Joe Budden is taking his podcast off Spotify because the company ‘is pillaging’ his audience

Posted: 26 Aug 2020 06:12 PM PDT

I didn't see this posted here but I think it's relevant to hip hop. Joe is taking his podcast off Spotify because he doesn't like how they have been treating him and the crew. The latest episode is a couple hours long and covers it

Jidenna - An Open Letter to Black Men

Posted: 26 Aug 2020 07:40 AM PDT

https://twitter.com/jidenna/status/1298629139138838528?s=21 - Deleted

My name means "embracing the father," yet I am terrified of becoming one. How can I bring a child into a planet where black women are not believed and never feel safe anywhere in the world? I fear bringing a daughter into a world where Black women are raped and murdered after protesting, assaulted in a hotel and forced to sign gag orders, constantly tone policed on and offline, or intellectually and financially muzzled in the office. I fear bringing a son into a world where boys are socialized to suppress feelings of vulnerability, raised to believe women innately want to be dominated, initiated into a bro code of cowardly silence, and trained to use quiet misogynist microaggressions that aim to keep women in their place in the home, at the office, or at a party. The world I want to bring a child into is one where Black men's default response to a Black woman sharing her experience as a survivor is compassion, not disbelief.

I'm deeply troubled as I watch my peers deny the realities of women who have found the fortitude and courage to share their horrific experiences. I admire these women. I believe them. And I know their stories too well because they are the same as my friends, colleagues, lovers, sisters, mothers, aunties, neighbors. Today, it made me cry to wonder how they can still love us, how they can still protect us on the front lines, especially when we immediately interrogate their truths the way white men often do to us Black men and to Black women. There are a lot of slogans out there that speak to these truths, but using a slogan with no action is counterproductive. "Protect Black women at all costs." Protecting Black women doesn't mean "owning" Black women; no part of love includes possession. "I stand with Black women." Just saying we stand with Black women is not enough. Are we willing to look in the mirror with a therapist? Are we willing to see the patriarchy and misogyny within our crew? Are we willing to fire a business partner when we discover they violated a female coworker? Are we willing to call our boss out when they consistently interrupt women, dismiss women, or always ask women to take notes in meetings? Are we willing to read bell hooks? Are we willing to deescalate a domestic dispute amongst strangers on the street?

Are we willing to banish a homie who is known for creepy and predatory behavior at parties? Are we willing to vote and advocate for women's rights? Are we willing to say "fuck the bro code" at the same volume we say "fuck the police?" Are we willing to be confided in by survivors when they're afraid no one will believe them and when they blame themselves? Are we then willing to temper our rage so that they don't fear us being locked up for retaliating?

I'm in constant dialogue with women and men about how to create safe spaces for Black women in my business, platonic, and romantic relationships. This is because I'm not free from toxic residue. My evolutionary process truly began with believing women by default. Once this became my default setting, I was easily able to see how I was dismissive with a joke at a meeting, how I silently accepted the sexist recording studio culture, and how arguments with my partner started to resemble the toxic behavior I grew up watching in my father. Once I saw myself, I began to confront other men when they use daily microaggressions towards women like "calm down." I introduced a "jump ball" rule in my company where the mic automatically goes to a woman anytime she is interrupted by men. When I feel my chest is going to explode during a heated argument with my romantic partner, I take a walk around the block and circle back to slow down my heart until it's ready to listen.

This is what the "work" looks like, but this is just the beginning. It's a long uncomfortable journey through self-reflection, shame, accountability, redemption, and rehabilitation. Inevitably, you will lose parts of yourself. You will lose bredren on this road and you'll have to eat it as a casualty of war. This work is our duty. Black women have been doing the work of protecting us for far too long without us reciprocating. It's our duty to create a world that is safe for Black women with Black women.

Bubba Sparxxx is scamming people

Posted: 25 Aug 2020 08:25 AM PDT

Not sure if this is allowed here - just wanted to vent and raise some awareness.

I'm a producer & rapper and have worked with a few different platinum and Grammy nominated artists. Earlier this year I hit up Bubba Sparxxx about doing a verse on a song of mine. He responded saying that he loved the song and he's down. We agreed on a price and he asked for 60% down, which I sent over via CashApp. He accepted the money later that day, and I haven't heard a single thing back from him since - it's been over 4 months now.

I'm pretty disappointed with the whole situation. He was one of my favorite rappers and I was over the moon with excitement when he agreed to hop on the track. I've been emailing a few times a month checking in, have sent him texts, and tried to call, with zero response to anything.

I reached out to his former manager, Bobby Stamps, who responded saying he hadn't talked to Bubba in a little over a year. I also emailed Shannon, the owner of Average Joe Records (which Bubba is signed to). Shannon was very nice and quick to respond each time, and confirmed that I had Bubba's correct phone number, but after two weeks said he hasn't been able to get ahold of him, and to do whatever I need to do to get my money back.

This whole situation is really frustrating, and I feel like I've exhausted all means of communication.

Edit: Added how long it's been (4+ months)

Edit: I just noticed the "allegedly" flair. I can post screenshots of everything if needed.

Understanding An underrated HipHop Artist Saba

Posted: 25 Aug 2020 10:39 AM PDT

Today's the day I dropped my Understanding Saba's Care for me video. In case you don't know what that is, It's not a live response or reaction video. Its me going through track by track giving what I believe the meaning of each song is and giving you a visual idea of how the album came together.

I know my editing needs a bit of work. I just recently switched over to Premier Pro one week ago and I figured I'd make my first video with it special.

People don't appreciate Slick Rick

Posted: 25 Aug 2020 09:15 AM PDT

When talking about the legends in hip-hop you'll see the usual names we all know and love, but people very rarely talk about just how good slik Rick was. If you have no experience with him, listen to "the great adventures of slick Rick" which is a certified classic. He's had important singles like children's story which has an incredible flow and awesome story telling, and is famously parodied on mos def and talib kwalis Black star. My point is I feel slick Rick should definitely get more of a look in on the most GOAT lists. He's another one of those "your favourite rappers favourite rapper" types without seeing much love from outside rappers like Jay-Z who pays homage on "rulers back".
