Example: "I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye production" (you can get more specific but usually enough). And then someone will respond with recommendations X, Y, and Z. You can also leave a top level comment recommending an artist/project/scene that you think others might like if they like X, Y, and Z. Example: "You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats" Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question. The more descriptive you guys are with your posts, the easier it is to help you find what you want. [FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Kota The Friend & Statik Selektah - To Kill A Sunrise Posted: 20 Mar 2021 09:14 AM PDT What did people think? I love it. Didn't know who Kota The Friend was before late last summer but his music is so good to vibe to, he's become one of my favorites. This is probably his best-produced project. No surprise since Statik is a legend, but they're a really good pairing. Perfect sunny Saturday afternoon album. This reminds me a little of the Gran Turismo tape Statik did with Curren$y a couple years ago. [DISCUSSION] 6 dogs - RONALD (One Week Later) Posted: 20 Mar 2021 04:19 PM PDT Top Comments in Fresh Thread holy shit "jumping off the roof wasn't pre-meditated" on Indigo Daydream :( </3 this whole song is ripping at my heartstrings starts of with "I feel like screaming so I'm just finna scream" "never been so broke and I've never been so lonely" Been rocking with 6 Dogs since the flossing music video. He has always been rocking in his own lane, I'm going to miss hearing new music from him. Seemed like a good dude and his music was evolving with him. RIP 6 Dogs He def was progressing with each album. Sad we wont be able to see how good he could get. R.I.P. 6 Dogs Top Comments in First Impressions As someone who had no idea who 6 Dogs was, and also a pretty low opinion of a lot of soundcloud rap, this album blew my expectations out of the water. Something about it registered pretty deeply with me. This is what I would've imagined a trap-based Cudi to sound like, and I'm so glad I gave this album a shot. But unfortunately now I'm also depressed about losing such a talented artist. Rest easy 6 Dogs. love the project my only complaint is the random features who don't add much to the songs, would have been a lot better with different/no features but still rip to a goat Super impressed, only been out for a day and I've already listened to it 3-4 times. It sounds like he leveled up on this project. The synths are great, the mixing is super clean compared to his early stuff. Most of the hooks are catchy and I enjoyed the features on here as well. Very bittersweet release and it's a shame we lost such a great talent. really solid project but the random bar about how "jumping off the roof wasn't premeditated" on indigo daydream was sorta off putting. like some other people mentioned, the features seemed a bit unnecessary but all the standalone tracks were really nice. rip 6 submitted by /u/HHHRobot [link] [comments]

Really liked those 2 and I came for the high intensity shit Both of those are so good. Clarity is a fantastic track. I still think I liked Steelo Flow more than anything on here, but this might grow on me Cause these are all throw aways. Real shit coming soon Top Comments in Fresh Thread This shit goes extremely hard, the 11 track album format fits his style way better so it doesnt feel too bloated. Mixing could use some work as usual tho I'm going in will report back edit: It's pretty good. I enjoyed it after listening a few times. Not much to say you either like this sorta stuff or you don't. I hear what someone said about the mixing but I think it kinda adds to some of the distorted effects so I can overlook that Fire album but damn the mixing is low quality. [DISCUSSION] Zebra Katz - LESS IS MOOR (One Year Later) Posted: 20 Mar 2021 09:22 AM PDT Inspired by James Baldwin, Grace Jones, Nina Simone, and Little Richard, Zebra Katz's 2020 debut album, Less is Moor - pays homage to the minimalistic approach often demanded from artists of color. Morgan clarifies this by saying that non white people are commonly expected to be more resourceful than their white counterparts. With elements of hip-hop, drum 'n' bass, and electronic music, Less is Moor is said to channel Katz's caustic lyricism into its biting rhythms. The basis for the Less is Moor album started while Morgan was studying at the New School's Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts. His senior thesis project, "Moor Contradictions," was a performance featuring monologues and raps, including "Ima Read," from different personas created by Morgan. Among these characters is Zebra Katz, who Morgan says, was formed as a result of his thesis on identity obsession. R&B Artist Spotlight: Snoh Aalegra Posted: 19 Mar 2021 08:01 AM PDT Spotify Apple Music Instagram Youtube Channel Music Style: Neo Soul and Contemporary R&B taking influence from Trip Hop, Jazz, Soul, Hip-Hop, and Orchestral Sounds. ​ Swedish singer, Snoh Sheri Nowrozi otherwise known as Snoh Aalegra is some who knows her way around Modern Soul music. Her take on it showcases as taste of nostalgia without sounding dated. Snoh possess good aspects for a R&B singer, which are good vocals, emotive singing, and a nice Hip-Hop edge. Snoh's use of these aspects is what makes her a formidable force in R&B music today. ​ Snoh Aalegra refers to her style as Cinematic Soul. He describes it as her own mixture of orchestral arrangements with soothing bass lines into R&B, Soul, and Hip-Hop music. Personally, I would say that the mixture is a formula that works, especially on stuff like Recent Times and Don't Explain. The cinematic elements in her music is often a double edged sword in my opinion. While it does help Snoh bring something fresh to the table, it can also get kind of repetitive as seen in one of her EP's. Despite this Snoh shows that she can use cinematic elements to her full advantage. Another element to Snoh's music is that she incorporates a lot of Trip Hop to her sound. It helps give her songs (Sometimes, Fool For You, Like I Used To) a dreamlike sensual vibe. She also incorporates Jazz (Home, In Your River, Charleville 9200), Psychedelic Soul (You Keep Me Waiting, I Didn't Mean to Fall in Love, Toronto), Hip Hop (Nothing to Me, Peace, Nothing Burns Like the Cold, Bad Things), an old school sound (Walls, Don't Explain) and Sophisti-pop (Recent Times). There are times when Snoh, even goes a bit left field with her sound like in Be Careful, Love Like That, You, Chaos, All I Have, and Situationship. Snoh can also work with a sole piano as seen in Time and You Always Knew. She even can make radio friendly songs like Woah and You Got Me. ​ Lyrically, Snoh is at her best when she's writing about sad stuff. A reason for that could be because she uses her own painful experiences in writing them. This can be seen in You Always Knew, There Will Be Sunshine, and Time. In fact look at these lyrics for Time below. Memories fading, I try to hold on When I don't know where I belong no more The sound of your voice was my all, was my home But these walls, they can't hear you no more, no more You see how hard these hit? Snoh really knows how to make painful lyrics hit. I would say that some of Snoh's best qualities is her singing. Her voice has a nice deep husky element while still expressing a sensual, feminine, and soulful tone. Her singing voice is often reminiscent of Brandy at times. In fact, she channels Brandy in this cover of Usher's U Remind Me. She also channels Amy Winehouse in Under the Influence. Some of her best vocals can be seen in You, I Didn't Mean to Fall in Love, Paradise, and You Keep Me Waiting. ​ If you want some Pop Soul with good somber lyrics, listen to her EP There will Be Sunshine. If you're in the mood for a cinematic jazzy feel, listen to her EP Don't Explain. If you want some sensual Neo Soul with Trip Hop elements, listen to her albums FEELS and - Ugh, those feels again.
