On June 29, 2021 Billboard wrote an article that stated "Royalty Exchange has partnered with A Tribe Called Quest to auction off 1.5% share of the sound recording royalties from the hip-hop group's first five studio albums."

At the time Billboard knew those words were not true but worded the story in a way to gain clicks 📷 They have now changed the article.

Other "journalistic" publications took the original newsfeed and ran with the misleading headline.

No member of A Tribe Called Quest has entered into any partnership with Royalty Exchange. PERIOD!

There's so much of the journey I don't talk about as I strive to live each day in the now. I let the art speak for the yesterday's and prayers speak for any missteps and guides for the tomorrow.

I will take a walk in the past today so the fans know what they are buying.

In 1989 a dream unfolds. Two teenagers sign a 5 album recording contract with Jive Records.

Q-Tip and I were represented by Ron Skoler and Ed Chalpin. Ed owned PPX Enterprises, google that ish. We had absolutely no affiliation with either of these gentlemen other than them representing us as our lawyer/"agent" in negotiating the deal with Jive.

PPX aka Ed Chalpin added a clause to our agreement stating they get paid a percentage of our recording fund EVERY time we commenced to record a new album. We did not discover this hidden clause until we commenced to record The Low End Theory. We disputed this clause. Neither Ed or Ron ever told us about this bullshit language in the agreement. It was unwarranted and where I come from "crooked." Ed sued us and he lost. He appealed the case. He was rich and had deep pockets to litigate. We however were not rich. We were kids with a dream, an album slowly selling and deeply in debt to our record company.

We were determined to not to be taken advantage of by PPX Enterprises. We wanted to fight on. Jive offered to help us with our lack of capital to litigate the appeal however they required us to sign a sixth album with them. Without any other means to get this (do not use slanderous adjectives) entity out of our lives, we signed for the 6th album, added Phife to the contract and Jive made the PPX issue disappear or so we thought.

It wasn't until reading this incomplete article by Billboard on June 29, 2021 that I learned PPX Enterprises wasn't entirely out of our business. Apparently PPX sold their share of a settlement they made with Jive Records to an individual whom entered into a partnership with Royalty Exchange. Be clear that is the NFT that was created and auctioned.

Had we known this percentage of our art was out there we would have bought it directly from PPX Enterprises as it should have never been sold by Jive Records.

TLDR: Ed Chalpin, owner of PPX Enterprises and former agent of A Tribe Called Quest had a share of the royalties of ATCQ's discography (without them knowing), this is the share that was auctioned as an NFT through Royalty Exchange. Billboard knowing this, still, put an article that made it seem the ATCQ members were the ones auctioning their music.

Hi, I hope you all've had a great summer; reconnecting with friends after the last year+ of dealing with the pandemic, quarantine, social distancing and all that fun stuff 🙃. I'm coming to you all with an attempt to bounce back from my last flop, Vilify. This record is titled Free.99, and is an EP of remixes of other songs, like Mac Miller's BDE Bonus, Kendrick's Sing About Me and 4 others. I spent soooo much time trying to get the mixing, mastering and lyrics to hit on this record. I announced this in September of last year, but god damn I didn't expect me to take this long haha. I just hope the effort shows in the end product.

Anyways, for the 99.99 ⁹ 999.... % of people who don't know me, I am a 17 year old hip-hop artist from a small town outside Lancaster, Pennsylvania. My inspirations are Mac, Kendrick, Donald Glover, IDK, Daft Punk, Kanye West, Tyler, the Creator and many more similar artists. I also take inspiration from artists like C418 (in my production), Egyptian, and Joji, granted I don't have much music that sounds like them.

This 6 track, 20 minute project is available on a few select platforms, due to copyrighted instrumentals. Contains themes of self improvement, mental health, toxic people, and politics. I will add this to more copyright laxxed platforms as I become aware of them, recommendations are welcome. Your ears would be much appreciated. I'm extremely thankful for every bit of support given to me. I'm gonna be updating the record for a little bit, with any feedback I get from listeners. Thank you for reading this far. If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: "I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye production" (you can get more specific but usually enough). And then someone will respond with recommendations X, Y, and Z.

You can also leave a top level comment recommending an artist/project/scene that you think others might like if they like X, Y, and Z.

Example: "You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats"

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

The more descriptive you guys are with your posts, the easier it is to help you find what you want. Just stating an artist's name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

One year ago, Pop Smoke's Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon is the posthumously released debut studio album. At the beginning of March 2020, American rapper 50 Cent announced on his Instagram feed he had been listening to Pop Smoke's work and had decided to help finish the late artist's debut album by serving as executive producer. In a later interview with Billboard, 50 Cent said he would not earn any money as the album's executive producer—he wanted to finish it because of his relationship with Pop Smoke. As executive producer, 50 Cent contacted artists Roddy Ricch, Drake, and Chris Brown, asking them if they wanted to be included on the record. According to Victor, Pop Smoke's debut album was meant to showcase his talent. After Pop Smoke was murdered, Victor lost interest in finishing the album until he met with 50 Cent, who persuaded Victor finishing the album would help honor Pop Smoke's wish for it to be released by the summer of 2020. 50 Cent also argued the record's release would help support Pop Smoke's family. To ensure the album's release, 50 Cent told Victor if he was not ready to complete the project, 50 Cent would executive-produce the album. Victor agreed to this, and 50 Cent listened to all of the songs, sequenced them, and promoted the album. 50 Cent, in an interview with Complex said Pop Smoke had recorded "about 50 or 60 tracks. Some of them were not completed ... Some had a chorus that was finished, and then somebody else rapped to it, and he put a verse on it". According to Victor, "eighty percent of the songs were finished" before 50 Cent got involved and largely "added some ad-libs or changed a verse here and there".

Commercial performance wise, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 251,000 album-equivalent units, giving Pop Smoke his first number one album in the US. The album also accumulated 268.44 million on-demand streams of its tracks in the week ending July 18. Pop Smoke became the first hip hop act to debut posthumously at number one on the Billboard 200 with his debut studio album. Pop Smoke also joined the Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, and XXXTentacion as the only hip hop acts to posthumously reach number one. All of the album's 19 tracks charted on the Billboard Hot 100 following its first week of release. The album returned to number one on the Billboard 200 in October 2020 after a three-month break. It was the second album in 2020 after Lil Baby's My Turn to have a lengthy hiatus between weeks at number one.

In my opinion this album this album is a solid project, I tend to go back to a few songs here & there so overall I enjoyed it & can't wait for the next album that is set to release this month, what are your thoughts on this album ?
