[DISCUSSION] Kanye West - The College Dropout (15 Years Later)

Posted: 09 Feb 2019 06:59 AM PST

On February 10, 2004, Kanye West released his debut album, The College Dropout

How does it hold up? Does it sound dated at all, or just as fresh as ever?

Where do you think it stacks up against the rest of Kanye's discography?

Aside from Illmatic, do you think there are any other debut hip hop albums that even come close to CD?

Family Business or Through the Wire?

What do you think of this compilation album one year since its release?

Some points for discussion:

  • What are your favorite tracks?

  • Which artists do you think made the best contributions?

  • How well does it work as an accompaniment to the Black Panther movie? Does it do enough to reflect the themes of the movie?

  • Did this album help you discover any new artists? What did you make of their contributions to the album?

  • How would you compare this album to other movie soundtracks?
