If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] KYLE - See You When I am Famous!!!!!

Posted: 18 Jul 2020 07:24 AM PDT

Complex:

Kyle has finally released his sophomore album See You When I am Famous!!!!!!!!!!!! featuring Rico Nasty, Trippie Redd, Bryson Tiller, and several others. This is the west coast rapper's first full-length offering since dropping his debut project Light of Mine in 2018, and a series of EP's in between.

This sophomore album demonstrates Kyle doing what he does best, being himself. Fitting that theme, the cover art is also his senior photo from high school, as he's now living the dream he prophesied for himself all those years ago. Kyle joined Zane Lowe on Apple Music leading up the album's release to talk about the inspiration behind its name and what this project means to him.

"It is crazy. This is everything I felt when I was 17. So my album is called See You When I am Famous!!!!!!!!!!!!, and the reason it's called See You When I am Famous!!!!!!!!!!!! is because that was my for real senior quote," Kyle recounts. "You know what I mean? I was a nerdy 17 year old kid who had no idea how he was going to pop off but I knew I was going to pop. And the soundtrack to that kid walking through those halls in high school … is this."

Kyle goes on to talk about why he wanted "Money Now" featuring Tyga and Johnny Yukon to be the lead single for the album.

"And the lead song, the opening credits …… of the movie of me becoming to an eventual superstar, bruh, is 'Money Now.' Technically speaking you have to scream it. You're not even allowed to just say. You have to be like, 'See You When I am Famous!!!!!!!!!!!!!' You know what I'm saying? You have to really yell. The artwork is just my senior portrait. I'm trying to show kids for real, you can have blind idiot confidence in yourself and this sh-t will still work out. You know what I mean?"

Ahead of his project dropping, Kyle also shared a heartfelt message on Instagram about the journey to get to this point.

[DISCUSSION] Canibus - 2000 B.C. (Before Can-I-Bus) (20 Years Later)

Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:14 AM PDT

On July 18, 2000, Canibus would drop his sophomore album, 2000 B.C. (Before Can-I-Bus), on Universal Records. Due to the mixed reception of the previous album, Can-I-Bus, Canibus would officially sever ties with his manager, Wyclef Jean, holding him responsible for it's left-field production choices and poor marketing. On this album, Canibus is as lyrically venomous as ever as he proceeds to shred the mic on every track with ferocious tenacity and blistering wit. If you love creative punchlines, sharp wordplay, and non-stop hardcore battle raps, then this is the album for you. Features on the album include Journalist, Rakim, Pharoahe Monch, Kurupt, Killah Priest, and Ras Kass. Production on the album is done by Pillo Jamel, Ty Fyffe, The Beatnuts, Chaos, DJ Clue, Danny P, Irv Gotti, and Mike Harper. Four singles were spawned from this album, but only one of them got a music video made for it. The track, Mic-Nificent, would peak at #23 on the Hottest Rap Singles and the album, itself, would also peak at #23 on the Billboard Top 200 and #6 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. However, despite the album being considered an improvement from the last one, its underwhelming sales would eventually lead to Canibus leaving the label.

Fun Facts:

  • Eminem was planned to be featured on the track, Phuk U. However, he ultimately declined because he wasn't feeling the concept.

  • This album marks the first major appearance of Canibus' supergroup, The HRSMN.

  • Rumor has it that the track, 100 Bars, was recorded in one take.

Best Tracks: The C-Quel, 2000 B.C., Life Liquid, I'll Buss 'Em You Punish 'Em, Mic-Nificent, Lost @ 'C', 100 Bars, Chaos

  • What are your favorite tracks on the album?

  • Do you think this album has aged well?

  • Where would you rank this album in Canibus' discography?

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Unknown T - Rise Above Hate

Posted: 18 Jul 2020 11:32 AM PDT

Daily Discussion Thread

HNHH:

Despite everything that's gone on in the world, 2020 has surely worked in Unknown T's favor. The rapper beat an attempted murder charge earlier this year, prior to the global pandemic, and now, he's returned with his formal debut, Rise Above Hate. Unknown T has dished out a few massive singles in anticipation of the project such as "Main Squeeze" and "Deh Deh." Rise Above Hate includes sixteen tracks in total with appearances from some of the biggest artists in the UK right now such as M Huncho, AJ Tracey, and D Block Europe's Young Adz. Young T & Bugsey, KO and V9 also make appearances on the tracklist.
