If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

[DISCUSSION] Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 3 (One Year Later)

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 05:48 AM PST

One year ago today Benny dropped Tana Talk 3, sitting at 14 songs, and produced entirely by Alchemist and in-house producer Daringer. The album, which some claim is his best work to date, is still in heavy rotation for me. I don't think there are any skips on this album. How do ya'll feel about it one year later? What are your favorite tracks? What don't you like about the album? Do you think it's his best work?

[DISCUSSION] Redman - Dare Iz A Darkside (25 Years Later)

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 11:32 AM PST

It's been 25 years since Redman released this classic album.

Most artists have a hard time making a solid sophomore album, especially after your first one is a classic. Redman is able to meet the expectations he set on his first album Whut? Thee Album and creates another classic album.

The album starts off with his well known character Dr. Trevis, telling Redman to forget his last album and concentrate on this new album. This is what Redman provides the listener as this album has a sound very different from his first album, yet it is equally as good. It is this type of originality and consistency that has made Redman a favorite with hardcore hip-hop fans. Redman does not have any albums that have gone nuts on the pop charts selling millions of copies, but he has the industries respect like Rakim and KRS-One. Redman also takes even more control over this album than his last one as he produces 16 of the 20 tracks and there is no drop-off from less of Erick Sermon on this album. The songs on this album are so funk filled that Redman brings his new style called "Cosmic Slop". The beats are darker on this album and do not have as much of a bouncy P-Funk feel to them as his debut. Songs like "Green Island" and "Basically" show that Redman is still as crazy as ever. His originality is amazing as he creates albums that have a personality that cannot be duplicated. "Can't Wait" is a great song as he creates a song to get your head moving, but still keeps it hardcore. Again on this album is "Sooperman Luva II" the second installment in Redman's hilarious superhero character.

Redman again proves that he is one of the craziest lyricists as he can make hardcore songs and get you laughing with the ridiculous things that come out of his mouth. This album also really shows the growth of Redman as an artist as he create an album quite different from his first album and succeeds with flying colors. Redman has established himself as not only one of the best rappers of the 90's, but of all-time.

What are your thoughts on this album?

How does it hold up 25 years later?

How does it compare to his other albums?

Favorite tracks?

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] 03 Greedo & Kenny Beats - Netflix & Deal

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:35 AM PST

It's been out for a day, let's discuss.

  • Did the project meet your expectations, if you had any?
  • How does it rank up in both of their discographies?
  • Do you want Kenny to continue doing this kind of tapes with artists, where he's the sole producer? Or do you prefer him in measured quantities?
  • What's your favorite feature who's not called Freddie Gibbs?
  • Feel free to come up with your own questions and answer them.
