Hype Thursday: Post songs by artists that haven't gotten more than 50 upvotes on HHH

Rules

Artists qualify if they're never gotten 50 or more upvotes on /r/HipHopHeads (counting features)

Formatting:

Artist - Title

Description: no character minimum but some things that might be good to include: where the rapper is from, what subgenres they might fall into, have cosigns they might have, what their influences are/who they sound like.

Example:

Aaron May - Let Go

17 year old Houston Rapper, biggest influences are J Cole and Nas.

Shygirl - UCKERS

Actually found this song in a /r/popheads post on upcoming artists (definitely a rap song though). Here's the description that made me give a listen:

The main hook of this track is a looping, unfurling bloodcurdling screech that makes for one of the most interesting beats of 2019. It's like Cupcakke meets Clipping. and it's every bit as jarring and magical as it sounds, somehow managing to sound both sexy and disturbing.

Cupcakke is not the right comparison though. Ms Banks would probably be more appropriate

Booba

a selection:

older:

newer:

A legend in French hip-hop, equivalent to someone like 50 or Wayne in the Francophone world. Influential like no one else in that area of the world. His music goes in and he raps like a fucking poet at the same time. A unabashedly controversial poet. His cosign goes far in France.

Understandably, unpopular here due to the language barrier. But I think his guttural delivery, infectious bravado, impeccable alliteration and timing, all transmit well in any language.

These are all quite different styles, as you can see. IMO he has recently been coasting on his recognition acquired through the past and his recent work has been a bit repetitive trap stuff but still a legend.

If you understand French though... his lyricism is another level of sophistication (and you would know). If you're a French speaking hip hop fan and haven't read this please do (article from a French literary journal, explaining just how complex and good his bars are)

Or this 43 minute video essay on Youtube titled "Booba, France's Last Poet":

He actually lives in Miami too lmao, but doesnt rap in English

One day, I think someone should do a translation of his opus in English, his wordplay deserves more recognition from the world. I feel bad for hiphop fans who can't get to fully experience Booba. Genuinely a top 5 hiphop artist in all languages for me.

Apollo Bebop - Dangerous (Watch Out!)

Super underrated jazz rap band based out of Los Angeles. The production is BADBADNOTGOOD level quality and the MC is a dope lyricist.

I was watching this Twitch stream where they play music video and I discovered this guy OG Spliff from NC.

OG Spliff - Who Dat

The beat is wavy as fuck which is what sets it a part for me. Kinda reminds me of a more street/melodic Isaiah Rashad. or Carti

Leo Little

This guy broke into a police station to do a video, he's a Boward County rapper, here's the video, the song is called "Bus", he's got a cool vibe. Kinda reminds me of aggro XXX.

Benji

If you like Travis check him out

He is one of the two new members of Spillage Village. He's from Pittsburgh, and he opened up for EG on their last tour. That's about all I know about him rn, but I'm excited to learn more.

Tamale

On My Way

Family Ties (feat. Inez)

Pittsburgh's Very Own

Khary

Khary, Haasan Barclay, Kota the Friend - Fuchsia

The song on youtube is under Haasan Barclay, but I originally wanted to showcase Khary. Barclay's performance on this song reminds me of DRAM. If you like Kota's style, I think this song will be right up your alley. Also the productions done by Latrell James.

Khary - Satellites & Rearview Mirrors (feat. Maesu)

Possibly one of the best cover arts I've seen in a while. (Done by this person) Maesu's performance on the hook is beautiful. I would say that Khary's rapping style is very personal. Like he sorta brings you in and talks about some of the stuff he's going through.

Heavily recommended: If you post a song, listen to another song and comment on it. Otherwise it doesn't rly work that well.

Feel free to add any feedback on what could make these threads better.
