Recommended If You Like thread - May 21, 2022 Posted: 21 May 2022 08:00 AM PDT If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want. Example: "I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye production" (you can get more specific but usually enough). And then someone will respond with recommendations X, Y, and Z. You can also leave a top level comment recommending an artist/project/scene that you think others might like if they like X, Y, and Z. Example: "You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats" Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question. The more descriptive you guys are with your posts, the easier it is to help you find what you want. Just stating an artist's name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music. [link] [comments] |

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Boldy James & Real Bad Man - Killing Nothing Posted: 21 May 2022 10:51 AM PDT It's been over 24 hours, what are your initial thoughts on the new album? For me personally, there hadn't been an album released this year that I immediately loved until this one. Boldy sounds so comfortable over seemingly any kind of production, but the pockets he finds in these Real Bad Man beats are especially nice. I may even prefer this pairing to the Boldy-Alchemist projects but it's too early to say that for sure. [link] [comments] |

Mach-Hommy - Pray For Haiti (One Year Later) Posted: 21 May 2022 10:06 AM PDT Mach dropped this album on May 21st last year. How do you feel about this project? How did it age for you? Favorite songs and verses from this project? Where does it rank in Mach's discography for you? Was it one of your favorite albums of last year? This album is definitely in my top 3 of 2021. Favorite songs are The 26th Letter, No Blood No Sweat, Kriminel, Marie and Murder Czn. [link] [comments] |

[DISCUSSION] What does "replay value" mean for you? Posted: 21 May 2022 04:37 AM PDT As of late there has been an increasing talk about "replay value", especially with the release of Kendricks latest album and the recent sales figures of said album. As Kendrick "only" sells 286k first week, I've wondered what is the reason for such a low figure. It's not low in general, but considering the 5 year gap and the accumulated hype, I've been expecting something around 400-500k. Sales are not everything, but sales do kinda reflect how the masses conceived the album. I've encountered many reasons why that might have happened, but the term "replay value" stuck out the most. What is "replay value" for you? Many consider Kendricks album to be a masterpiece with low replay value, but isn't good music classified as "good music" when it has high replay value? So in the end, could it mean that commercial songs is actual good music, because it's catchy and makes you want to comeback? I actually like songs with a message, BUT it has to sound good in the first place before I dissect the message of a song. Musically I actually prefer music that is a bit experimental mixed with familiarity. Not too off putting, but has enough oddities to make me comeback and explore it more. What do you guys think?
