mods: last time i posted about this it reached the sub front page, so i wanted to give an update on things i've changed based on people's feedback!

A few weeks ago, I posted about my program that filters out rap from Spotify's New Releases feed into a separate auto-updating playlist. Yall really showed up, so I wanted to give a quick update:

  • I changed the name from Rap Daily to Rap Weekly. The name was overselling it because even if we check daily, most releases still come out on Friday…I apologize for that.
  • Rap Weekly always uses the explicit versions now, even when Spotify messes up and features the clean one. (s/o to /u/fungitup for reporting this)
  • Rap Weekly now factors artist popularity into sorting. We've always sorted by release date first, then popularity. But we were only looking at track popularity, which is how Lil Wayne got placed below Tyla Yahweh (no disrespect).

As always, I'm open to any feedback or questions—I just added K-pop, J-pop, and J-rock per /u/leomejia's request, on top of the R&B/indie/EDM/latin/pop we already had. If you liked this project, you can sign up to get an email when I release something new!
