Welcome to HHH Listening Club!

This well we'll be listening to Da Resurrection by Al Kapone.

Background

Alphonzo Bailey, better known by his stage name Al Kapone, is rapper from Memphis, Tennessee. Al Kapone is known principally for his underground success in the Memphis hip hop scene in the 1990s and current role in a number of contemporary songs. Before the popularity of fellow Memphis rappers 8Ball & MJG and Three 6 Mafia, Al Kapone was a mainstay of the underground Memphis hip hop scene.

In 2005 he broke through when three cuts he wrote - "Whoop That Trick," "Hustle & Flow (It Ain't Over)," and "Get Crunk, Get Buck" -- became key tracks on the Hustle & Flow soundtrack. A year later he got a co-writing credit on Lil Jon's hit "Snap Yo Fingas," and then in 2007 he landed on Eightball and MJG's album Ridin' High. In 2009 he announced plans for a new project influenced by Memphis' rich musical history and featuring live musicians.

Da Resurrection is Al Kapone's 34d project after "Lyrical Driveby" (EP) and "Sinista Funk" (Album). This album was released in 1995, well before he had any sort of international attention. All the features and production comes from other underground Memphis artists.
