Rules

Artists qualify if they're never gotten 50 or more upvotes on /r/HipHopHeads (counting features)

Formatting:

>Artist - Title

>Description: no character minimum but some things that might be good to include: where the rapper is from, what subgenres they might fall into, have cosigns they might have, what their influences are, who they sound like.

Example:

>Aaron May - Let Go

>18 year old Houston Rapper, biggest influences are J Cole and Nas.

Heavily recommended: If you post a song, listen to another song and comment on it. Otherwise this thing doesn't really work that well.

Pitchfork is pleased to announce Driven by Sound, a new two-part documentary series featuring Madlib and KAYTRANADA, created in partnership with Lexus IS Wax. The series will feature the two producers in conversation about their individual connections to vinyl as a physical medium, and how it impacts their music. It also includes a behind the scenes look at the creation of the Lexus IS Wax Edition: a custom car with a functional in-car turntable. Watch the first part of the series below; part two arrives March 15.

[DISCUSSION] In 2018, Hip Hop officially became the most popular genre according to Nielsen. In the years since, how has this changed the genre? How has hip hop influenced other genres (pop for example) and popular culture overall?

Here's the story from 2018

For the first time ever, hip-hop surpassed rock as the most popular genre in the US in 2017, according to Nielsen's year-end report on the music industry.

Nielsen said the hip-hop/R&B genre ended as the largest genre of the year in terms of "total consumption," which includes album sales and album-equivalent streaming figures.

Seven of the top ten most-consumed albums of the year came from the hip-hop/R&B genre, with Kendrick Lamar's "DAMN." taking the second spot behind Ed Sheeran's "Divide."

Nielsen noted that the growth in popularity of the hip-hop/R&B genre was "powered by a 72% increase in on-demand audio streaming" in the genre.
