Drake has updated “Scorpion”, here's what's in the new version

Posted: 02 Jul 2018 02:32 PM PDT

Ima fix scorpion

Notes by u/MrRom92

I've inspected this new updated version (Vs. the standard 16 bit flac of the original release) and made note of the changes between the versions. There aren't any changes to any tracks besides what I've noted. If I haven't made a note of a specific track then nothing has really been altered in that track.

No more mystery.

  • "In My Feelings" - Lil Wayne's new vocals flown in but mix is otherwise identical
  • "Emotionless" no longer has the line version of shit censored at ~2:30. Entire track has a bit higher noise floor than the rest of the album but mix is the same up to the point where that vocal line was previously faded down
  • The entirety of "Talk Up" has undergone mix changes (Please note I can't say for sure if anything has been added or removed as I haven't listened that closely, but the entire track changed)
  • Entirety of "Ratchet Happy Birthday" has undergone mix changes (Please note I can't say for sure if anything has been added or removed as I haven't listened that closely, but the entire track changed)
  • The fadeout of "Blue Tint" has been altered, aside from the last few seconds of the track the mix is otherwise identical
  • The low level noise floor across the entire album differs a bit between both versions - this may just be thermal noise from any analog electronics in the mastering chain, but the fact that the July version and the June version don't null out to 100% digital black suggests that the entire album underwent a (mostly identical) mastering process twice. Whatever the cause, even the tracks where "nothing" changed will not be bit-identical, sample for sample between the two versions.

Have you converted a friend into a Hip Hop fan? What was the first song you showed them, and what artists/sub-genre did they end up liking?

Posted: 01 Jul 2018 09:20 PM PDT

For me, it happened during my junior year of high school. In my poetry class, our professor who happened to be a Hip Hop head (though you wouldn't know it from his nerdy, white exterior) handed us a group assignment. We were to present a breakdown of a rap song to the class, from it's inception, to meanings behind the lyrics, etc.

A friend immediately chose me as his partner, not just because we were friends but because he didn't know the first thing about rap. He was a big metalhead thru and thru, and didn't have a liking for rap. Turns out, like most people he believed all rap was just about showing off your wealth and smashing females. So I showed him the one song that came to my head that was the most anti-mainstream I could think of - The 3rd World by Immortal Technique. Not only did he listen so intently, but he began listening to other Immortal Technique songs.

Haven't heard from him in a while, but I hope he hasn't abandoned the music. Oh, and we killed it with our presentation. Only time in high school when we weren't punished for having profanities in a presentation.

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Look through past posts here

ALSO please check out this thread for a list of some of the most popular recommendation requests and the suggestions provided

Have you ever considered how important a role Joe Budden has played for the new generation of hip hop? Here's why...

Posted: 30 Jun 2018 10:18 PM PDT

Joe budden played an important part as the bridge between the old generation and new generation of hip hop.

He was/is a monumental figure of progression during the phase of "old heads" trying desperatly to understand appeal of the uzis, yachtys and pumps that were getting the spotlight. As negative as he always sounded I do believe he was just trying to get to the bottom of why these kids were getting so big and why the lyrical hiphop he knows and loves is declining.

Hiphop, in its new generation, needed an angry, shouting rapper from the old generation to demand answers and give the kids a chance to prove themselves. I am 100% certain he has came around to a lot of new artists and probably bumps their shit lowkey, same with people watching in his same age group.

I respect joe for acting as the bridge and basically investigating the youth and their take on music, even if he didn't realise at the time that was the part he was playing.

I'm not even a massive fan of joe but it's 6am rn and I just randomly had this thought lol.
