Recommended If You Like Thread - November 18, 2017

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 10:05 AM PST

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Look through past posts here

ALSO please check out this thread for a list of some of the most popular recommendation requests and the suggestions provided

Akademiks personally interviews Tekashi 69 who denies sex with 13 year old.

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 12:54 PM PST

video Do you believe Tekashi? What are your thoughts?

Edit: Here's my opinion: Tekashi's story aint adding up & Akademiks either didn't do enough research to ask the right questions or intentionally alley-ooped Tekashi with certain questions to help him clear his name.

For example, @15:40 Akademiks asks, "So no one had sex with the girl, to your knowledge?"

I say he alley ooped him or didn't do research because Akademiks asks Tekashi "You didn't have any type of sexual contact with the her, but you were you the video?" But there's a picture floating around online with Tekashi's arm around the child while the child is shirtless. You think Akademiks missed this?

Akademiks also asked Tekashi about whether or not he could be around kids @16:42. But Akademiks didn't directly ask Tekashi about him stating "I can't be around kids." on camera video

Tekashi might have accidentally suggested that artists normally practice sexual relations with children. @ 16:23 "I thought she was of age, she was just wilding. You know how these girls be bro, you know how tour buses, all that shit go on bro. Bro I didn't even know shit (or she) was gonna come back and bite me."

Tekashi also says it happened 4 years ago when he was 17 but also says it happened in 2014. Which leads me to believe he was 18 at the time. Why would he plead guilty to sex with a minor if he was also a minor at the time? Hmmmmm? Something fishy. He keeps stuttering and pausing frequently. His thoughts aren't fluid. I wish he would've interviewed with someone who pressed these issues & really questioned him.

EDIT 2: Someone sent me what he was charged with. here

EDIT 3: Mods locked the comments. If you want to discuss it further my inbox is wide open.

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Cyhi the Prynce - No Dope On Sundays

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 10:29 AM PST

I can't believe I haven't see any discussion on this album yet. It's been out all week on NPR but now it's been well over 24 hours since it's official release. I am really loving this album so far. Even his mainstream sounding songs are great to me. I feel like this sub will hate Lookin for Love but that was one of my favorite songs. I can't really think of any songs I hate. What does everyone think?

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] T-Pain - Oblivion

Posted: 18 Nov 2017 08:19 AM PST

So the album has been out a bit over 24 hours now, how does everybody feel about it? I think Pain did a great job lyrically and when it came to choosing production. Personally, I love the trap-influenced R&B beats on this thing. 2 Fine is a good example of Pain blending genres to create a more interesting project than an R&B or trap track alone would have been. Pu$$y on the Phone and I Told My Girl are straight bangers. There aren't a lot of pop songs on this one either, unlike Pain's last album.

Overall, I can listen to the whole album start to finish without skipping, even though the Chris Brown track isn't really my preferred style. It's a solid collection of good tracks.

While it's thematically different from previous T-Pain albums, it's not that thematically different from the mainstream, so it loses a few creativity points for that. Regardless, it's still fire.

Overall it was definitely my favorite project to come out of new release Friday. It's been a while since I've heard an R&B project I can listen to from start to finish and feel satisfied.
