If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: "I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye production" (you can get more specific but usually enough). And then someone will respond with recommendations X, Y, and Z.

You can also leave a top level comment recommending an artist/project/scene that you think others might like if they like X, Y, and Z.

Example: "You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats"

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

The more descriptive you guys are with your posts, the easier it is to help you find what you want. Just stating an artist's name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Jeff Weiss: RIP Black Rob, one of the great millennium-era crime rap novelists, gruff but with Harlem slickness, who endured fire & brimstone to briefly reach the apex, before gravity and the law took hold. Of course, "Whoa," which owned the world for a full year, the platonic tunnel banger.

Revolt TV: Black Rob passes away

Posted: 17 Apr 2021 01:52 PM PDT

https://www.revolt.tv/news/2021/4/17/22389557/black-rob-passes-away

After a rough week since the passing of famed rapper DMX, the hip hop community is now mourning the loss of another star. According to close friends, Black Rob has sadly passed away.

Last week, video surfaced of Rob in a hospital bed. That caught many fans off-guard considering that we hadn't heard from or seen him for quite sometime. While there, he shared his condolences to X. "I feel everything about X," he said in the clip that DJ Self previously posted. "X was positive. Love to X."

In the days that came afterward, Rob would reveal that he was also homeless and battling health issues including kidney failure, which DJ Self confirmed. "Oh man, I've been dealing with this for five years. Four strokes … I don't know what to tell you man. Shit is crazy. The shit is hard," he admitted. "I don't got no house to live in — except maybe an apartment. Me and my man be trying to get together. I'm telling you man, this shit is strange. It's hard, you know what I'm saying?"

Diddy reached out to help Rob anyway he could — and did just that — which another former Bad Boy rapper Mark Curry admitted on social media. "And you are reaching out, and you're trying to help," Curry said about Puff's assistance. "We not going to say he's not — Puffy is really trying to help." As a former recording artist on Bad Boy Records, Puff wanted to make sure that Rob was taken care of in the best way possible.

According to HealthLine.com, kidney failure occurs when your kidneys loss the ability to effectively filter waste out of a person's blood, which then causes the person to have excess toxics backed up in their body that can negatively affect their health and ultimately be life-threatening.

The early stages of kidney disease often have little to no symptoms for the person who has it, which is why it's called the "silent disease," and many realize they have it when it's too late and their kidneys have been damaged to the most severe point.

Rest in peace, Black Rob.

[DISCUSSION] Conway The Machine - La Maquina

Posted: 17 Apr 2021 06:11 AM PDT

It's been more than 24 hours since one of the Griselda's finest dropped his latest joint. Personally, it's a very accessible album and it can be a great introduction to anybody who wants to get into Conway's work.

What's your thoughts on it? how does it stand in Machine's catalogue?

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] AJ Tracey - Flu Game

Posted: 17 Apr 2021 09:57 AM PDT

Flu Game is the second studio album by British rapper AJ Tracey. It was released through Revenge Records on 16 April 2021. The album features guest appearances from Nav, Digga D, T-Pain, Kehlani, SahBabii, Millie Go Lightly, MoStack, and Mabel. The production is handled by AJ Tracey himself and executive producer Nyge, alongside The Elements, 5ive Beatz, AOD, Fred Again, Take a Daytrip, Pxcoyo, Yung Swisher, Kazza, Swidom, Yoz Beatz, Ryfy, Mark Raggio, Venna, and JBJ.

Background

The title of the album refers to a 1997 NBA finals game in which American professional basketball player Michael Jordan from the Chicago Bulls got food poisoning, but his team still won against the Utah Jazz. In an interview with NME, AJ Tracey explained what the album is focused on:

I feel like that's what [Michael Jordan] was all about. Even with him being ill with food poisoning, he can barely move, but he's dropping points that the other team wishes they could drop. [The album] is about when we go through hard times, but you have to always make sure you put your best foot forward and be great to try to break boundaries. That's what I'm about to release.

Tracey also praised Canadian rapper Nav, who is featured on the second track of the album, "Kukoč", admitting that he has been a longtime fan of his music and described him as "dope", further explaining that "the fact that he's of [South] Asian descent... he's carved out that path and no one before him has really set the precedent for someone from his background". He also thought that he can get a little more "vulnerable" on the album and said that listeners would receive "more of an in-depth insight" of his life. Tracey started recording the album near the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, while having to deal with struggles with his family as his mother became ill, followed by his father becoming ill.

Baby on Baby on Baby on Baby on Baby on Baby

"Special ed yea I'm a re re"

WOW

My mother taught me how to use a rubber (Okay)

Oh no bby

who is singing on SAD SHIT?

that's dababy LOL i thought the same thing

He said "already hit 25m streams in 30 minutes" but he doesn't realize one of the songs already had 23m

Almost thought Blame It on Baby was gonna be his best song, then the beat switched

Rockstar gonna be a hit

Shit i thought roddy was young thug for the first 20 secs of his verse

Top Comments in Fantano

I'm not saying this thing was a masterpiece but I'm surprised by the parts he doesn't like. I guess DaBaby's attempts at style switch ups aren't for everyone, but there are a number of them that I found genuinely interesting that Fantano outright hated. I'll admit I'm a fan of his, but I thought Find My Way, Amazing Grace, and Blame it on Baby were fun departures from what I normally expect of him. I really enoyed those tracks personally, as well as a number of others. What I'm most surprised by though is how much he hated Rockstar. I'm not saying it's the most musically outstanding track ever but damn I love it. Listening to it feels like racing down an empty highway at night. I guess I'm rambling because I liked it and he didn't but to me it's still a fun album and DaBaby's attempts at diversification succeed more than they fail. I'd give it like a 5 or 6 personally, but what do I know.

I'm kinda worried that Kirk is gonna remain the quintessential DaBaby project (for me) and it's just gonna be downhill from here. That album was super enjoyable and better than Baby on Baby IMO, but I don't really have a strong desire to keep up with his music if he's just gonna keep churning out lazier versions of shit he's already done until people eventually get tired. The autotune shit also doesn't suit him at all.

It was way too soon for another DaBaby project.

4/10 was generous. All of the creative fun energy from Baby on Baby is gone. DaBaby's flow that everyone loved because it was different from everyone else has been watered down to nothing at this point because he uses it on every song and everything "new" he tried fell flat. Easy 2/10 from me and I used to really like DaBaby

Fantano is spot on. Dababy is getting shit on (rightly so) when he's doing the same thing all the time, but this attempt to diversify his sound got pretty ugly. Maybe he should just stick to his guns? I don't know but I'm certainly not looking forward to him singing anytime soon. I'd much rather see him switching the production up, jumping on some harder and more complex beats. Because the production on Blame It On Baby is so unremarkable, it's barely even there and there's nothing that stands out. What's stopping him from working with actually great producers?

Top Comments in Deluxe

Lmao even Dababy saying "my favorite song on here is probably Peep Hole"

This is like a concept album but the concept is that it's a deluxe album.

Which songs are new?

First 10

i'm not gonna lie, the pressure of switching his style def brought about some hit songs (ie rockstar) but songs like "Go First" are the main reason i started liking DaBaby. yeah you can argue about lyrical content but the energy these type of tracks bring is priceless. pony is still to this day my fav DaBaby song.

Something feels weird about him starting the deluxe by saying peep hole is his favorite track

I know it dropped yesterday but Peep Hole is his best song in a minute imo. Major vibes

DVSN Sept 5th is so damn great and it's so damn replayable, hope I can say the same about this one. Morning after is cool also but just not that level to me.

well done so far. party and popcorn were cooking it, they really brought it.

monica please unblock me i miss you so much

Can't lie when I heard them singing about buying shoes with a 5 day delivery time it had me relating but also questioning why the fuck am I listening to this

The weeknd partynextdoor and now dvsn? At this point they are the ones texting my ex

Top Comments in First Impressions

This project is great back to front, they experiment with new sounds but don't sacrifice the aesthetic they've had since SEPT 5TH. Keep it Going and Flawless back to back might be my favourite section of the album, while their singles they've previously released are easily some of the highlights of the project.

That being said, I don't think this album has that hit song that requires mandatory listening and can elevate them. SEPT 5TH had Hallucinations, Morning After had Think About Me, while this project has a lot of REALLY GOOD songs, the album just doesn't have its hit song.

LOVED (in order of appearance): Miss Me?, No Cryin, Keep it Going, Flawless, A Muse

dvsn stay being slept on. Consistently some of the best RnB out there. This album is formulaic like all their albums, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Its easy to like, but this album isn't going to be anyone's AOTY.

An ovo project I can play front to back... they worked hard for this.

I get the impression that they are experimenting with a new sound. I enjoyed some songs but I think it has to grow on me some more. I'm used to having my mind blown and being addicted to their music. I just feel like something is missing but I can't quite put my finger on it. Nevertheless they are still my fav artists out right now and the only group I would pay to see in concert . Much love and creativity!

The transition from keep it going to flawless was really good. this was the first dvsn album i've heard and i really liked it. maybe a 7-7.5/10
