If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: "I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye production" (you can get more specific but usually enough). And then someone will respond with recommendations X, Y, and Z.

You can also leave a top level comment recommending an artist/project/scene that you think others might like if they like X, Y, and Z.

Example: "You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats"

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

The more descriptive you guys are with your posts, the easier it is to help you find what you want. Just stating an artist's name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

What is the most recent album that could be considered a classic?

Posted: 25 Feb 2022 03:13 PM PST

The term classic gets tossed around a lot.

In your opinion, which album in recent history is considered a classic? Beyond that, which recent album do you think has the potential to be considered a classic in the future?

Royce da 5’9 on KXNG CROOKED and Joell Ortiz’s new song: “This is the dumbest shit I’ve EVER seen a smart person do.. 2 smart people.. Together… United in stupidity..”

Posted: 25 Feb 2022 03:17 PM PST

Seems like Royce isn't liking Crooked and Joell's new song which highlights some of the issues in Slaughterhouse. Some tweets with his responses:

I loved Slaughterhouse and all their music individually but Royce and Joe always seem to be saying some bullshit. Hopefully it leads to some bars!

RZA's upcoming album, now titled "Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater" is produced by DJ Scratch, is 7 songs, and is coming March 4th

  5. Fate of the World
  6. Fisherman

Rolling Stone:

RZA has teamed up with legendary producer DJ Scratch for his upcoming full-length album, Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater. The long-delayed album, out March 4, takes its name from the Wu-Tang Clan producer's streaming series, Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater with RZA, where he provided running commentary on martial arts movies.

"Lyrically the hip-hop part of me had a chance to re-emerge during quarantine," RZA said in a release. "Giving Scratch the reins as a producer and me taking the reins as an MC, that's what frees me up creatively and lets me play more with lyrical gags and lyrical flows because I don't have to be focused on everything."

Coinciding with the album announcement, the MC released a video for the LP's title track, which he directed alongside Danny Hastings. Paying homage to the kung fu movies that have influenced him for decades, the video finds RZA in a battle of good vs. evil against his futuristic alter-ego Bobby Digital — which, according to the release, is a central theme of Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater.

"It was an honor to produce & executive produce an entire album for a legendary MC, who happens to be one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time," DJ Scratch said. "This album is like a movie. The first track gives you the synopsis of the movie. The beats & the videos we shot will take you back to when you couldn't wait to turn to channel 5 every Saturday at 3pm to watch Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater. I'm proud of this project & I can't wait to perform these songs live."

RZA first teased the album — which was then called RZA vs Bobby Digital — last June.

[DISCUSSION] Lil Uzi Vert - Luv Is Rage 1.5 (5 Years Later)

Posted: 26 Feb 2022 10:43 AM PST

SoundCloud

Luv Is Rage 1.5 is the second extended play by American rapper Lil Uzi Vert. It was independently released on February 26, 2017 via Uzi's SoundCloud as throwaway tracks from his debut album Luv Is Rage 2 (2017). The project includes four tracks – including the single "XO Tour Llif3" which was included later on Luv Is Rage 2 – and features production from Derelle Rideout, DJ Plugg, DP Beats, JW Lucas and TM88.

Background

The four-track project was uploaded exclusively to Lil Uzi Vert's SoundCloud account, with the intention of generating excitement for his following release, Luv Is Rage 2. The EP quickly amassed millions of plays despite not having a commercial release. Most notably the song "XO Tour Llif3" gained significant online attention, resulting in its commercial release as a single and later its inclusion on Luv Is Rage 2.
