[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Dave East - Paranoia: A True Story - HipHop

I want to give you a bit of a backstory and explain why everybody waited so much for this and why it exploded. If you don't want to read it, there is TL;DR in the end.

Oxxxymiron is a highly successful Russian rapper who is planning to perform at the biggest Russian arena Olympiyskiy this year. He is known for his incredible writing skills and flow. He is well respected because all he got now he truly got with his talent. Being underground rap artist, growing his fan base slowly but surely over the years. He is one of the most important people in russian battle rap scene as he participated in different rap battles long before they got really popular here. And he helped to found and grow a couple of russian battle projects popular today.

4 years ago new battle project called "Versus battle" was created. It was offline face-to-face battle between two opponents without music. Each opponent performs 3 rounds of prepared beforehand lyrics. This is by far the most popular battle project in Russia and draws attention of people not interested in hip-hop in any way just because it is this huge here.

Oxxxymiron participated in Versus battle 4 times before this one and all the times he won unanimously crushing his opponents (Krip-a-Krip aka Kripl - 3:0, Dunya, Johnyboy - 5:0, ST - 3:0). Oxxxymiron vs Johnyboy got 1 million views in 1 day and became the most watched battle in 1 day in the world (r/hhh post about this). His next battle versus ST broke the record for the most watched battle in the world ever in just 48 hours with 5 million views (now it has 19 mil) (HipHopDX article).

But all his opponents weren't really that strong battle rappers. Some of them were good in the past, some are just popular rappers outside of battle rap. Slava KPSS is a battle rapper in the first place and rap artist in the second. His mixtapes and tracks are not so popular (and mostly just bad in my opinion lol), but his battle performances are really strong and he usually wins. He got popular in battle rap after a couple of really dirty and funny battles full of dark humour. About a month after Oxxxy vs. ST there was a battle Slava KPSS vs. Ernesto Zatknites, where Slava KPSS said that Oxxxy just picks weak opponents and isn't really that good. After that Oxxxy challenged him to a battle on Twitter and he accepted. That was a year ago.

The actual battle between undefeated King Oxxxy and battle-star Joker Slava took place August, 6th and was released August, 14th. It was a huge success and the wait was worth it. It seems like everybody from children and stay-at-home moms to politicians and buisnessmen are talking about it. Even a couple of foreign sites released articles about it (The Times, HipHopDX).

The king is dead, long live the king!

Oxxxymiron deviated from opponent too much. He dedicated most of the second round to his criticism of the state of the battle rap in general and in the third round he was too abstract, not saying much about Slava in particular, so he finally lost. Slava was solid throughout the whole battle and it is a deserved win for sure.

Later this year Oxxxymiron is going to participate in another battle, this time with Dizaster! And this time it will probably be in English, so stay tuned! You can check Dizaster's twitter, seems like he is really excited about this.

TL;DR:

There was a battle in Russia between one of the most succesful mainstream rappers Oxxxymiron, who never lost a battle before, and underground battle rap star Slava KPSS. The whole Russian hip-hop scene waited for this battle for about a year. It happened 3 days ago and got 16 million views already, making it the most watched battle in the world.
