What hip hop album gives nostalgia and why

I feel like section 80 from Kendrick Lamar sorts takes back to the 80's era without sounding like it's is from that era honestly

List the times when producers had beef for whatever reason (and may have transpired into rap beef)...

Posted: 07 Feb 2022 02:47 PM PST

Producers freelance and can work with anyone regardless of rappers having beef with one another (like when Scott Storch sold 50 cent the 'candy shop' beat at the height of 50 cent vs Fat Joe because it sounded too much like 'Lean Back' for Fat Joe to take another similar beat, etc), but there are cases when producers have beef

  1. when Pharrell made What Happened To That Boy for Birdman featuring Clipse, Birdman didn't pay Pharrell, which started the whole saga of Clipse vs Cash Money/Lil Wayne and then it became Pusha T vs Drake

  2. when alchemist initially shopped around for the "we gon make it" beat, Ras Kass had it too but Jadakiss made it a hit and Ras Kass ended up using the same beat for "home sweet home" https://www.mtv.com/news/1443801/alchemist-responds-to-claims-of-double-dealing/ Nas then got involved and defended Alchemist by dissing Ras Kass on Alchemist's "Book of Rhymes" beat referring to Ras Kass first album "Soul on ice", and it eventually got squashed when Ras Kass sampled Nas on "Medusa"

  3. Mixtape DJs always had beef with unnamed other Mixtape DJs that make fake compilations instead of 'real' mixtapes, whatever that means

  4. There are several cases of sample stealing or beat stealing where for example

    a. when the Beatnuts made "watch out now" in 1999 and then the Trackmasters swooped in and made a bigger hit with the same sample with "jenny on the block", which lead to several diss songs about jlo from the beatnuts https://www.whosampled.com/sample/241/Jennifer-Lopez-Jenny-From-the-Block-The-Beatnuts-Watch-Out-Now/

    b. when T-Minus allegedly stole the same sample loop for Lil Wayne's "She Will" from Gramz' "I Have Arrived", which was released a couple months earlier https://theurbandaily.com/1479875/lil-wayne-jim-guthrie-gramz-she-will/

    c. when Kanye allegedly stole the instrumental AND album cover from a mixtape DJ named The Architect for NASIR given that Kanye had to make at least 29 beats for 4 albums within a month's span for that 4-album roll out https://www.complex.com/music/2018/07/did-kanye-and-nas-steal-beat-album-cover-from-the-architect

[DISCUSSION] Syd - Fin (5 Years Later)

Posted: 07 Feb 2022 09:00 AM PST

Fin is the debut studio album by American R&B singer Syd). It was released on February 3, 2017, by Columbia Records.

Background

After Ego Death), the members of the Internet) decided that they would venture on solo projects to flesh out their individual styles. When speaking about what the album would entail, Syd stated:

"This album is not that deep, but I feel like this is my descent into the depth I want the band to get to...For me, this is like an in-between thing — maybe get a song on the radio, maybe make some money, have some new shit to perform."

The album has a more pop-influenced feel in comparison to her output with the Internet. However, Syd states that she has always been influenced by pop, and that the album is inspired by popular artists from her time, including Usher) and Brandy. Influences of trap) also appear throughout, most notably on the single "All About Me".

How does this compare to the Internet? Or to the solo work of Steve Lacy or Matt Martians? Do you like Syd's 2020 singles more or less?
