Aaliyah is the third and final studio album by American R&B singer Aaliyah. It was released on July 7, 2001, by Blackground Records and Virgin Records America. Because of its packaging design, it is also known as "The Red Album".

Aaliyah is an R&B and neo soul record whose music draws from funk, hip hop, alternative rock, and electronica, among other styles. The album's producers incorporated synthesizer melodies, fragmented beats, distorted guitar, and eccentrically manipulated vocals and song structures. Much of Aaliyah dealt with the complexities of romantic love and different stages in a relationship. Most of the songs were written by lyricist Static Major, who shared a close friendship and strong rapport with Aaliyah. She viewed the album as a reflection of herself as both a young adult and a matured vocalist.

Aaliyah received highly positive reviews from critics and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, but sold diminishingly afterwards. When Blackground and Virgin wanted a high-charting single to increase the album's sales, Aaliyah shot a music video for the song "Rock the Boat" in the Bahamas, but died in a plane crash on a return flight to the United States on August 25. After her death, sales of the album greatly increased and led it to the top of the Billboard 200, eventually reaching 2.6 million copies sold in the US. Aaliyah was released during a period of peak activity in contemporary R&B and, since its initial reception, has been cited by critics as one of the best R&B records of its time.

On this day 5 years ago, Schoolboy Q dropped his fourth studio album called Blank Face. The production was handled by various high-profile record producers, including Swizz Beatz, Metro Boomin and Southside, as well as frequent collaborators Nez & Rio, The Alchemist, DJ Dahi and members of TDE in-house production team, Digi+Phonics. Blank Face LP was preceded by a series of short films, which also served as respective corresponding music videos.

Commercial performance wise Blank Face LP debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, with 74,000 album-equivalent units with 52,000 copies coming from pure album sales in its first week. It was the highest selling album in its debut week. Blank Face LP is Schoolboy Q's second top five album on the Billboard 200, and follows his number one debuting Oxymoron effort in 2014 which sold 139,000 copies in its first week. In its second week, the album dropped to number 10 on the Billboard 200, earning 28,000 album-equivalent units that week. On June 8, 2018, the album was certified gold by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for combined sales and album-equivalent units of over 500,000 units in the United States.

Overall, this is my favorite album by Schoolboy Q to date. Liked every song from start to finish, what are you thoughts on this album ?
