Posted: 01 Jul 2022 05:42 AM PDT As the second half of the year kicks off today, I want to invite you to quickly go over four of the biggest Hip Hop albums that dropped in the first ~180 days of the year. I wanted to keep the selection as accessible as possible, so I chose in favor of some fo the bigger releases of the year. They all deserve the placement though. Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See The Future This album won the forth spot in the rate, by winning the popular vote in the Rate Announcement post. I didn't rate this album highly initially, but production by quality contributors such as Robert Glasper and Dot Da Genius is making me look forward to the precise listen in the next days. Originally, I wanted this spot to go to a Midwest rapper's album to represent all of the main regions, but I'm fine with this nomination since Denzel also represents the internet like no other artist here. Pusha T - It's Almost Dry Always a safe bet to deliver quality, I thought Pusha's formula would become played out - or dry - by now. However, he spiced it up just enough with the production being jointly handled by Kanye West and Pharrell Williams so to not become boring. Future - I Never Liked You Even though long stretches of the newest Future album saw the Freebandzgang boss in auto-pilot this does not mean the album doesn't deserve to be here. Future's talent means that it doesn't take a lot of effort for him to deliver an album that is better than 90% of his peers today. Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers A lot has been said about overarching themes of this album as a whole, but I am curious how the tracks will score on an individual level. Stripped from their context within the album, do they still hold up? Of course this can be said about every album on here, but this one if particular makes me curious. A quick reminder on how to do the rate: READ ALL OF THESE BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR SCORES
This is correct: Massaging Me: 7 I just wish this was longer These are incorrect: Massaging Me: 7: I just wish this was longer Massaging Me: I just wish this was longer 7 Massaging Me - 7 I just wish this was longer Massaging Me: 7 (I just wish this was longer) You can also leave comments on complete albums by adding a colon after the album name and then your comment (without a score), like so: I Never Liked You: never underestimate Future to release a masterpiece ( Scores are due in 2-3 weeks. Just do it ASAP as I'm sure most of you still have these albums in rotation. [link] [comments] |
