Recommended If You Like Thread - March 02, 2019

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Look through past posts here

ALSO please check out this thread for a list of some of the most popular recommendation requests and the suggestions provided

[DISCUSSION] Rick Ross - Mastermind (5 Years Later)

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:43 PM PST

Five years ago Rick Ross dropped his sixth studio album "Mastermind".

The album was both a commercial success, selling 179K first week, and a critical one, earning acclaim from publications such as XXL, Entertainment Weekly, and NME. The album was also nominated for Album of the Year at the 2014 BET Awards.

[DISCUSSION] De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising (30 Years Later)

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 09:42 AM PST

3 Feet High and Rising is the debut studio album by hip hop trio De La Soul. With its playful wordplay, innovative sampling, and witty skits, the album is widely regarded as a hip-hop masterpiece.

What do you think of this album 30 years since it was first released? Does it deserve classic status?

[OC] r/hiphopheads Monthly Most Upvoted Track Posts

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:15 PM PST

At the turn of the New Year I posted a playlist which collected the most upvoted tracks of 2018 on r/hiphopheads. I've also been tracking the top songs in another playlist over a monthly period which at the time was only available on Spotify. I'm happy to announce that this playlist is now available on Apple Music as well. If you'd like to get a recap of the most upvoted track posts from February, you can check them out below on Spotify or Apple Music. If you follow the playlists, you'll automatically get the updates pushed every Saturday IN PERPETUITY.

Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3yqoKvr8zME0UgXee1sjhk

Apple Music: https://itunes.apple.com/us/playlist/r-hiphopheads/pl.u-6mo4aVZTBjNV6N

2018 Top Tracks: https://redd.it/adpca9

The running playlist is updated every Saturday using a combination of total upvotes and upvote percentage as a metric. The playlist keeps track of song popularity over the period of a month. This picks up most songs posted that are in Spotify, but if the artist and song name don't match (example: bootleg uploads to streaming services) then the bot won't pick it up. For album postings, the playlist posts the most popular song not already in the playlist. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please shoot me a PM.

Thanks for being a great community and posting new songs that I personally get to enjoy all the time. I started this as a personal project a few months ago to organize songs from this sub and others so they'd be available for me on the go. I figured other people may want similar functionality so here ya go!
