Getting real about Homophobia in Rap Posted: 03 Jun 2017 02:16 PM PDT Let me preface this by saying I'm not gay or black. Today Bill Maher received a shit ton of backlash for his use of the word nigga and one of the most outspoken against him is Chance with this tweet Now I believe Bill made a trash joke and deserves the backlash he is receiving because I don't believe the word nigga or nigger should be joked about especially when the joke is based around slavery. But to me I see such a double standard with Chance calling for the removal of his show when he himself has made homophobic remarks before even made somewhat of a joke on 'Favorite Song'. So here's my question, if he can make a joke about slapping gays why can't a white, hispanic, or even asian person say 'Nigger' in even a discussion about the word? Are we okay with Ricky saying it in this context obviously I could see people getting offended by Louis' comments. EDIT- Okay I really thought this would be downvoted to hell for trying to force some 'political correct agenda' when it's obviously not. I just want to know why we're okay with people being homophobic in 2017. I used chance as the main example because he is essentially raps 'good kid'. Someone pointed out Migos and yes I would agree their comments on Makkonen were uncalled for and I honestly think this has to do with how they were raised and their religious beliefs. I don't think that should be used as an excuse though because its still incredibly shitty. [link] [comments] |

I made a video if the worst "Teenage Emotions" Lyrics. Posted: 03 Jun 2017 05:48 PM PDT Well, there were a lot of bad lines in this one, so why not make a video of all of them? Some of these lyrics are funny, but some are plain stupid. He mentions a "buttered bitch" in one of his lyrics, I did my research and couldn't figure out what it was, someone please try to give me an answer for that one. He says in a line "Ain't gay but I love Ben Franklins" which is extremely contradictory to the concept of the album of being yourself, like, he even put a gay couple on the album cover. That's like saying "no homo" at a LGBT convention and the rest of it is lazy songwriting, awful attempts at romantic lines that are so bad they're hilarious (You can't take him being romantic seriously with that autotune). Shit about incest (4 lines involving fucking a family member). Awful lines about pussy. Oh, and let's not even get into the cello line. Yeah, it was a lot of fun... Not. [link] [comments] |
Leanings of this hub for black culture 'appreciation' Posted: 03 Jun 2017 11:04 PM PDT Had a look at that post about homophobia in rap and was once again reminded how not black this sub, and how people here are 'appreciating' the black culture surrounding hip hop but then somehow seeming to disagree with most black people on many topics surrounding social issues. White privilege, saying the 'n' word, systemic racism etc. It seemed the general consensus on that post was that if you're not a racist, then it's okay to say 'nigger' or 'nigga', and that this culture of calling out every white person for saying 'nigger' is tiring. What they seem to forget is that coming from a black person it is a term of endearment and reminds them of where they came from and what society they live in, where systemic racism is still rampant and egalitarianism is something that's nowhere near to being achieved. Coming from a white person in the suburbs, it is ignorance. You can say it. Your mouth can make those sounds. What they're asking for is for nobody to criticize them for saying that, and that's just not a thing. I'm all for removing the word from our vocabulary if that's what black people decide to do. What I don't want is a forced removal through fines and corporate backlash because it makes people feel uncomfortable - then it becomes another tool of oppression. It is a reversal of a more hideous term flipped to now represent a certain level of endearment and comraderie between us. In many ways it can be seen as testament to the resilience of the black American. They gave us left over animal parts and we made soul food restaurants, they gave us ghettos and we made popular culture. The word is as close as we get to a common reminder of where we came from and who we are. While I understand that some black people feel uneasy about their slave heritage I was raised to wear mine as a badge of honor and pride. Members of dominant groups tend to make a big deal over small things that they are excluded from. They want to say it too. They see it as a "freedom" that black people "enjoy" that they can't. As if they don't enjoy enough "freedoms." It's coming from a place of entitlement when people say that. They see themselves as being denied something and they think it's not fair, therefore they're being oppressed in some twisted alternate universe kind of way. Regardless of whether or not you agree with the use of the n-word (no matter the race) it is a part of black culture - if you are not of this community the usage is considered offensive by a large majority of the people, it is what it is on that. You do not get to decide if your usage of a word hurts someone. Apart from that, I also see people denying white privilege constantly. I literally just had a conversation with a prominent poster on here denying it, sarcastically saying shit along the lines 'sorry for being white they shove money in our faces when we're born'. It's crazy that a lot of these rappers you listen to and black people from the culture that surrounds it will agree that white privilege exists, and yet so many people on this sub will say otherwise. 'White people are born into poverty too.' It's something along the lines of 'I don't agree with this and deny its existence because it's not what I've experienced'. I also see complaints about black people being just as racist if not more racist than white people, and this racism being just as damaging. The thing is what people generally mean by racism is defined by their experience. Racism to them is essentially mean comments or jokes based on race. 'They ostracized me or excluded from the circle because I'm white'. And sure, that's mean and nasty and bad spirited. It sucks to be called names or miss out on friends because somebody was racist in that way. What black people call racism is the school system excluding our kids, lowering their expectations and fueling the class to prison pipeline. It's police deliberately targeting black areas when whites and blacks commit crimes at the same rate. Then pushing charges further on black people. Then judges handing down harder sentences because voters want that and vote for that and so on. It's society policing our hair and employers not wanting to hire when they see our names or banks refusing business loans when they're in better shape than white people who are approved. It's redlining and systematic ghettos to curb black social mobility, it's police brutality, police murders and injustice, media propaganda that continually dehumanizes and insults and drives white anger and fear for political ends... and the legacies of the past nobody likes to discuss. That is racism to black people. So yeah a mean name is kinda bad and FYI we get those names a fuckload worse anyway, but cry me a damn river. There's racism and racism, you feel me? Also worth nothing that homophobia is a common problem in areas of poverty and in sects of Christianity. Decades of concerted efforts of disenfranchisement, aggressive policing, economic abandonment, bulldozing communities, under-funding, school under-funding and even gentrification as a cure have created ghettos and 30% of black people today being born into poverty. [Discussion] Eazy E questions and stories Posted: 03 Jun 2017 09:26 PM PDT Hello, this is my first time posting on this subreddit. To begin my post, I had always been fascinated by Eazy E life way before the movie Straight outta Compton. However, I have a few questions if you guys don't mind answering. And stories about Eazy E before he formed N.W.A. or meeting Eazy in real life. 1.) Was Eazy E a official Crip or was he just affiliated with the Crips? (I'm constantly getting different answers about Eazy being a gangmember when he was alive) 2.) Did Eazy E really killed anybody? (On the Howard Stern show, Eazy claimed he killed 7 people) 3.) Is it true Eazy E knew he had Aids and he promise to spread the disease? (DJ Quik said this in a old interview, just wondering if it's true) Any stories about Eazy E past life or meeting Eazy E would be much appreciated. I love doing research on history events or mysterious people, so forgive me if I come off as a fanboy. Sorry the grammar mistakes. :) [link] [comments] |

Am I the only one who slept on Bucket List Project? Posted: 03 Jun 2017 10:43 PM PDT I've heard a couple verses from Saba over the years but never checked out a full project, until today....And I'm absolutely floored by how solid this record is. His writing is clever and his stories are deep and critical honeslty. I continue to be astonished at the amount of young talented artists coming out of Chicago. [link] [comments] |
