Recommended If You Like Thread - August 03, 2019

Posted: 03 Aug 2019 11:04 AM PDT

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Look through past posts here

ALSO please check out this thread for a list of some of the most popular recommendation requests and the suggestions provided

In a new podcast Interview, J-Zone talks about Nas' poor beat selections. Says Nas is aware of the ghost of Illmatic and won't top it.

Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:04 PM PDT

Starts at the 47:50 mark:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEiUZJt8PmQ

"I've actually had sessions with Nas. That never came out to my knowledge. Someone with Nas' chace and his finances seem to be alright, I think these are just his artistic decisions. I haven't heard anyone say, "You know what? Maybe he likes that shit!". Because his dad was Olu Dara! He has jazz pedigree in his stuff. When you look at it that way, people think hes gone off the deep end, all the criticism I saw nobody said, 'maybe he's feeling it and maybe he wants to do that shit'. I sat with him in a session he talked about the ghost of Illmatic. It is hard to ignore and it's best you ignore it because you're not gonna top it. Nostalgia is a motherfcker, you're up against their memories, you cant beat that. Those are the best times of your life so the music is a soundtrack to that so even if you came back and made an album as good as that and now you have a fcked up job, child support due, cholesterol is high; you're washed up, you're not gonna have the memories so nostalgia the listeners want you to take them back to that time. Has Nas had questionable artistic decisions? Yeah. But also just me being an artist, I know if I was under the ghost of one particular record I would be looking for anything to find new. I'd be experimenting my ass off. That's just artist to artist. The worst nightmare is living in the past. It's the worst possible thing."

[DISCUSSION] Lou the Human - Painkiller Paradise (ONE DAY LATER)

Posted: 03 Aug 2019 07:06 PM PDT

I never saw a post for it.

Personally, this is one I'm going to need to sit on for awhile until I really know how I feel. Currently, I don't like it as much as Humaniac, but it's good, and as far as a debut album goes, it's pretty solid. I'm looking forward to seeing where he grows from here, he shows a lot of potential on this album.
