[DISCUSSION] The Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D. (10 Years Later)

Posted: 03 Jun 2019 05:11 PM PDT

Let me just start this thread by saying, no matter how corny the lyrics, every single instrumental off this album firmly holds a place in my heart. I've spent countless hours playing Trackmania and CrossFire while grooving to this album.

So many people say The Black Eyed Peas' older albums are better, but The E.N.D. and The Beginning are my favourite BEP projects, by far.

I urge you guys to listen to this album again and focus on the instrumentals, they're a joy.

The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies) is the fifth studio album by American group The Black Eyed Peas. It was released on June 3, 2009. Critics described the album as containing more anthemic and inspirational songs in the group's bid to appeal to a new generation of music listeners.

Three promotional singles, "Imma Be", "Alive" and "Meet Me Halfway", were released through the iTunes Store in the three weeks running up to the album's release.

The album gave the group their first, second, and third US number one hits with "Boom Boom Pow", "I Gotta Feeling", and "Imma Be" which topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12, 14, and 2 weeks respectively. "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" led the Hot 100 back to back, putting the band at number 1 on the chart for a record breaking 26 consecutive weeks (half a year). The third single, "Meet Me Halfway", along with the first two, topped several charts around the world including the United Kingdom and Australia.

As of June 2011, the album has sold over 11 million copies worldwide, making it one of the biggest commercial successes for the music industry in recent years.

The E.N.D. was nominated for six Grammy Awards in 2010, including Album of the Year, and Record of the Year for "I Gotta Feeling", and won the award for Best Pop Vocal Album. To promote the album, the band embarked on The E.N.D. World Tour between September 2009 and November 2010.

Genre: pop, hip-hop, electronic, dance

Producers: apl.de.ap, Jean Baptiste, Printz Board, DJ Replay, Funkagenda, David Guetta, Keith Harris, Mark Knight, Poet Name Life, Frederic Riesterer, will.i.am

Tracklist: Boom Boom Pow, Rock That Body, Meet Me Halfway, Imma Be, I Gotta Feeling, Alive, Missing You, Ring-A-Ling, Party All The Time, Out Of My Head, Electric City, Showdown, Now Generation, One Tribe, Rockin To The Beat

[DISCUSSION] Best horns in hip-hop history?

Posted: 03 Jun 2019 07:55 PM PDT

I was talking over with my friends about what are the best horns they've heard and so I figured I'd ask the same question to you all.

Some of the first ones that came up were T.R.O.Y. , SpottieOttieDopaliscious and Ab-soul's Interlude

In your opinion, what are the best horns in hip hop history?

Found an interview with Schoolboy Q from five years ago in High Times

Posted: 03 Jun 2019 06:29 PM PDT

My buddy lent me an old stack of High Times to sift through and I've been taking pics of all kinds of things. The old ads are my favorite in particular - there's a lot of stuff you're not allowed to sell anymore, it's crazy to see that stuff in print media. The September 2014 issue (with a cover with gems like "The Truth about Molly") had this interview with Schoolboy Q, about 7 months after Oxymoron came out. This line really hit me: "I was like, 'Yo, I have nothing going for myself. It's really over for me.' So I really tried rap, and now you're interviewing me and I'm number one."

Q's an inspiration man. He went from surfing homies' couches to living the dream. I know his recent album is a questionable topic for discussion around here but I still feel like he's the guy who thinks he's number one, and I gotta give him credit for that grab-life-by-the-balls attitude.
