So as you might know the Illmatic and good kid, m.A.A.d city Survivor threads we were doing broke a few rules and we got shut down yesterday. Due to this, we have moved to our own subreddit, r/music_survivor.

There will be at least one thread up there by the end of the night, as we are just getting started. Since it would obviously get a little overcrowded if we freely let people post Survivor threads, we have limited it to moderators for the moment, and we are currently looking for moderators who would like to post Survivor threads outside of hip-hop. If you would like to do so, please feel free to PM me or send us a mod message over at the subreddit.

If you enjoyed these threads in the slightest please come join us, the more the merrier!

EDIT: Also, I might not get back to anybody for an hour or so, I'm heading home and I wanted to post this before I left just to get started.

[ARTICLE] Vince Staples - new album "Big Fish Theory" / VICE Interview

Posted: 12 Mar 2017 06:47 AM PDT

Went into my local record store today and picked up March 2017 issue of Vice Magazine. Happened to find an interview with Vince just casually chatting about new album called "Big Fish Theory".

IMAGES OF VICE ARTICLE HERE

At first I thought Vince was just fucking with the journo cause I found no reference to the name on Google, Twitter, HHH etc., but later on in the article it reads:

"On 'Big Fish Theory', Staples plays with the ideas of conflicting expectations, mixing, for instance, "holy water with the Voss". Lead single "BagBak" declares, "Tell the president to suck a dick because we on now," over a bruisingly huge electronic bass."

Which makes it sound like "BagBak" was not just a pre-Life Aquatic tour loosie. There's also the (super descriptive...) statement of "The songs on 'Big Fish Theory' are excellent" and references to being in the studio with Vince.

Check out the images I posted above (sorry for potato quality, laptop and scanner are fucked) from mobile. So also apologies for any shit formatting.

Hadn't heard any news about this before, so I'm pretty hyped especially if he continues to develop the sounds of flows of Prima Donna and his Collins with GTA and Flume.

Next time, on Poppy Street...

DISCLAIMER

Please keep it civil in the comments. These are simply edits I made to fulfill requests.

EDIT:

I have now gotten 50+ requests. I have stopped asking the lord for forgiveness for removing 2 Chainz & Migos' verses, instead, I'm now asking the lord for help. All jokes aside, thanks for all your feedback & requests! Rest assured that I've seen every request, so if I didn't reply to you personally, don't worry 'cause I gotchu. I was originally planning to just keep updating this thread with the new requests but seeing as I've gotten way too many. I will be making a part 2 & post it within the next few days. Also, shoutout to the mods for keeping their cool regarding the shitposting comments, I appreciate y'all!

Side note: Check out /u/versedaworst's comment for more edits.

I made a visual album for Watching Movies with the Sound Off, and added videos for the songs that didn't have official ones. I highly recommend that you watch it on 2K resolution while heavily intoxicated. Link inside.

Here's the link: https://vimeo.com/202080451

This is one of my favorite albums ever, and I loved the videos for it. I was inspired by the story of Mac playing Turtle: The Incredible Journey during the listening party, so I decided to put everything in the order of the album and added clips from nature documentaries and other things for the songs that didn't have videos. I really liked the idea of doing it for this album in particular because it's a reference to people taking acid and watching movies with a different album playing (The Dark Side of Oz being the most famous), so I found clips that fit the feeling/vibe of the song and just threw them all together with no editing and minimal transitions. There are a lot of things that sync up when you watch it (especially while tripping), but none of them are planned- I liked the idea of having the things that sync up happening naturally, like if you just randomly decided to put a song with a video and see what matches up.

So skim through it if you like or save it for when you're drunk/high, and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading, and enjoy the show.

Edit- P.S. My favorite videos are the ones for Red Dot Music and REMember.

This Week's Late Night TV Performances (3/12-3/18)

Posted: 12 Mar 2017 08:09 PM PDT

A decent amount of hip hop artists are performing on late night shows this week and since the videos almost always get to the front page after the fact, I put a schedule in the table below for anyone wanting to catch them live. If there's any interest, I would be willing to compile something like this each week!

Unless noted, all guests are musical performers and not interviewed guests. Songs are not always announced ahead of time, and will be updated if made available.

This is who's scheduled for this week:

Date Guest Song Show + Time
Tuesday, March 14th Rick Ross (interview + musical performance feat. Ty Dolla $ign) I Think She Like Me The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (CBS, 11:35 PM)
Wednesday, March 15th Ice Cube (interview only) N/A The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC, 11:35 PM)
Wednesday, March 15th Khalid TBA The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC, 11:35 PM)
Friday, March 17th Run The Jewels TBA The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC, 11:35 PM)
