[DISCUSSION] "Respectable" Female Rappers vs. "Promiscuous" Female Rappers and why it shouldn't really matter. Posted: 24 Apr 2018 08:43 AM PDT In the world of hip hop, the female scene is small but growing very rapidly. From lyricists like Rapsody and Noname to more raunchy, punchline oriented rappers like Nicki Minaj. The thing is about all of these rappers, is it really doesn't fucking matter whether they are female or not. This sub, and the rap community decides to compare female rappers to other ones instead of comparing them to any men. Why don't we compare Cardi more to A$AP Ferg, Rich The Kid, or 2 Chainz? Why do we even have to do that comparison? If you simply go back and listen to their discographies you can already tell Cardi isn't in the bubble of pop rap like we'd say Nicki moreso is. Some of the comparisons this sub make actually don't make any sense. I see commenters comparing Noname to Cardi and asking why Noname doesn't get the attention she deserves. Well, in the world of let's say "Male only" rap why is Saba not bigger than Famous Dex? He has over 7 years of a well built and diverse catalogue that doesn't really connect with radio music, and that's okay! Rap is built out of both the mainstream and underground. Not everyone needs to blow up and not everyone needs to stay in the dim light. People were making those comparisons about Drake and whatever lyrical XXL freshman was coming out in 2011. We don't need to make these comparisons because Drake is close to a modern day hip hop legend, and probably already is one (Do not tell me Take Care is not a classic). This doesn't mean Famous Dex will be a legend but what he does do is contribute his own unique style and flow to an already diverse genre while Saba stays in a more lyrical and conceptual route. So still, tell me why the fuck you are comparing Rapsody, who put an album out on the same level as Big Krits "4eva Is A Mighty Long Time" to Nicki Minaj who put out "The Pinkprint" and "Pink Friday." Why don't we just start comparing rappers because of ability and style instead of making bullshit just to be misogynistic. You can be smarter than the box you are making for yourself. We don't have to ruin discussion but we choose to anyways and I'd like for that to change. submitted by /u/TwoToesTipping [link] [comments] |
