If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: "I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye production" (you can get more specific but usually enough). And then someone will respond with recommendations X, Y, and Z.

You can also leave a top level comment recommending an artist/project/scene that you think others might like if they like X, Y, and Z.

Example: "You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats"

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

The more descriptive you guys are with your posts, the easier it is to help you find what you want. Just stating an artist's name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

No confirmation from PC Music yet, but some her personal friends have paid their respects on social media. *Edit: Confirmed by Mixmag.

Rest in peace to one of the most talented and innovative producers of the past decade. HUGE influence on modern pop music and will likely continue to play a huge role in how pop music will evolve in the future.

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Your Old Droog & Tha God Fahim - Tha Wolf On Wall St

Posted: 30 Jan 2021 11:38 AM PST

RYM Review:

Fahim laces some of Droog's more thoughtful raps (thoughtful in a different way than the cultural and identity explorations on Dump YOD) with some of his smoothest instrumentals yet. But "smooth" doesn't mean safe or soft, just means that Fahim's loops and drums (when they're present) are less assertive than YOD's usual. Doesn't mean they're less challenging though, as this gets pretty out there instrumentally on the last few tracks.

Of course the Mach tracks are the highlights- "The Poverty Bothers Me", which has the most straightforward (and conventionally prettiest) instrumental, is the easy highlight of the tape, Droog spitting probably his most sincere and overtly "conscious" (he would absolutely loathe that I describe it that way which is partially why I chose to, and partially once you've heard his verse you'll realize there's sadly no real other appropriate first adjective that comes to mind) verse yet while Mach matches him in emotional impact through his own typically abstract, esoteric, coded delivery.

It's a pretty serious album, less jokes than usual for Droog, although there's still a nice balance of battle boasts and bullshit to commentary and messaging. And most importantly, these two- Droog especially- are more than good enough rappers that their message raps never come across like tired sermonizing.

Of course Fahim's raps aren't nearly as good as his production, and of course he never has the better verse on a single track- but the quality gap between tha God and Droog is not nearly as dramatic as some would have you believe. Fahim has been putting out a steady stream of consistently quality albums in this lane for at least two years now, and if this isn't quite as good as the best of those or as essential as any of Droog's LPs (it feels closer to his slept on EP with Wiki, YOD sharing space with a kindred spirit and getting on their artistic wavelength) it's still a top tier rap release by any standard. No one aside from billy woods is writing at Droog's level right now, and if you can get past his occasionally disengaged delivery (which isn't a problem for me, since I always see it as part of his weary authorial tone or observational comic approach) this is yet another worthy entry in his practically flawless discography.

[DISCUSSION] Cunninlynguists - A Piece of Strange (15 years later)

How well do you think it held up against time?

Favorite songs? Favorite beats?

I think it's easily one of the greatest and most well crafted rap albums ever.
