Former Donda's House heavy affiliate exposes Rhymefest exploiting the org. for clout chasing

I know this sub isn't just another place for tea and petty gossip but Rhymefest is a somewhat notable rapper in the context of early 2000s, for people within the culture. And Kanye of course needs no descriptor other than his name for me to get the point across. I feel as this is a situation important to the rappers themselves, and the Chicago artistically talented youth formerly and currently affiliated with Donda's House.

Turkish rapper Ezhel just arrested over lyrics "promoting drug use". Gov threatens him w/ 5 years in prison.

Posted: 27 May 2018 12:15 PM PDT

Ezhel - one of the most famous rappers in Turkey - just relased his debut Müptezhel (Junkie) last year, and since then he is killin the whole Turkish rap scene and charts with 577,683 followers on Spotify.

Ezhel was detained by narcotics police in Istanbul late Thursday and was later charged with encouraging the use of drugs, he could face a five-year prison term for encouraging the use of drugs in his song lyrics and video clips.

His arrest led to a social media campaign by supporters, with many users calling for his release using the hashtag "FreeEzhel." Ezhel's manager Riza Okcu said: "FreeEzhel, writing a song cannot be a crime - the government should arrest the real criminals. Rap music tells the truth about what happens in the streets."

Album Review of DAYTONA by Pusha T

Posted: 27 May 2018 06:40 PM PDT

Direct Link

Album Review: DAYTONA

Pusha T's third effort is a bold and triumphant antithesis to contemporary music.

Whitney's pain.

When Kanye announced via Twitter in late-April that Pusha T's long-awaited album would be dropping May 25th, there was both excitement and skepticism. It wasn't just the controversy surrounding Ye at the time but also the fact that fans had been teased with a new Pusha album since 2013 but left empty handed*. Inclusively, no singles or any attempt at marketing had really been employed for the album.

It wasn't until days leading up to the release did Pusha and his team confirm that the album was indeed dropping and that its title had been changed from KING PUSH to DAYTONA. The other aspect of the record that was confirmed was the 7-song tracklist. Initial response was a bit of wary and disappointment as many fans felt they were being shorthanded after such a long wait. Regardless, it seemed the wait was finally over and fans were ready to be served up a fresh project from the GOOD Music camp.

In a swift and ruthless 20-minutes, DAYTONA slaughters the contemporary music landscape in a fashion that would leave Genghis Khan in awe.

In the current market where the focus is accumulating the highest streams possible, many artists are engaging what has been dubbed "data dumping". This is when an artist releases an album with 18–25 songs in order to loophole the system. It's basic mathematics — an 18-track album is going to get more stream counts than a 10-track album. This lends to record-breaking stream reports but says nothing about the actual quality of the album. Ultimately, these data dumps are the equivalent of a significantly photoshopped and filtered Instagram model.

DAYTONA goes defiantly against the market. A 7-track album that clocks in at a scant 20-minutes, a decision influenced by Mr. West who also produced the album from top to bottom. Ye convinced Push to commit to the daring move under the belief that "if we can't kill you in seven songs, we really don't need to be doing the music." It was quality over quantity. Cut all the fat out and deliver the leanest work of art possible.

From the opening track "If You Know You Know" to its closer "Infared", DAYTONA is a carefully crafted wave of ferocity harboring a blitzkrieg of laser sharp raps backed by what is arguably Ye's most expertise production.

Pusha explained that its title represents the "luxury of time" — he can create art at his pace with no mandatory label deadlines to meet. It's also a direct reference to Rolex Daytona watches, which of course are luxury brand watches. The other aspect of this luxury concept is its minimalist presentation, high-end cost (in regards to the samples and artwork), and maximized experience— it may be a 6oz piece of steak, but it's filet mignon cooked up by a Michelin star chef.

Every fiber of DAYTONA is given pristine attention; not a single rhyme or sonic movement is delivered without conviction. The sample-heavy production is mean and lean, moving from track-to-track in sleek jolts. If one could correlate that with imagery, it's like Barry Sanders in his prime juking through defensive lines with disgusting ease. In many cases, it almost seems as if Kanye had Push rap acapella then constructed the beats around his vocal performance. It's that seamless.

The song structures play to no contemporary standard or formula but never feel disjointed or messy. Even with obstructive transitions (within and between songs) the overarching groove keeps things airtight. The sonic landscape of DAYTONA is a hybrid of the strongest aspects of Yeezus and The Life of Pablo. Much like Ye needed to experiment with Graduation and 808s & Heartbreak to elevate his production, the aforementioned were necessary to do the same on this project.

Lyrically, it's Push's greatest hits on steroids. The coke raps are there of course and they're home runs but the album offers a lot more nuance and poignant moments than Pusha T gets credit for. "Santeria" for example, Pusha raps with enraged sadness on the murder of his road manager De'Von Picket

Darken my doorstep, they told me the day's gone

You listening, De'von?

As I'm talking to your spirit, for God's sake

I'm dealing with heartbreak

DAYTONA maintains daunting consistency with quality rhymes that cover a range of topics, themes, and beliefs in organized fashion. What makes Pusha's rhymes rather remarkable is his ability to hit with gut punches and feverish imagery such as on "Baby Come Back" when he remarks on climbing the ladder to success high enough to see "complexions fade".

Lastly, the cover art. Upon its unveiling it unsurprisingly garnered a lot of attention and controversy. It wasn't because Kanye paid $85,000 cash for the licensing fee, it was the fact that it was a photograph of Whitney Houston's drug riddled bathroom in her Beverly Hills home at the peak of her crack addiction. A lot can be taken from the imagery and according to Push, Kanye stated that "this [the photo] is what people need to see to go along with this music." And after several listens it makes sense.

Crack has terrifying staying power once it infiltrates someone's life and it doesn't discriminate despite its urban prejudices. When taking a step back and examining everything that surrounds the photo, it's quite an awakening. On the outside is an affluent Beverly Hills home but on the inside is a catastrophe of pain. At its soul is a Diva beloved by many. The cover art is all encompassing of what DAYTONA embodies — brutal and beautiful. This is what people need to look at when listening to this album.

*Push T released an album in 2015 as a prelude to KING PUSH but wasn't seen as a serious release/follow-up by many fans.

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Look through past posts here

ALSO please check out this thread for a list of some of the most popular recommendation requests and the suggestions provided

Brockhampton is performing at Boston Calling right now without Ameer

Posted: 26 May 2018 03:50 PM PDT

I'm at Boston Calling right now and BH came out without Ameer. Every time he would normally have a verse, everyone stops and they just play the beat with no one else filling in. This shit is painful.

EDIT: wtf I think Joba is crying now? Wtf is happening send help

EDIT 2: JUNKY was the last song. Dom cut his verse halfway and walked off stage shaking his head. Kevin said goodbye and they left. This was the most awkward and painful concert I've ever seen. Shambles.

EDIT 3: here is a video of everyone on stage staying silent That was wild. I understand why they chose to handle this situation this way, but at the same time I would really appreciate if they would just give people an update about what's going on. They all seemed pretty fucking bummed out on stage, especially when it would normally be Ameer's verse. Merlyn was still lit though.

Rhymefest on Twitter: Asks Drake for help to rebuild Kanye's mother's house for Chicago, claims Kanye said ''Fuck the youth of Chicago''

Posted: 26 May 2018 09:29 AM PDT

Screenshots of Tweets: https://imgur.com/a/xVLNjKE

''I'm asking @Drake to help the part of Chicago Kanye has Abandoned! Please contact @DondasHouse''

''when G.O.O.D. Music sends the money they owe you, will you please help us rebuild Kanye's mothers house for the youth of Chicago. I spoke to Kanye about it. His response was "fuck the youth of Chicago"

''#BlackSlaveMasters''

EDIT: Kim Kardashian claps back at Rhymefest

''U haven't been right since u got kicked out of the studio in Hawaii wearing fake Yeezy's @RHYMEFEST 😂 You're over levergenging Kanye's name & asked Kanye to donate money to u so stop w your fake community politics & lies. Truth is you haven't been able to sustain the foundation''

''I saw you at our studio a few weeks ago so why didn't you bring this up then @RHYMEFEST ? You were trying to get Kanye to listen to your sub par beats. You have the audacity to use Kanye's mom name to try to shead a negative light on Kanye.''

''You didn't say this when Kanye paid you up front then you disappeared during Pablo #RealFriends @RHYMEFEST''

''Fuck i spelled leveraging wrong. Typing while pissed will do this to you 😂'' (Highly relevant)

''You better believe I will make it my mission to take Donda's House from you and let my children run it the way it should be run! @RHYMEFEST''

''Oh and lastly your flight cancelled to Wyoming. You thought you were really worthy to be on this album 😂😂😂''

''Sorry to all of my followers for flooding my timeline I know you have no idea who Rhymefest is.''

Screenshot of the thread: https://imgur.com/a/2XTVEcP

EDIT: Rhymefest responds to Kim

''Hey @KimKardashian good to hear from you. Here's my response''

Response is a photo, but I have it typed out here:
''Dear Kim Kardashian-West,

I don't care if no one on your timeline knows who I am. The people in my community and in my city do, and that's what truly matters to me.

Your husband and I have been in correspondence for the last two months, which as you stated, even you saw me in the studio recently.

Kanye, asked me if I would come help him with his album again. I wasn't seeking Kanye... he was seeking me. I spoke to your husband about peace, and balance, as well as about the work that we have been doing in Chicago regarding Donda's House. He was more interested in his record.

Understand that the mission of Donda's House has always been the value of collaboration, community and empowering youth to pursue their creative goals and dreams. What part about that would make it worthy of you or anyone else destroying it? Speak to the 500+ youth that we've worked with!

Show up to the upcoming audition that we have scheduled for yougn people to perofrm at festivals this upcoming Friday. Foot the bill as we have done, for youth to record or contact more of your famous friends to actually come and sit down with youth.

How can you criticize an organization that you've never physically been to OR that you've never even talked to the Executive Director or any of the team. And lastly, I actually knew and was mentored by Dr. Donda West personally, and have met with and spoke to hundreds of her students and mentees who not only support the work that we are doing in Chicago, but compel it.

At this is point, if you and Kanye want us to dissolve the organization so that you can do the work, we welcome that. As we will continue from our home on the South Side of Chicago, to do what we can to support the community we've worked five years to build in spite of you & Kanye's lack of interest or support. You have been not privy to the conversations that we've had, the emails that have been sent, and frankly the positive press that Kanye has received as a result of our work. I encourage you instead of attacking me personally, to google us, watch videos on our YouTube channel featuring our work and come actually speak to the young people who have been involved in our program before you, in your position of privilege from God knows where in the world, via social media attempt to dismantle this valued comunity asset.

You and your team kno how to get in contact with me, and we are awaiting your decision, because our community will be ok, regardless.

Sincerly,
Che ''Rhymefest'' Smith ''

Screenshot of text in photo: https://imgur.com/a/Z9fLr7R

Lupe Fiasco adds his two cents

''Donda's House puts in work. Period. Salute to @RHYMEFEST & his wife.
Everybody does their part for the city in the ways that they can and are capable against the odds
@DondasHouse is a piece of the pie trying to make sure the city stay fed.
Lupe & @WeAreMURAL approved! 💪🏾''
