Big Sean: I Decided Story Part 1

Posted: 17 Feb 2017 09:28 AM PST

Big Sean: I Decided Story I don't know if this has been said before, I didn't even choose to look up if it has. However, as I was listening, I picked up on a few things that I heard during the album in which I think has a whole kool story and meaning behind it

"Intro". In the intro, it's basically a visualization of Big Sean, as an old man, working inside of a factory for 45 years having been that person like everyone else (i mean that very lightly) in Detroit that hasn't really stepped outside of the boundary and made an impact in their life...He wants to impact the lives of the next generation positively. Old Big Sean then realizes and resents the fact that he wasted A LOT of precious time which could've been spent with family, friends and his girl. But what I see it as is Big Sean kind of had like a premonition that if he doesn't do something, he might end up living in regret.

"Light". In this song, he has an epiphany of sorts "Spent my whole tryna find the light that was at the end of the tunnel, i shoulda realized it was inside" . He tells that he has spent his entire life trying to overcome the odds and prove the racial preconception, that people in his city won't amount to shit, wrong. In a city where no one really makes it out because they're held down from a higher power, relating this to slavery in his ancestors oppression. He also tells that he is even held down by his complexion ("Where if they know you're brown, they might hold you down and even hose you down, man"). Sean at this point has already made it and did prove the preconception wrong. ("Got the whole city on fire...I took the hand that they gave me and played the Donald Trump Card" and tells that no matter what, you can make it and don't let no one fuck with your shine. ("slave master take our names, 5-0 take the shot and young souls take the blame, man they can't fuck with the light...no matter how much they gon shade you...they can't fuck with the light") ("Don't let them take away your soul, no no, don't let them take what makes you whole")

"Bounce Back". This is like an anthem for people who take L's to bounce back basically. For Sean he is successful and realizes he has just overcome the odds which makes him feel so confident and proud in himself. He further explains that not much people get to experience what he does but if you're really committed to it...you might just ("Seen court rooms and court sides, a'int too many seen both sides") ("When you stay that committed to it, you just fall down and never fall off so"). Im not 100% sure what he meant by "fall down" but it could mean that you can get knocked down and everything may seem hopeless, but truly, it isn't and you can still BOUNCE BACK.

"No Favors". So I guess in this track, we go back. Back to where Sean is about to chase his dreams. At this point I think Sean had his epiphany when he spoke to god ("Ive been talkin to god like that's my therapist"). And now we go foward to Successful Sean where he's telling that he still wants to make a change. Especially change the lives of the people who live in his city (Detroit), all the way to Flint. Basically, this song is like "Light", but he just adds that he will do it all... and did it all...with NO FAVORS

"Jump Out The Window". Pretty sad song i might say. In this song, Sean has become a witness to an abusive relationship between his really close friend and her boyfriend. ("You cried on my phone the whole night that time he crossed the line") He begins talks her down telling her ("ya momma didn't raise you to take no disrespect"). He also tries to tell her that she deserves more and should love yourself ("I feel like real queens know how to keep the game in check, yeah") ("The question isn't "do he love ya?" the question is, "do ya love yourself"") ("you give the best advice to your friends and not take it for yourself") ("Sometimes I wonder if you even know how much you worth I gotta know"). He then reminisces about how they Mario Kart and they should've been together instead. Also, from what I assume is that, this friend he is talking about is his next door neighbor. Because he says "I think I'm ready to jump out the window". Almost like he watching it through his window like a little creep. I could also back this up with the fact that in the music video for "Halfway Off The Balcony", you can see the girl he is talking about standing in doorway and then proceeds to go inside. OK, so now in the second verse he says she sleep deprivation. With that and the fact that she has no self love and she disapproved with Sean going to beat his ass up, ("I went to straighten his ass out and you told me never mind"), I can only assume that she is suffering from depression. And at the end of the song he just wants her to be with him ("I think we should be get together sometimes on the low low low")

That's part 1 so far, what do you think?
