'm said … the only way to express myself is through music," Franklin says in a video shared to Instagram on Sunday (August 30). "And we're all sad right now."

The chorus behind him begins singing, "It's getting harder for me to breathe right now cause all our stars are fallen, catch me 'cause I'm falling, God help me, I'm calling you." The song concludes with the group calling for unity.

"All The Stars" was part of the chart-topping Black Panther soundtrack and was nominated four Grammy Awards in 2019, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It was also nominated for Best Original Song at the 2019 Academy Awards.

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

On this day in 2005, Mr West releases his second studio album Late Registration on Def Jam.

With more in-depth, richly arranged production than his debut album The College Dropout - in part due to West's collaboration with producer Job Brion - the album reached #1 on the Billboard 200, thus beginning West's eight-albums-and-counting streak of consecutive #1 hits.

Featuring guest appearances from Brandy, The Game, Common, Adam Levine, Jay-Z, Nas and Jamie Foxx, the multi-platinum album spawned five singles: the Grammy-winning ''Diamonds from Sierra Leone,'' the chart-topping, platinum-selling ''Gold Digger,'' the gold-selling ''Heard 'Em Say,'' ''Touch the Sky,'' featuring the debut performance of Lupe Fiasco, and ''Drive Slow,'' featuring Paul Wall and GLC. With ''Gold Digger,'' West earned his first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent nine weeks.

For the critically acclaimed set, West earned eight Grammy nominations, including a nomination for album of the year and record of the year, and won three, best rap solo performance, best rap song, and best rap album.

A: Only albums that make the top 50 in sales+streaming for their debut week are counted

Q: Why do some albums show exact sales numbers while others do not?

A: The albums that do not show exact numbers are the ones that have had sales corrections from Billboard

Q: Aren't those numbers kind of low for Childish Gambino?

A: Childish Gambino's "3.15.20" officially released on a Sunday, a week after it was premiered on his website, this caused him to lose out on two days of sales as well as losing some interest due to the delayed release.
