OPINION: Hip Hop static sound

Posted: 20 Sep 2020 11:04 PM PDT

I miss the 'crackle' in the background of hip hop music. Gives it that eastcoast live in the park, underground sound. No love without hate by Sunz of Man is a perfect example.

[DISCUSSION] Jack Harlow - Confetti (1 Year Later)

Posted: 20 Sep 2020 09:28 PM PDT

Today marks the 1 year anniversary of Jack Harlow's mixtape "Confetti". This project marked Jack's second full-length release on DJ Drama's Atlantic Records imprint "Generarion Now."

This project put Jack on the map with the at the time, relatively hot song "THRU THE NIGHT" featuring fellow Louisville artist Bryson Tiller.

Almost exactly four months after the release of "Confetti" Harlow dropped his near-chart topping, now multi-platinum hit "WHATS POPPIN" on January 21st, 2020. To add to notable accomplishments since "Confetti," Jack has recently been recognized as a 2020 XXL Freshman.

Confetti marks a pivotal point in Harlow's career as more and more people began to tune in to his music, and as Generation Now began to really push his music and Harlow as an artist within the industry. Along with this release, many people across the internet, including on this sub began to reject Harlow and his style for being corny/shallow/generic/bland/etc. Shortly after "WHATS POPPIN" however, many people began to again warmup to Harlow.

I personally liked this project a lot. I was a huge fan of "Loose," but really started to put everyone onto Jack after this project. To me, the evolution from "Loose" to "Confetti" was immense. Jack continued to perfect his rap craft and really made some slick, clean, hard hitting songs on here. Fav tracks for me: ICE, BIG CHILLIN, THRU THE NIGHT, WALK IN THE PARK, HEAVY HITTER, RIVER ROAD.

This all said... here's some points for discussion...

  • How has your opinion of Harlow changed since "Confetti" and/or "WHATS POPPIN?"

  • How does this project rank in Harlow's discography? Fav songs? Still in your rotation?

  • How long do you think Harlow will last in the industry? Will Jack Harlow be a one hit wonder with "WHATS POPPIN" or did "Confetti" set a high precedent for full-length projects from Jack?

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Look through past posts here

ALSO please check out this thread for a list of some of the most popular recommendation requests and the suggestions provided

Kanye West's Favorite Rapper — Former Bad Boy Star Ma$e — Is Now Demanding An Apology Of His Own

Posted: 19 Sep 2020 04:47 AM PDT

In a post on Friday, Ma$e called Kanye out for being a hypocrite. Comparing Ye's fight to his the same one he's been fighting for years: "#kanyewest much of what you are feeling has been expressed before," he began. "But when I was saying it, the same system and mindset that you are fighting against today, used you to shame me for leaving the very same system! #Remember, your famous line "Don't leave when you hot [that's how Mase screwed up]"? I know today you may see it very differently so… You owe me (and my family) a public #apology and then some, if anyone owes you one. For alluding to the fact that me following God at the height of my career was a bad decision."

MEEK MILL VS YOUNG THUG

Posted: 19 Sep 2020 09:28 PM PDT

I am a fan of both Meek Mill, and Young Thug. My friends and I were arguing about who is a better rapper, and who has a better body of work (discography). I claimed Meek had a better body of work and is a better "rapper". I want to know what everyone thinks. He also claimed its much easier to go through a Young Thug album without skipping any songs than it is with Meek, which I also disagree.

Let me know what you guys think!

*I know they are different styles but who do you think is better?*
