With production mainly handled by Jason "Jay-E" Epperson, and Nelly contributing to all the lyrics, it introduced a new sound into hip-hop unique to his hometown, St. Louis. Four singles came from the album, the title track, "Country Grammar" (Hot Shit) peaked at number 7 on the Hot 100, "E.I" got close to the top 10, The album's biggest hit, "Ride Wit Me", got into the top 5, and Batter Up, which got released as a single on 9/11. The album was well received by critics, and topped the charts for 5 straight weeks. In 2016, it became the ninth Hip-Hop album ever to be certified Diamond by the RIAA.
