Introduction: Hello r/hiphopheads, I will be running the best hook thread once a week every Sunday! This will be run very similarly to the Best Verse Threads we had a while ago, as you can see the format is almost identical to the old threads. All you have to do is just post your favorite T-Pain hook with a link to the hook. And if you want to, you can quote the hook word for word in your comment. The comment with the most upvotes will be deemed that artists best hook! And at the end of the year we will decide the best hook of the ones we collected! This is my first time doing anything like this so any recommendations to formatting, anything else helpful would be great!

Both singles, "I'm Sprung" and "I'm 'n Luv (Wit a Stripper)", peaked in the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100. After that, he collaborated with fellow rapper E-40 and singer Kandi Burruss on the single "U and Dat", which peaked at number 13 in the United States. In 2007, his second album, titled Epiphany (2007), debuted at number 1 in the United States. The lead single "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" peaked at number 1 in the United States, the follow-up single "Bartender" peaked at number 5, and "Church" was released as the album's third single. During 2007, T-Pain made several guest appearances on songs by other performing artists, the most commercially successful of these being "Low" by Flo Rida, which peaked at number 1 in the United States and on several national singles charts worldwide. In November 2008, T-Pain released his third studio album, Three Ringz which debuted at number 4 in the United States. Three singles were released from the album: "Chopped 'n' Skrewed", "Can't Believe It", and "Freeze". In 2008, T-Pain appeared on several other singles by other performing artists, including "Got Money" by Lil Wayne, "The Boss" by Rick Ross, and "One More Drink" by Ludacris. T-Pain's fourth studio album, Revolver, was released in December 2011. The album was preceded by the release of the promotional singles "Take Your Shirt Off", "Reverse Cowgirl", and "Rap Song", as well as the single "Booty Wurk (One Cheek at a Time)", which attained mixed success on worldwide charts. On May 4, 2011, T-Pain released a mixtape, PrEVOLVEr, in promotion of the album. The first official single from Revolver was "Best Love Song", which features Chris Brown. The album's second single was "5 O'Clock", which features Wiz Khalifa and Lily Allen. The album's third single was "Turn All the Lights On", which features Ne-Yo.

I Got 5 On It

Background/Description (courtesy of allmusic)

The Luniz's Operation Stackola is the group's most accomplished and best-selling LP. Featuring the Oakland-based duo's only major hit, "I Got Five on It," the album drew attention and admiration from other hip-hop artists, but never crossed over into the pop mainstream. The woofer-shaking bassline and eerie bell-like keyboards of "I Got Five on It" made it a hip-hop anthem of the mid-'90s. Since that time, it's been the subject of dozens of covers, the first of which was a reprise on Operation Stackola itself. Nothing else on the album quite lives up to the promise of that hit track, but a number of tracks reveal the group's songwriting potential. Few songs exceed 100 beats per minute, as is true to the Luniz's laid-back, West Coast roots. "Playa Hata" intertwines their drug-laced, gangster trash talking with a soulful R&B feel. The chorus of "Pimps, Playas, and Hustlers" (noticing a trend?) takes a page out of Cypress Hill's nasally vocal repertoire. And the title track starts off with a reggae speed rap, à la Shaggy or Shabba Ranks. There's plenty of filler, but it's still loaded with enough juice to keep the head noddin' for a good half-hour.

Guidelines

This is an open thread for you to share your thoughts on the album. Avoid vague statements of praise or criticism. This is your chance to practice being a critic. It's fine for you to drop by just to say you love the album, but let's try and step it up a bit!!!

How has this album affected hip-hop? WHY do you like this tape? What are the best tracks? Do you think it deserves the praise it gets? Is it the first time you've listened to it? What's your first impression? Have you listened to the artist before? Explain why you like it or why you don't.

DON'T FEEL BAD ABOUT BEING LATE!!!! Discussion throughout the week is encouraged.

Sticky Fingaz of Onyx here: does anyone know how to contact a Queens record store owner named William "The Mayor" Pittman?

Posted: 06 Apr 2018 06:07 AM PDT

What's poppin' y'all??

I didn't do a good job on archiving our unused or early versions of songs. Jam Master Jay (RIP) had a ton of them on DATs. I found out from an MTV news article from 2007 that a Queens record store owner by the name of William "The Mayor" Pittman bought Jay's studio and has everything inside. He mentions finding Onyx DATs: http://www.mtv.com/video-clips/336b0m/jam-master-jay-s-studio-an-exclusive-tour

I couldn't find out which record store he owns or I'd call myself. Also that was in 2007 so his store might not even be in business any more. Does anyone here by any chance know how I can find out what record store he owns? Or how to get a hold of him? I can't find shit for him in regards to social media accounts or anything.

Thank y'all!! ;{

Edit: a lot of y'all been asking for some unreleased shit of ours that we've found in the past and we've always released that shit when we found it! Here's some examples:

The unreleased song with Biggie called "Flip Dat Shit": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1fv3ODq6BQ

The 4 minute version of "Punk motherfukaz" from "All We Got Iz Us" (Jay chopped it down to a 1 minute skit on the album): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vR08-NsIp-0 (unfortunately the only copy we had was Fredro's brother had a cassette deck taping our shit while we worked on it so we only have that one on an old-ass cassette. I would kill for a DAT version!)

Unreleased song called "To All Ya'll Crews, Whatever": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w5lOqLoR50 (I just found this on DAT; I gotta upload that version one day)

"Anything Goes": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud5d36ma22g (this was gonna be a track on Shut Em Down but we couldn't get sample clearances from The Beatles or Hendrix)

We put our shit all over youtube whenever we find it and this will be the same when we find these!!
