Hip Hop and Rap has been the dominant genre in the US for the past few years, dominating the streaming charts across Apple and Spotify. Outside of a few artists who achieve higher streams on Youtube (such as NBA Youngboy), most Western artists achieve higher numbers on audio streaming services in comparison to YouTube, particularly in contrast with South American or Asian artists, which tend to perform better on the video streaming giant.

With this context in mind, one interesting subject that has perplexed some is the immense streaming performance of Future and Drake's "Life is Good" collab. Its currently at 1.9 billion views just 1 year and 4 months after release. But after a whole year of stable high numbers, its current daily streaming count has significantly decreased.

"After experiencing a sudden drop in views a week ago, the "Life Is Good" music video has stabilized to around 450K global views per day, down from the 3-4+ million it consistently earned each day since its release."

For comparison, "God's Plan" has 1.2 billion after 3 years, "Hotline Bling" has 1.7 billion views after 5 years and "Work" with Rihanna has 1.1 billion after 5 years. For Future, his next best viewed works are "Low Life" ft. Weeknd (667M views after 5 years) and "Mask Off" at 479M views after 4 years.

I know for some chart watchers this incredible discrepancy between the video and its streaming count (Spotify's numbers are 738M, nothing to scoff at though) always raised some questions, particularly when music video views for Western artists on a whole are not as prominent as they used to be, which makes sense given the rise of audio streaming subscriptions.

I guess my point is, what exactly caused this song to get nearly 2 billion views so quickly? Is it just the autoplay feature or the algorithm at play, some under-the-table label deals in promotion, bots or is it something else? It is undeniable the song was/is a massive hit, yet its sheer success on YouTube over other streaming services is a bit of a mystery.

Street Sermons is the debut commercial mixtape by American rapper Morray. It was released on April 28, 2021 by Pick Six Records.

Background

On April 16, 2021, Morray announced that he signed to Interscope, in partnership with Pick Six. His manager, Moe Shalizi spoke about the partnership, saying "there was so much synergy between our side and Interscope that it just felt right, we are really excited to be working with John Janick and the rest of the team." In an interview, Morray described the album, saying "I really want it to show more of my story and for people to get to know me more. I want it to be like, 'I listened to this and I understand why he does this.' This is supposed to be my reference to who I really am."

[DISCUSSION] Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part Two (10 Years Later)

Hot Sauce Committee Part Two is the eighth and final studio album by American hip hop band Beastie Boys, released on May 3, 2011, through Capitol Records. The project was originally planned to be released in two parts, with Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1 originally planned for release in 2009. The release was delayed after band member Adam "MCA" Yauch was diagnosed with cancer. After a two-year delay, only one collection of tracks, Part Two, was released and the plan for a two-part album was eventually abandoned in light of Yauch's death on May 4, 2012.

The album received critical acclaim upon its release, with critics praising the energetic rapping, experimental production, and disregard for contemporary hip hop trends. It also had a positive commercial performance, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. The release was supported by four singles – "Lee Majors Come Again", "Too Many Rappers" featuring Nas, "Make Some Noise", and "Don't Play No Game That I Can't Win" featuring Santigold.

Background

The album was previously known by the working title Tadlock's Glasses, which was stated to be a reference to a former bus driver named Tadlock, who used to drive for Elvis Presley's back-up singers. Presley once gave Tadlock a pair of glasses which he was proud of. It was later speculated that the Tadlock's Glasses story was simply a joke misinterpreted by the media.

A large amount of material was recorded, and the plan was to release the album, now called Hot Sauce Committee, in two parts as the Beastie Boys revealed to Drowned in Sound. Regarding the structure of the album, Yauch stated, "It's a combination of playing and sampling stuff as we're playing, and also sampling pretty obscure records. There are a lot of songs on the record and there are a lot of short songs and they kind of all run into each other." A commentary track included with the Check Your Head re-release mentions that Bob Dylan would appear on the album.

Part 1

The first part of the album was intended to be called Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1 and was prepared for release, with artwork revealed and a planned release date of September 15, 2009. In an interview the Beastie Boys stated that the album was completed and group announced that they would tour the United Kingdom in support of the new record. This was delayed after Adam "MCA" Yauch was diagnosed with cancer. On July 20, 2009, Yauch announced the cancellation of tour dates, and assured fans that he should be fine after surgery. In October 2009, Adam Yauch announced that the band had not yet decided a new release date, but was quoted saying he was hoping to release it in the first half of 2010.

Drowned in Sound also gave a review of the first part on 28, June 2009, the same time they did the interview with the Beastie Boys for the album. It features most of the tracks which appeared on Part Two in a different order with the additional skit "Bundt Cake" which was described as "Another skit, this time a mere 21 seconds over a crisp drum break with snatches of cyber vocals".

Part 2

An email sent out on October 17, 2010, from the Beastie Boys announced that Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1 would be shelved indefinitely, and Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 would be released in 2011. An email sent the following week now clarified that Pt. 2 would be released with almost exactly the same track list as was announced for Pt. 1, excluding the track "Bundt Cake." No date was set for Part 1. The project was finally released in May 2011 under the title Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, with a slightly altered track listing including a new version of "Too Many Rappers".

According to Andrew Eastwick from Tiny Mix Tapes, "Long Burn the Fire" paid homage to the 1970s soul-rock band Black Merda with its fuzz-inflected guitar riffs. Its song title, Eastwick continued, "may also be a sly nod" to music critic Robert Christgau, who recommended the band's 1972 record of the same name to the Beastie Boys in his review of their 1994 album Ill Communication.

The fact that these guys, in their mid 40's, one suffering from cancer, still put out an album of this quality and pure energy shows just how amazing they really were.

Too Many Rappers is the standout track for me, mainly because they pushed Nas to his limit - it's like the anti-"Oochie Wally" - and the line "Oh my god, just look at me, Grandpa's been rappin' since '83". Here's A Little Something For Ya and Nonstop Disco Power Pack could easily fit right at home on Hello Nasty with the flawless pass the mic routines. Lee Majors Come Again is an amazing Check Your Head style punk-rock roots throwback.

Low point is Don't Play No Game because I'm not a big Santigold fan and the whole thing sounds like it was recorded underwater so it's really hard to hear the rhymes. They also put a lot of just random snippets that are complete filler.

Other than that it's such a solid album from these guys that gives a little bit of everything they have done across a career that spanned 3 decades. Power to Ad-Rock, MCA, and Mike D.

Such a good fucking album. The best thing about the Beastie Boys, was how consistent they were, up til the end. This, IMO, is their third best after Paul's Boutique and Hello Nasty. The way they just evolve their sound album after album is so fucking incredible. I could go on and on, but I can't think of many other groups with as much talent as the Beasties. RIP MCA.

Hot Sauce Committee Part II by the Beastie Boys was my first Beastie Boy's album and helped me fall farther in love with Hip-Hop and introduced me into one of my favorite MC's, Nas.

The rhymes the BBoys spit on this album are some of my favorite. I feel like they never miss a beat and are just as witty and clever as their past work. But what made me fall in love the most with this album is the production. The experimental beats on songs like Say It, Long Burn the Fire, Heres' a Little Somethin' For Ya and Too Many Rappers are just some examples of how good the production is on this album..

Is it their best work? Of course not, but it's a great way to go out and has a very memorable place in my heart. Also, you definitely should check out the Fight For Your Right (Revisited) video if you haven't already.

This is really underrated. I think it stacks up to their older work and the production is crazy. Pop the Balloon is my favorite track on it. Just a fun album from beginning to end.

Goblin is the debut studio album by Tyler, the Creator. It was released on May 10, 2011, by XL Recordings. Goblin continues Tyler's dialogues with his fictional therapist Dr. TC, first heard on his 2009 mixtape, Bastard. The album's songs were produced almost entirely by Tyler himself, along with a contribution from fellow Odd Future member Left Brain. The album features guest appearances from Odd Future members Frank Ocean, Hodgy Beats, Jasper Dolphin, Taco, Domo Genesis, Mike G and Syd. The album cover features Buffalo Bill at age 19.

Goblin continues the horrorcore subject matter first displayed on Bastard. Fictional therapist, Dr. TC, appears throughout the album. The second track, "Yonkers", features a gritty beat with a large bass sound, reminiscent of the production of Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA. Tyler claims to have made the instrumental in eight minutes as a parody of New York City beats. The third track, "Radicals", talks about youthful rebellion. The chorus contains the chanted lines "Kill people, burn shit, fuck school", which was previously used by Tyler on Earl Sweatshirt's song "Pigions" from his 2010 mixtape, Earl. Pranav Trewn of Stereogum commented on the song, stating " It isn't an anthem of retaliation, but rather self-immolation; you have to purge everything else to discover what's left of yourself". "Bitch Suck Dick" is an over-the-top trap parody featuring stereotypical misogynistic lyrics from Jasper Dolphin and Taco, similar to Bastard's "Tina" and Wolf's "Trashwang". On the album's final track, "Golden", it's revealed that Dr. TC is just Tyler's conscience, and everyone he was interacting with were a figment of his imagination.

1017 rapper Foogiano gets 5 years for cutting off ankle monitor, violating probation

A Greene County Superior Court judge ordered rap artist Foogiano to spend five years in prison after he pleaded guilty Monday to cutting off his ankle monitor last December in violation of his probation.

The monitor was found on a roadside in Barrow County, and Foogiano, whose given name is Kwame Khalil Brown, disappeared until his arrest March 11 in Memphis, Tenn.

"He's very talented and we hope this doesn't affect his career in the long or short term," said Norcross attorney Brandon Lewis, who represented Brown at the sentencing in Greene County Superior Court.

[Foogiano] had been released from jail in Greene County in December on a $50,000 bond after a probation-violation charge was filed following his arrest in Barrow County on a charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

[Foogiano] was accused of violating the terms of his bond when he removed the ankle monitor and left the state without permission, according to the probation-revocation document filed in Greene County.

Agents with the U.S. Marshal's Office located [Foogiano] in Tennessee, where the fugitive attended a funeral for the brother of his friend, fellow rapper Pooh Shiesty.

"The marshals were there, actually at the funeral," Lewis said. "They could have arrested him at the funeral, but out of respect for the family they didn't. They waited until the funeral was over."

Lewis explained to the court the reason why his client took the action he did in December.

[Foogiano] was released on the $50,000 bond because he wanted to attend the birth of his son, who was due in the next several days, according to Lewis.

Once [Foogiano] was released, he learned of a possible warrant out for him in Athens-Clarke County, Lewis said.

"Essentially, he was met with a decision. Do I turn myself in and risk not getting another bond or do I be there for the birth of my child. So that's why he chose to do it. He wanted to be there for his son," Lewis said.

From when he was wanted:

[Foogiano] was released Dec. 14 from the Greene County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond on a charge that he violated his probation for a previous burglary conviction, according to a report in The Herald-Journal of Greensboro.

A Barrow County sheriff's deputy stopped Brown's 2006 Chrysler 300 for a faulty brake light and windows that were tinted too dark. A Greensboro man was driving the car and Brown was passenger in the back seat, deputies said. After smelling marijuana, deputies conducted a search and located a Glock 19 9mm pistol with an attached Viridian laser light near where Brown was seated, according to the report.

Deputies also located a "large sum" of cash, but the amount was not disclosed in the report.

After it was determined that [Foogiano] was a convicted felon, he was questioned and "he said he is a famous rapper and must have a gun because rappers get shot."

The driver, a woman from Mississippi and another Greensboro man in the car were all allowed to leave. The driver also had a gun, but he was not barred from possessing the weapon, according to the report.

After Brown later appeared Dec. 14 in Greene County Superior Court for violating terms of his probation, he was released on the cash bond, according to the Herald-Journal.

Brown was ordered to stay in Georgia and wear an ankle monitor, but later that evening a Georgia Department of Community Service officer received notice that the monitor was being tampered with. It was later located on the side of a highway in Barrow County with the straps appearing "melted off," according to the Herald-Journal.
