If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Hey Hiphop heads I need your help

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 09:58 PM PDT

My brother in law was 16 years old and recently passed away. I'm trying to curate a playlist for his celebration of life.

His mom would like a playlist of music he liked to play, but something appropriate for all his country loving family.

He listened to a mix of the following:

Suicide boys Lil peep Post Malone Logic Sampha G-easy Joey bada$$ Danny brown Rich homie Quan

I know a bit of songs to play and while he was in the hospital he had the most reaction to the new kid cudi album. I'm looking for some chill tunes by these artists and similar ones that would be respectful to celebrate his life with.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks team

[DISCUSSION] Is it Possible That Kanye and G.O.O.D Music's Seven Song Surgical Summer Series Supply Seven?

Posted: 16 Jun 2018 07:43 PM PDT

The Surgical Summer Series has impressed me. I have enjoyed Ye's production and lyricism for a long time now and this series has delivered both. Nas' project dropping today was wonderful, but its sad to imagine that come next friday, Teyanna Taylor's album will drop and it will be over.

Or will it? I believe in something bigger. I think Drake's Scorpion project dropping on the 29th (The Friday following Teyanna's aforementioned album drop) is indicative of something bigger. To properly paint you a picture, allow me to give you some background information.

The relationship between OVO and G.O.O.D music is where it all gets complicated. As many of you know, Drake has expressed through a few of his songs a distaste for the president of G.O.O.D Label, Pusha T.

In the song "Two birds, One stone", Released prior to Drakes most recent full project "More Life", Drake implies that Pusha is romanticizing his tales about being a drug dealer, and on his new project DAYTONA, Pusha fired back with the closing track "Infrared".

He revives the accusation brought to light for many during Drake's beef with Meek Mill, of ghostwriting, among many other things. I could never express the shots Pusha T takes at Drake as well as he does on the track so I strongly recommend that you listen if you're interested.

Immediately following the release of infrared, Drake dropped a track called "Duppy freestyle" that aimed back at Pusha, but more importantly fired a few shots at the CEO of G.O.O.D music and the orchestrator and producer of the album series i have become so fond of, Kanye West. I personally thought it was a scorching diss track at the time, and assumed this beef would end with Drake on top, like it did with Meek's beef. I didn't know at the time and neither did Drake that dropping "Duppy Freestyle" was a decision Drake would come to regret making.

It was as if Pusha had planned it, and Drake played right into his hand. The diss track "Story of Adidon" was released, and Drakes career would never be the same. If you're a regular on this thread then you have followed all this information and saw Drake get bodied live and none of this is interesting you so far but please bare with me.

The Story of Adidon was released and brought to light a lot of things going on in Drake's personal life that hadn't yet received media attention, and demolished drake's lyricism in "duppy freestyle". I myself am a pretty big Drake fan and was heartbroken upon discovering the track, but I found myself bumping along to the story of Adidon regardless.

Over the course of the beef, drake released the song "I'm upset" which felt like to me essentially a personal acknowledgment of the issues brought to light by Pusha's diss, and left me wondering what would happen next? Surely Drake had to fire back.

Silence. Nothing has come from drake but one line from duppy "Don't push me when I'm in album mode" Sheds some insights into what Drake may be focusing on.

What left me kindof confused the whole time was the relationship that has existed and exists between Drake and Kanye. They have been friends for a long time and talk of a collaborative project between the two of them has been discussed frequently by fans of Drake and Kanye alike, and has been discussed by the two artists for years. In the song infrared, pusha has a line discussing kanye's role in the beef. "At the mercy of a game where the codes is missing//When the CEO's blinded by the glow its different".

Kanye is the CEO referenced in the song, and his friendship with drake is apparent, Even Pusha knows and recognizes this. (Mercy is also a song prod. by ye that features pusha, and "glow" is the most recent collaboration between Kanye and Drake.) Drake and Kanye have been friends and collaborators for a very long time.

Now that this is established, Don't you find it interesting that Kanye would let Pusha take shots at his friend like that? I guess creative control is just creative control, but consider Kanye for a moment. I know everyone by this time is privy to some of the tweets made by Kanye discussing his views on politics and slavery, and there is no way i'm the only one jumping to the conclusion that he is just marketing via Political Controversy.

What if all of this beef is just viral marketing to introduce more projects into the G.O.O.D. Music's 7 song collaboration style? Personally I would be shocked if "Scorpion" doesn't feature at the very least some stings aimed at pusha, and i'm sure pusha is prepared for and can handle a feud. I know outside influences like J Prince and Kanye have asked that the beef stop, but Drake has done a whole lot more over a whole lot less.

At the end of the day, Kanye and Drake are much bigger names in the hip hop industry today than Pusha, despite the success of DAYTONA. I could see a hard hitting seven song collaboration between Kanye and Drake closing out the G.O.O.D. music series, and following Scorpion. Not to mention it was reported that drake was in Wyoming working on music with Kanye just recently. OVO Is the only blockade I can see in the way, and being that Drake heads the label, its not much of an obstacle, and he has had similar short split collaborations with artists like future and producers like metro boomin' so it would not be a stretch of the imagination for either party.

If you took the time to read this through, thank you and I would love to hear any thoughts you have with regard to any part of this posting, after all it is a discussion!
