Overposted List Update 2021 - Voting Thead

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 07:50 AM PDT

Been nearly 2 years since the last update to the Overposted List (fka the Favorites List). Let's vote on what albums we want to add to the list and what albums we want to remove.

The thread will be in contest mode (random order), so please search the thread (ctrl+f or search in your app) to see if someone already commented your album before you leave a comment. Don't name more than 1 album in your comment. Ex. "Add: Nav - Nav" or "Remove: Lil B - 05 Fuck Em". Upvote any comments/changes you agree with and avoid downvoting stuff.

What is the Overposted List?: The Overposted List is a list of albums whose songs are banned from being posted to the sub.

What is the purpose of the Overposted List?: The list is meant to contain the over-discussed / circlejerked albums that everyone on HHH already knows, or albums from which songs are constantly posted. There is little value in having a song from MBTDF posted to the sub every month—everyone already knows the album and it takes away space on the front page that could be used to shine light on less jerked-to-death songs.

Can we remove albums too?: Yes. As the tastes of the sub change, or as albums become older, the presence of some albums on the list might not be warranted anymore. This is why we also want to remove some albums each time we vote.

A Guide to the Modern Australian Hip-Hop Scene

Posted: 26 Jul 2021 08:05 AM PDT

Hello, I have been stuck in Lockdown & have been quite bored. I remember that Guide posts to Foreign Hip-Hop Scenes have done well here before & I don't believe anyone has made one on Australia before so Alas. You may note that I put 'Modern' in the Title as Australian Rap ever since the 2000's has gotten a Bad Reputation & was pre much White Washed with Bogans & it just wasn't good. However over the past few years that motif has started to change & we've seen more Modern New Rappers from a Range of different Cultural Backgrounds begin to Takeover. Australia in my biased eyes has always been a very Multicultural Country especially in the Area where I'm from Western Sydney & it's been great to see more than just White Rappers representing Australia, with the Emergence of African-Australian Artists, Polynesian-Australian Artists, Aboriginal Artists & Mediterranean Artists & Also some White Rappers who actually make good music. I've decided to not include Artists who have already made a name for themselves in the States such as The Kid LAROI, Iggy Azalea & Masked Wolf. Anyways here's some of the best up & coming Artists from Australia;

African-Australian Artists:

Look even as a White guy I can easily admit when it comes to making Hip-Hop/R&B/Soul. Black people will always be the Best at it & that is no different here in AUS. And these 6 Artists I'm about to name IMO are the best we have to offer. None of them had a breakthrough & ever became super popular Artists here they all have just been bubbling away for the 5 past years building hardcore fan bases.

Genesis Owusu:
(Born in Ghana. From Canberra, ACT)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Genesis Owusu may already be a name you're familiar with if you're an avid viewer of Anthony Fantano. He Blends Neo-Soul & Experimental Hip-Hop very well creating luscious sounding Choruses mixed with Off The Wall Production & IMO his Debut Album "Smiling with No Teeth" is currently my AOTY & the best Hip-Hop Album to come out of Australia. If you're a fan of Childish Gambino, Death Grips & Prince all meshed into 1 Artist, you'll love Genesis Owusu.

Tkay Maidza:
(Born in Zimbabwe. From Adelaide, SA)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Another name you'll be Familiar with you watch Fantano. Tkay Maidza has made a name for herself with her excellent EP Trilogy "Last Year Was Weird". Getting Artists such as JPEGMAFIA, Duckwrth, Yung Baby Tate to Feature throughout. She has the capabilities to make Trap Bangers & also Mesmerizing R&B. Some have called her the Missy Elliott of Australia.

REMI:
(From Melbourne, VIC)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

REMI are a Duo filled with Rapper Remi & Producer Sensible J & they make great Chill Rap. You could make a case for them being our version of Blu & Exile. However if I had to compare to an American Rapper, Remi kinda sounds like the late great Guru.

Sampa the Great:
(Born in Zambia. From Melbourne, VIC)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Sampa is probably the most well respected Lyricist here. She proudly displays her African Roots in her Music whether it's in her Vocal Inflections & Delivery or with her production/sample Choices. She is Similar to Little Simz & makes very pleasing to the ear music.

Manu Crooks:
(Born in Ghana. From Merrylands, Western Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Manu makes some great Pop Rap/Trap. With Moody Dark Beat Choices, It's hard to find a correlation with an American Artist. Drake & Ferg comparisons can be made but he is a very unique yet familiar sounding artist.

Kwame:
(Born in New Zealand to Ghana Parents. From Baulkham Hills, North-West Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Kwame is a versatile artist than can make Zaney Bangers & Soulful Anthems. He's clearly Influenced by Kanye but that's not a totally bad thing. Who doesn't want more music by Kanye.

Other Notable African-Australian Artists; B Wise, Arno Faraji, Citizen Kay, Lil Spacely, Jaecy, Carmouflage Rose, Krown

The 2019 Polynesian Wave:

In March 2019 the Australian Hip-Hop Scene saw a Resurgence when ONEFOUR got Nationwide Attention & Attention of the UK due to "Pioneering" a Drill Scene with their Breakout track "The Message". It noted a Tidal Change in What would be Popular Hip Hop here & it got a lot of people Interested & Enjoying our own Artists. It would then end up seeing a plethora of Polynesian Boys start to pop off. Some building on our Drill Scene, some branching into more EDM Club Bangers & some Latin Trap Bangers.

ONEFOUR:
(From Mt. Druitt, Western Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

ONEFOUR are a Drill Group of 5 but they blew up as 4. Unfortunately just as they were bout to takeover Drill internationally 2 of them got locked up which definitely stunted their Momentum. The 2 Free Members J Emz & Spenny have done well to keep ONEFOUR alive by collabing with Ferg, Headie One, Kid LAROI & Dutchaveli. But there's no denying fans are eagerly awaiting the 2 other members YP & Lekkz to be Free.

Hp Boyz:
(From Hampton Park, South-East Melbourne, VIC)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Hp Boyz are a Trio that definitely catapulted to success following in ONEFOUR's footsteps. Their Content Lyrically is still Drill but they choose more Latin Trap Instrumentals which are much more laid back & less threatening.

Hooligan Hefs:
(From Doonside, Western Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Hooligan Hefs stood out by Rapping over EDM Beats you'd hear inside a Club. It's understandable if this puts you off but he undoubtedly goes hard over them.

Youngn Lipz:
(From Cabramatta, South-West Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

You ever wanted to be a big fan of Chris Brown but didn't want to Support a Domestic Abuser. Well I have some news for you. Youngn Lipz has all the incredible singing talents Chris Brown has & best yet he doesn't almost beat his Girlfriend to Death. At least that we know of.

Lisi:
(From Goodna, South-West Brisbane, QLD)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Track

Lisi isn't really Drill he's actually more of a Good Role Model by Encouraging the Youth to Put down the Knives. His humbleness & raw beginnings make him easy to Back & throw Support behind.

Other Notable Polynesian-Australian Artists: No Money Enterprise, Day1, Sydney Yungins, BALLY BOY, Planet Vegeta, Hooks, Pistol Pete & Enzo

Aboriginal Artists:

Aboriginal Artist have always been around in Aus Hip-Hop but they've always been very sparse & remained Underground. I think it's Important for Aboriginal Artists to be heard here & I hope to see more breakout soon, but for now here's 4 who are beginning to make a name for themselves.

Baker Boy:
(From Arnhem Land, North-East of NT)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Baker Boy is borderline a Popstar with his super radio friendly Choruses however he does tend to Rap in his native language during his Verses. It's always really cool to hear him using the Didgeridoo as an Instrument during his Songs.

JK-47:
(From Tweed Heads, South of the QLD-NSW Border)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

JK-47 has the Ability to spazz out on tracks & also write Introspective tracks detailing the Struggle Indigenous people have faced in Australia for Decades now. His Album does both & is definitely one to watch.

Kobie Dee:
(From Maroubra, South-East Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Like JK-47, Kobie is also very Lyrical & he's very captivating to listen to. Am Definitely eagerly waiting for a Full Project from him.

Tasman Keith:
(From Bowraville, Mid-North Coast of NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Track

Tasman Keith is an Interesting Artist. He Raps with a Vocal Inflection very similar to Kendrick, but in no way am i saying he is as good as Kung Fu Kenny but he does stand out very clearly.

Other Notable Aboriginal Artist; Briggs, YNG Martyr, Chiggz, Nate G, Barkaa, Ziggy Ramo

White/Mediterranean Artists:

Believe it or Not, There are some White Artists that don't make Corny/Stereotypical Aussie Rap. Also a couple of Outliers I'd like to Mention.

Koi Child:
(From Fremantle, South-West Perth, WA)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Koi Child unfortunately were a 1 Album Wonder. They disbanded after they made it. However they still have a really good Jazz Rap album that will always be there. The album is Executive Produced by Tame Impala which probably is why it sounds as good as it does.

Triple One:
(From Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Triple One are very hard to describe. The 4 man group are filled with Lil Dijon who is the lead vocalist & gives them the Alt-Rock sound. The 2 rappers who give them menacing underground emo rap sound similar to Flatbush Zombies & $uicideBoy$. Their Producer also is really talented.

Sophiya:
(From Melbourne, VIC)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Sophiya is an Underground/Souncloud type artist. She has the bad bitch energy that other Female Rappers possess such as Saweetie & Cupcake.

Anfa Rose:
(From Western Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

This is Where I get to the the Mediterranean Outliers. Anfa Rose has proven to have a great Voice. With his Family from Morocco you can compare him to GASHI or OVO with the Alt R&B sound.

Brothers:
(From Macquarie Fields, South-West Sydney, NSW)

Most Streamed Track, Most Recent Release, Personal Favourite Song

Brothers are a duo who believe it or not are actually Brothers. Their Lebanese Heritage is very clear in their accents. They tend to follow Hooligan Hefs with rapping over EDM Beats. But also aren't afraid to get more Introspective.

Other Notable White Artists; Chillinit, Nerve, Huskii, Rops1, Esoterik, Wombat

If you want see my rankings & my scores out of 100, while I also go a little into more each for Project you can read this link here where I rank all of them; Ranking Aussie Rap
