[DISCUSSION] Young Thug - Slime Season 3 (Five Years Later)

Posted: 24 Mar 2021 10:00 PM PDT

Slime Season 3 (stylized as SLIME S3ASON) is a mixtape by American rapper Young Thug. It was released on March 25, 2016, by 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records. The mixtape serves as the third installment to the Slime Season series. It consisted of eight tracks, which features guest appearances from Yak Gotti, Lil Duke and Peewee Roscoe, with the production by several record producers that was handled by Mike Will Made It, London on da Track, Allen Ritter, Isaac Flame and MariiBeatz, among others.
Slime Season 3 received generally positive reviews from critics and debuted at number seven on the US Billboard 200. It also debuted at number one on the US Rap Albums chart.

Some Discussion Questions:
Favorite songs?
Least favorite songs?
Where do you rank this in the SS trilogy?
Where do you rank this on Thug's discography?
Do you think it lived up to the hype?
How has it aged?
Where do you rank this in the best albums of 2016 (if you do)?
Do you think this was a step-up lyric and production-wise from his previous work?
Any though on Lyor Cohen/300's involvement and influence on the tape?

Top Comments in Fresh Thread

This album turned me into a fan.
I have no idea why but for some reason when I heard Digits when it first it dropped Thugger just finally clicked for me and I can't get enough now

Slime Season 3 is incredible. I've been doubting Thug's relationship with his label and how he is handled as an artist. This ss3 release is everything that I've been hoping for really. Many famous snippet songs from Thug were in this tape and there were little but good features. 300 handled this release very well. I mean there was that blunder with the whole Ss3 being replaced with I'm Up the other month but besides that everything from that point on has been satisfying. SS3 dropped when they said it will drop and it dropped on all of the major streaming websites for a free and legal stream. It even got a banner in the iTunes store like damn. I trust 300 & Lyor Cohen much more with SS3... This is already Young Thug's best release to date. All 8 songs on here are just incredible to me. It's a really good length compared to 22 songs on Slime Season 2... I would've been willing to have other leaked tracks be on this project but I'm happier with this 8 song approach. I can't put this project down at all. If all future projects from Thug are treated proper like this (from the label) then Young Thug will keep climbing up in greatness. The music itself will always be great in my opinion; Thug has been capable of making incredible tracks throughout his career. Slime Season 3 my album/mixtape/project of the year so far and I'm there isn't anything in my mind that's close to touching it this year.

I've always really appreciated Thugger. I didn't listen to all of his music all the time. But I appreciated him. I would blast songs such as Danny Glover, Old English, Stoner and I enjoyed all his features but not much else. I heard that song they played at Yeezy Season 3 and was hyped af. This project officially made me a full thugger fan. I've been blasting him all day. I live in Utah so people are giving me stares but I don't even care. This shit is too hot to not blast. I've officially come to the conclusion that if you can't blast Thug in the whip and dance like a madman every now and then, I cannot trust you.

This was a class act, Young Thug can't stop - I wonder how can one release so much music in a year. Maybe that's why Kanye wants to drop another album this summer, Kanye fanboy the best Kanye.
Dope af production, - Mike killed it, London was his self and Allen Ritter murdered - wonky beat and Thugger shouting there was the highlight for me.

Hype Tuesday: Post songs by artists that haven't gotten more than 50 upvotes on HHH - March 23, 2021

Posted: 23 Mar 2021 07:30 AM PDT

Rules

Artists qualify if they're never gotten 50 or more upvotes on /r/HipHopHeads (counting features)

Formatting:

>Artist - Title

>Description: no character minimum but some things that might be good to include: where the rapper is from, what subgenres they might fall into, have cosigns they might have, what their influences are, who they sound like.

Example:

>Aaron May - Let Go

>18 year old Houston Rapper, biggest influences are J Cole and Nas.

Heavily recommended: If you post a song, listen to another song and comment on it. Otherwise this thing doesn't really work that well.

Feel free to add any feedback on what could make these threads better.

Hip hop's "Gay agenda"

Posted: 23 Mar 2021 06:44 AM PDT

So I've been watching a couple of conspiracy videos "proving" there's a secret gay agenda in hip hop and Hollywood, and that rappers/celebrities from old and new get into the industry by doing gay stuff or allegedly being in the closet, and rappers nowadays dressing feminine are further pushing said agenda. They're worried about how it's emasculating black men into being less manly/fruity or whatever. Usually this coincides with the Illuminati shit .lol

Ah yes, a genre that has been notoriously homophobic is pushing a gay agenda.

Like you have no proof of that. It's incredibly baseless. Some rappers being suspect or dressing feminine doesn't indicate anything.

So if a celebrity is in the closet, that's apart of the agenda, but if they're out of closet, that's still an agenda? Which is it? It sounds like people just can't stand gay people existing or something. lol

Plus it kinda implies gay ppl can't be successful in entertainment without doing some creepy "behind closed doors" shit. Even if there's some weird elite shit behind it, why does it matter? It's not like they're making us do it.

As someone who is black, lot of these viewpoints are rooted in how the black community has always been PAINFULLY unaccepting, especially towards gay ppl. We still be using gay/fruity as an insult and shit like that it's tiring as hell.

I like the hypermasculine nature of hip hop (it probably wouldn't exist without it), but I don't mind rappers like Lil Nas X or Young Thug challenging the status quo.

They're not "ruining" hip hop cuz it's only been a minority of rappers and don't speak for the entire genre.

Anyway, here's some vids discussing this shit.
