Hype Thursday: Post songs by artists that haven't gotten more than 50 upvotes on HHH

Posted: 30 Apr 2020 09:00 AM PDT

Rules

Artists qualify if they're never gotten 50 or more upvotes on /r/HipHopHeads (counting features)

Formatting:

Artist - Title

Description: no character minimum but some things that might be good to include: where the rapper is from, what subgenres they might fall into, have cosigns they might have, what their influences are/who they sound like.

Example:

Aaron May - Let Go

17 year old Houston Rapper, biggest influences are J Cole and Nas.

Philo — 4.24.20 (Psychedelia)

i'm Philo. i'm an artist from st. louis and i'm officially releasing my first single tomorrow.

i am very heavily inspired by the 90s / early 2000s hip hop philosophy

i would say i sound most like Common, Comeback Season Drake, and J. Cole

this single is about my liberating experience with marijuana. i tried it after turning 27 and it's changed everything for me.

NoCap - Ghetto Angels

He's been blowing up recently down south. He's that Rod Wave, NBA youngboy, Quando Rondo type slow, melodic, southern style. This is definitely his best song but he has many standouts. Brag Different and No Patience with PoloG are other fire tracks.

Creek Boyz - With My Team

This is probably my most played track since it came out in 2017. It's a melodic anthem "posse cut" even though it's just 3 guys in the group. They're from Baltimore and have a few other bangers like Celebrate, Boss Right Now, and Trap Digits. They released an album last year titled 1-11 but it doesn't quite live up to the hype I had based on my first impressions.

I'm gonna try doing RnB edition cause I know HHH sleeps on RnB so even artists with a good buzz don't get posted here

Shantel May

she's a newcomer, you might recognize her from ...Again from the new dvsn album which is easily one of the best tracks on it.

It's Better This Way [prod. Vinylz + Nineteen85, co-prod. Boi-1da] is her newest song and it legit has under 5000 views on the video even tho it's a great song. Back n Forth [prod. Nineteen85] is her only other officially released song, it actually got a bunch of views. it She doesn't have much music out cuz until recently she was just dvsn's backup singer.

Re Lxuise

Muse has a nice atmospheric contemporary RnB vibe, with chill Pink Sweat$ type of acoustic instrumentation, and she's got great husky vocals.

The One more of a mainstream feel to it but it's still got her atmospheric feel and good vocals.

Lucky Daye

This is one of those that I think would definitely have much more than 50+ upvotes before if HHH didn't sleep on RnB. But I might as well promote him since he's dope and hasn't broke that barrier here. He does RnB with a groovy, funky, twist. He's a great singer and I love his production, he's always got some very organic sounding production and live instrumentation.

You've mighta already heard his big single Roll Some Mo but his whole album 'Painted' is great. Few other great tracks from him are Buying Time (there's also a great COLORS show performance of it), Misunderstood, and Late Night.

Ro James

Another dude who makes retro flavored contemporary RnB music, but it's not the same as Lucky Daye's. I hear some Prince and maybe even D'Angelo influence on him.

Permission is his big single and probably his best song, you may have heard it before.

Burn Slow is also a great track.

Blvck Spvde

Think if DRAM was a member of [sLUms].

He was featured on The Best Soul on Bandcamp: February 2020:

On his latest releases, Svmthngz N Nvthngz Sessions, rapper and singer Blvck Spvde pairs futuristic production with lyrics focused on the here and now. His sing-song delivery style and deep, resonant voice are complemented by buzzy, electro-funk beats. Lyrically, Spvde encourages self-love on the loose, loungey "Kingz n Queenz," and unity on "High Low," which blends gospel, free jazz, and soul into a thrilling musical concoction. By contrast, "Exit Plan" is spare and driving, with a razor-sharp guitar line slashing against a bed of synths, and handclaps and group vocals that evoke the roots of negro spirituals. Throughout, Blvck Spvde used his music for a higher purpose: The mournful yet resolute "Svmthinwillmvus, Vngles" addresses the toll of violence on Black lives, and the struggle to keep hope alive in the face of tragedy, its churning musical backdrop and Spvde's deep, distant vocal mirroring the sadness and turbulence at the song's core.

Heavily recommended: If you post a song, listen to another song and comment on it. Otherwise it doesn't rly work that well.

Feel free to add any feedback on what could make these threads better.

What popular song has not aged very well?

Posted: 30 Apr 2020 12:52 PM PDT

My pick is King by T.I.

I loved that song back in 2006 and now I find it kinda corny and silly.
