- Last night, The Kid Laroi brought Australian drill group ‘ONEFOUR’ out at his Sydney show as a surprise. Known by some as the ‘NWA of Australia,’ this was their first major live performance since the NSW police banned them from performing and prohibited their manager from contacting them in 2019.

Recommended If You Like thread - May 28, 2022 Posted: 28 May 2022 08:00 AM PDT If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want. Example: "I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye production" (you can get more specific but usually enough). And then someone will respond with recommendations X, Y, and Z. You can also leave a top level comment recommending an artist/project/scene that you think others might like if they like X, Y, and Z. Example: "You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats" Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question. The more descriptive you guys are with your posts, the easier it is to help you find what you want. Just stating an artist's name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music. [link] [comments] |
What’s something in hiphop that’s unconfirmed, that you 100 percent believe? Posted: 28 May 2022 03:03 PM PDT For example, I feel like lil Wayne's increase in music quality was because of pusha T's diss on infrared. I could see pushas shots have Wayne take that personally, and up his pen game. This is not that far fetched, as carter 5, funeral, his features were all very nice and had pretty crazy wordplay. Anyways, what about you guys? What's something in hiphop that's unconfirmed, that you 100 percent believe? [link] [comments] |
Could all of Odd Future have been fairly big or were some acts just bound to peak? Posted: 28 May 2022 01:30 PM PDT I personally think Mellowhype could have been big and domo def had potential but they really never got to Frank, Tyler or Earl status. Why do you think this is so? Did the teen angst and shock value image only help the bigger acts? Was it hard to transition from immature raps to a solidified singular act that is serious? Ex member Casey veggies left early on before they blew up and I think that was do to the fact of wanting to separate himself as his own act. I feel like when there are big groups there are always lesser acts that didn't quite get there. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 May 2022 12:14 AM PDT Quotes from Laroi from last night: "These guys have been banned from performing in Australia, and guess what? I don't fuck with that." "So tonight, I'm gonna fucking give them what they deserve, and they're gonna come out here and do a few songs for us tonight. Let's fucking go Sydney." The impromptu mini-set began with ONEFOUR and LAROI performing their joint 2020 single 'My City' (the closing track from ONEFOUR's 'Against All Odds' EP). LAROI then dipped away from the mic, watching on while ONEFOUR played two of their own cuts: 2019's 'Shanks And Shivs' and 2020's 'Spot The Difference' If you're unfamiliar with ONEFOUR, they've exploded onto the Australian rap scene over the past five years pioneering aussie drill music, and have collaborated with Laroi as well as A$AP Ferg and various UK drill artists. This is despite many of their members being in and out of prison, and even being completely banned from their scheduled tour and banned from performing at all by NSW police since 2019. Their manager was also barred from communicating with the group in any form at all. This was their first major live performance since the ban, and second performance at all after a private gig was played a couple of days ago. Given Laroi's international success, I think It'll be interesting to see if there is any fallout/repercussions from this decision. Hopefully though it may lead to ONEFOUR having their ban lifted. What do you guys think? EDIT: adding some ONEFOUR tracks to check out for the uninitiated: [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 May 2022 06:01 PM PDT Almost every Kendrick Lamar album, a lot of Kanye's albums, Chance records, etc. make heavy reference to God and religion, etc. I mean, Sing About Me I'm Dying of Thirst and How Much a Dollar Costs are some of the best hop hop songs of all time imho, and their very explicitly religious. So why don't we see a lot of this quality coming out of the Christian rap game? [link] [comments] |
