Poookieboo

ShittyBoyz

Game Breaker

18Veno

Producer20's have a Nintendo music type vibe to them. I posted "Fuck Rap" and described the beat as "sound[ing] like it samples Yoshi background music." Alphonse is right too he's got a Tay-K esque flow

Fuck Rap:

In another lifetime, Neeko Baby would probably be making the theme songs for early morning children's television shows. Instead, his bright and enchanting production is being used by South Carolina's 18Veno to angstily rap about his favorite pair of G-Star jeans and evading the police. Following in the footsteps of last month's "1942," the pair's latest, "Fuck Rap," proves yet again how well the duo complement each other. There have been rappers who sound like 18Veno before, but he sounds essential when he rides over the sunny production of Neeko Baby; it's music that everyone needs to hear.

1942:

It won't be a surprise if rap's next superproducer comes from the Carolinas. Like Atlanta, they have become breeding grounds for hitmaking beatmakers; both Pi'erre Bourne and Jetsonmade emerged from them. Next in line are Charlotte's Producer20 and South Carolina's Neeko Baby, the latter is behind the boards on 18Veno's "1942." 18Veno, a 19-year-old Carolina rapper, is breaking through in his own right, and he raps with the type of youthful aggression that brings to mind someone like Tay-K—though 18Veno is far more refined. Yet, on "1942," it's hard to think about anything else other than Neeko Baby's production. He seamlessly blends a clean guitar, a twinkling melody, and pounding percussion popularized by Jetson. Any Atlanta rapper not in Neeko's IG DMs better get there.

Since99

White dmv rapper. His song immaculate went viral on twitter because of memes about how he sounds like an accountant rapping/ people saying he raps in times new Roman. Bro sounds goofy but his punchlines are hard; reminiscent of Xanman and mixtape weezy. Some fave punches:

"Grind for that sack like jadeveon clowney"

"I lean off the drank like the tower of pisa/ I need the numbers on the back of your visa/ ballin hard like I'm Trevor ariza/ makin a play in the back of a Kia"

"I feel like Ben Carson the way I'm gifted with hands/ I'm in the kitchen mixing with pots and the pans"

"I'm just tryin to go and cop an estate/ took my chopper out the closet, I hope that he straight"

immaculate

no go

all time low

WemmyMo

Yo Mama Bad Bad

Moppas & Choppas (feat. D2X)

Uptown Chicago rapper with acrobatic flows and a sense of humor

RIYL: Guapdad 4000, Amine, Buddy, Denzel Curry

Drownmili

War Outside

Underground artist from Long Island but based in Los Angeles. He's worked with Zillakami, Nascar Aloe, Ghoulavelli and a lot of the artists in that scene. War Outside^ went viral during the George Floyd protests and Mili is gearing up to drop a punk album with this track being the first single. Definitely check his music out if you're into underground/alt punk hip hop.

Heavily recommended: If you post a song, listen to another song and comment on it. Otherwise it doesn't rly work that well.

[DISCUSSION] Big K.R.I.T. - KRIT Wuz Here (10 Years Later)

Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:56 AM PDT

David Drake in P4k

Big K.R.I.T.'s zero-to-60 career trajectory has taken the rapper mere months-- he was unknown for much of 2009-- to become one of the more buzzed-about blog-rap phenomenons. Compare his sudden rise with that of his obvious influences, like Pimp C, whose impact was still just being recognized upon his death, or T.I., who toiled in the Atlanta underground after a major-label false start before beginning his ascendancy. K.R.I.T. is a talented artist, a rapper with dimension and ambition who has learned much at the feet of the masters. His new record, K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, is a strong release from a kid who has a lot of ideas and approaches, although he hasn't quite established himself as a distinctive star, and often falls back on a collection of well-crafted southern rap clichés. The fact that we're even talking about him today is because he stands on the shoulders of some rappers who didn't have such an easy path to critical acceptance.

It helps that K.R.I.T. seems uninterested in following the paths of major-label creative casualty B.o.B., who seemed to outgrow rap before he could even grow into it. Instead, the rapper joins a first wave of new artists (G-Side, Yelawolf, Pill) working a vein of Southern rap traditionalism, embracing the production aesthetics of UGK and Organized Noize. K.R.I.T.'s ear is his biggest strength; as a producer, tracks like "Return of Forever" and "Country Shit" find him revitalizing the staid indie rap template with the 808s and swagger of Southern rap.

As a rapper, K.R.I.T. still seems to be working his persona out, as if his talents have leapt ahead of his sense of self. Just as he deftly emulates great producers, his rap influences are the best of the best; choosing Pimp C as a stylistic forefather suggests he identifies with strong personalities, even if he's working his way through them to find his own. And T.I.'s topical breadth and lyrical flexibility serve a strong example for an artist uninterested in painting himself into a corner. Goodie Mob certainly laid a blueprint for his more socio-political verses. It's also smart of him to work with rappers like Curren$y-- the most charismatic nu-South backpack rapper. If K.R.I.T. follows this path, he could end up with a truly great career.

And while this tape is strong, it's as much about potential as it is an achievement in itself; as great as it sounds hearing K.R.I.T.'s scrappy rap style ride "Country Shit"'s energetic beat, the track is almost undercut by its topical genericism. Tracks like "Just Touched Down" and "See Me on Top" feel like steps further back; standard soul loops, archetypal exercises flawlessly executed but ultimately quite empty. The flip is tracks like "They Got Us", "Children of the World", or "Small as a Giant," where K.R.I.T.'s reflective, conscious approach shows signs of personal honesty, political frustration, and hints at the person hidden behind the music.

[DISCUSSION] Nipsey Hussle - Mailbox Monday (5 Years Later)

Posted: 14 Jul 2020 09:43 AM PDT

Mailbox Money is the ninth mixtape by American rapper Nipsey Hussle. The mixtape was released as a free digital download on December 31, 2014, on mixtape hosting websites. It was also released in a limited first edition of 100 copies for $1,000 each including other incentives via his All Money In record label, which followed-up Crenshaw, that was sold under the same schema but rather 1,000 copies for $100. The mixtape features production by DJ Mustard, Rance, Hit-Boy, DJ Khalil, Ralo Stylez and Wizzo, among others. Guest appearances on the mixtape came from Rick Ross, Dom Kennedy, K Camp, Trae Tha Truth, Buddy and many others. The mixtape was supported by the singles "A Hunnit A Show" featuring Rick Ross, "Between Us" featuring K Camp, "Where Yo Money At", "Count Up That Loot", and "50 Niggaz".

Background

After releasing Crenshaw, October 2013, Nipsey quickly diverted the critical acclaim and success towards his Crenshaw Tour. Where he went on a 31-city trek, which started on January 9, 2014, and ended on February 13, 2014. While on his tour, Nipsey Hussle also released a plethora of songs which were considered freebies that were eventually added onto the 'Mailbox Money' project, such as "Count Up That Loot", "Between Us", "Be Here For A While", and "Where Yo Money At".

Upon the end of his tour, Nipsey created the idea to "Mailbox Money", after reading an article from the EzineArticles, to which describes the details of passive income and equity. From there, he emulated the same idea for his follow-up project, and announced that it would be released some time in December.

On December 29, 2014, he revealed the track list for Mailbox Money, which contained guest appearances from Rick Ross, Dom Kennedy, Trae Tha Truth, Buddy, J. Stone, K Camp, GI Joe, Pacman, Conrad, and Vernardo. Production was handled by, DJ Mustard, Rance, Hit-Boy, DJ Khalil, Ralo Stylez and Wizzo, among others.

Release and promotion

On December 3, 2014, Hussle announced his 2015 European tour via iHussle.com to which after the release of the 'Mailbox Money' project, he would be travel around 11 countries, such as France, England, Germany, and many other countries around Europe, from January 14, 2015 to February 1, 2015.

Sales

According to Nipsey Hussle, he has sold 60 copies of the limited retail version of the album (which cost $1,000) as of 1/24/2015.

Singles

On December 4, 2014, Nipsey released his official debut single, "50 Niggaz", for the forthcoming project, 'Mailbox Money', and explain the motive and direction of the track and project in its entirety by saying,

It's crazy because that record is a year and a half old. I was going to hold it but felt like it made sense with everything that's going on. We've seen this before, especially in L.A., where we felt like we didn't get any justice. I was a little kid during the Rodney King riots. I remember it. There were tanks on Crenshaw and Slauson. The grocery store my grandparents shopped at was burned down. It seemed familiar, and I have a voice now. I didn't want to take to Twitter and all that. I did feel a way about it and wanted to say something.

The following week, he also released the second single, entitled "A Hunnit A Show", alongside Rick Ross, which was produced by Hit-Boy.
