Example: >Aaron May - Let Go >18 year old Houston Rapper, biggest influences are J Cole and Nas. Heavily recommended: If you post a song, listen to another song and comment on it. | [DISCUSSION] How do you feel about and how would you describe TikTok's impact on hip hop? Posted: 20 Jul 2021 11:05 AM PDT TikTok has undeniably had a big impact on mainstream music – especially hip hop. It's blown up a lot of songs of a wide variety, such as: The way people talk about artists benefitting from TikTok on here often sounds really cynical. Like it's an artificial means of blowing up (often through a dance or a challenge) and not truly an expression of popular will. I'm sure that's true to an extent with dances being created particularly for the platform and pay-for-play with large influencer accounts. TikTok seems another an extension of the Vine era or even the ringtone era. Catchy one liners can "make" a song on the platform. Songs can become popular through remixes, such as SAINt JHN's "Roses" or BADBADNOTGOOD's "Time Moves Slow" TikTok also acts as a way for people to express themselves through music through skits, dance, etc. Those are just some thoughts, as someone who's seen the discourse around the platform but doesn't really use it (and mostly absorbs stuff from it through Twitter). What do you think? edit: another thought. there's also the prospect of a song blowing up without people really caring about who the artist is or bothering to check them out at all.
