Today we'll be listening to Mixtape Messiah 3 by Chamillionaire

Background

Before mixtape was a buzzword your favourite artist uses to dodge quality expectations it held weight as an under the radar drop with rough drafts, uncleared sample usage or complete beat jackings where people would still go in. A fair amount of people here I'm sure are well aware of the volume of quality content hid under this category, your Waynes, your Guccis, your Curren$ys, but someone who was very prominent in this scene who I always feel was overlooked was Chamillionaire, a once promising star of the South, labelled by the ignorant as a one hit wonder, Cham would take the most popular songs of the year by your favourite artists, chew the beats up and spit out a collection of fantastic remixes.

I picked this specific one not because it was the first one that came to mind but I think it has some of the most notable takeovers from the Mixtape Messiah series in one collection, namely; Renegade, Can't Tell Me Nothing, Stronger, and International Player's Anthem to name a few. Sandwiching a disappointing album in Ultimate Victory with this and Mixtape Messiah 4 I really believe that this is one of the highest points of Chamillionaire's career before he left for Silicon Valley.

Not exactly hip hop, but definitely an influence on the genre. Get yo Prince on boys, while he rolls in his grave. Purple Rain and 1999 arent the only pieces of work he has, early work such as Controversy is amazing.
