If y'all remember we've done [HYPE WEEK] a bunch of times.

Previous weeks: 1, 2 and 3, 4. If someone wants to make a Spotify playlist of everything that's been posted so far I can add it to the OP and future OPs.

Rules

Artists qualify if they're never gotten 50 or more upvotes on /r/HipHopHeads (counting features)

Formatting:

Artist - Title

Description: no character minimum but some things that might be good to include: where the rapper is from, what subgenres they might fall into, have cosigns they might have, what their influences are/who they sound like.

Example:

Aaron May - Let Go

17 year old Houston Rapper, biggest influences are J Cole and Nas.

The highest upvoted songs might be collected for a playlist or something.

Heavily recommended: If you post a song, listen to another song and comment on it. Otherwise it doesn't rly work that well.

Genre-hopping artist, feel good artist. Makes some nice pop rap but also showcases his rapping ability from time to time. As his name suggests he's not easy to place (he's lived in China, India, and Fiji Islands) but he's currently based in California.

Kendrick - Demon Forever

 

Yeah, you read this correctly, the guy's name is just "Kendrick". Idk anything about him but this song popped up on my buddy's Memphis rap YouTube mix the other day and it was just so weird seeing a rapper consciously choose just "Kendrick" as their stage name. It makes it nearly impossible to find anything by the dude since any inevitable Google search of "Kendrick rapper" is gonna give you K Dot instead of this guy.

Peach Tree Rascals. they're a group from the Bay Area making chill, summery songs with a mix of singing and rapping that's sorta similar to Brockhampton. they're still underground but I see a ton of potential in their sound. feel like a lot of people here would like them if they knew them. they also have a good aesthetic and make a video for every one of their singles

Honestly not sure what to have as a description. He's from Cali and kinda sounds like a faster version of boogie (not sure if that's the best explanation)

Idontknowjeffery is a grimy, over-the-top rapper from the same wave artists like Xavier Wulf are from. I like his vocals, they're pretty deep but he's oddly charismatic. Mixing is all over the place but I like the trap production he goes over

Favorites include Don't Trust Jeffery and Texas

Preview

"Brothers" is a promotional single for the season 2 premiere of Irv Gotti's TV show Tales. The song will be part of the show's soundtrack. It's produced by Gotti and 7 Aurelius, who both produced "Violent Crimes".

The song is lead by Kanye and features Charlie Wilson. No indication that this will be on Yandhi, as the song was made specifically for this episode. (Speculation is also that the "preview" doesn't use the actual beat since it samples "Heard 'Em Say", but we'll have to wait and see.)

New Rules (Fuck Bill Maher)

Leaks

Formerly this rule only applied to albums, but a [LEAK] post is not appropriate if a Fresh thread is expected within 48 hours also applies to singles or if the song is just released in a different time zone.

[FRESH] Posts

Formerly, the rule was that [FRESH] posts cannot be posted until projects are released in North America, because that's where the large majority of our userbase lies, however, if an artist is based in another country (ex: the UK), a release thread can be posted when music is available in their time zone. This is because artists based in other countries generally have a bigger following in where they reside.

Vague Announcements

Announcements that are allowed:

  • Revealing project title (not counting sequels unless there's a sub title)
  • Revealing specific release date (ex: day, month and year)
  • Revealing cover art
  • Revealing tracklist
  • Revealing features/production credits

Not allowed:

  • Sequel announcement without any of the above things.
  • Collaboration announcement without any of the above things.

Self promotion clarification

If you don't contribute to /r/HipHopHeads, don't just come here to post your music. Reddit recommends that only 10% of your posts be self promotion. This includes only posting links from your YouTube channel or SoundCloud account. If you're posting original music, don't ask for feedback in the title of your post. If you're looking for feedback go to /r/MakingHipHop or the Daily Discussion thread, it's much better suited for that.

Favorites List Rule Update/Clarification

covers/performances/mashups/remixes of songs on the Favorites List are prohibited unless they're new. Bonus tracks from albums on the favorites list are prohibited as well

No announcement threads for things happening within 12 hrs

Same day announcements can be redundant when a new thread is expected soon.

New additions to formulaic posts

  • commenting about misreading things
  • talking about the comment section on the source article
  • People pretending old popular songs are something new or obscure

This will be expanded with your suggestions.

Full projects

Full projects (albums, EPs, mixtapes) should not be posted unless they're [FRESH] or it's a [DISCUSSION] thread either one week away or on a milestone anniversaries (1 year, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 years, and so on.)

You may have noticed that there's been a couple of these threads already (February, March, April and May). It's very difficult for new music to pop off here but /r/MakingHipHop has facilitated a great community for artists and so far the threads have been a great addition.

Hype Thursdays

You may have noticed these posts (1, 2, 3, 4), pretty basic concept: it's a thread to promote up and coming artists. For an artist to qualify they have to have gotten less than 50 upvotes on the subreddit.

Give us your feedback, if you have any suggestions or ideas to promote discussion, we're very open to suggestions. Also complaints, we love complaints.
