Music Style: Lush Neo Soul taking influence from Psychedelic Soul, Jazz, Dream Pop, and Indie Pop

Raveena Aurora is an artist that has a knack for creating soothing music that will fit perfectly on any vibes playlist. Her brand of Neo Soul is perfect for anyone who likes the smooth Sophisti-Pop sound of Sade, the lo-fi soulful folk music of Yves Jarvis, the Psychedelic Reverbed Soul of Nick Hakim, the Coffee Shop Bedroom R&B of Mac Ayers, or the quirky nocturnal sound of Ravyn Lenae. What Raveena brings is a lush and dreamy type of Neo Soul that will put any listeners ears at ease.

While Raveena's mostly consists of a lush dreamlike sound with faint instrumentation and fluffy vocals. Her music also uses elements such as Y2K Pop-R&B and Folk as seen in Tweety and Starflower respectively. In her sound, Raveena also makes use of harps (Honey, I Won't Mind, Sweet Time), woodwind instruments (Johnny It's The Last Time, Hypnosis, Temptation, Floating), and Chimes (You Give Me That, No Better, Wherever U Go, Mama). Sometimes, she would even utilize sound shifts like in Headaches and Floating. In Headaches, the sound goes from a ethereal psychedelic sound to a guitar driven dream pop tune. In Floating, the sounds goes from a organic tune with soft pianos and guitars, to an incorporation of bongos with chanting.

When talking about Raveena, an important thing to highlight is her songwriting. Raveena lyricism is spectacular and places her ahead of many of her contemporaries. Raveena writing deals with the topics of femininity, sexuality, family, and relationships. Raveena can even use her lyrics to perfectly capture the mood of a song like in Starflower. In her song Mama, Raveena ponders on what her mother's past was like before she immigrated from India to Queens. Raveena's writing even touches on darker subject matter which is a contrast to her lush dreamy sound. In Petal, Raveena speaks about coming to terms with death. Her song Bloom is about an abusive relationship and moving past it. In her darkest songs lyric wise, both Stronger and Salt Water are about sexual assault and the kind of trauma that comes from it and how it affects her to this day. The dark subject matter in both Stronger and Salt Water really contrast the mellow, soothing, and lush sound sound of the production. It really shows that Raveena is willing in bear her emotional scars for all to see which is very difficult. Raveena also discusses her sexuality in both Headaches and Temptation, which is really good because it gives more representation to LGBTQ BIPOC. One thing that I've noticed is that LGBTQ BIPOC often get the short end of the stick when it comes to LGBTQ rights and proper representation. An artist like Raveena is important because it gives more visibility to LGBTQ acts of color and therefore humanizes them so that people who have never met a LGBTQ BIPOC irl will see them as human instead of reacting with hatred and vitriol.
