Would anyone be interested in a subreddit for Soundcloud rap?

Posted: 02 Apr 2017 06:21 PM PDT

I've noticed "Soundcloud rap" can be divisive on this sub, like when an XXX song makes the front page almost all the comments are negative (about his actual music, not just the charges). So I'm thinking about starting a subreddit specifically for soundcloud rap and wondering if anyone else would be interested. I'm not trying to make it so soundcloud rap is only posted on the new sub, just have a more dedicated sub to that style in addition to what's already posted here.

Edit: r/SoundcloudRap was already taken so I named it r/SoundCloudHipHop. In the next few days I'll be looking for people to help me moderate to set up some rules and guidelines for the sub.

Background/Description (courtesy of allmusic.com)

Sex, drugs, and rock & roll. And rap. On G-Eazy's second LP, When It's Dark Out, the self-made Young Gerald oozes confidence on a nocturnal journey of hedonistic rhymes set to the wooziest of productions. He spits about what he knows: gratification, how to attain it, and the energy expended in the process. Yet despite the pitfalls and pain that he raps about here, the lures of pleasure and fame remain mighty. G-Eazy covers familiar ground, spinning similar tales of drugs, partying, and fornicating over 17 addictive tracks without the decadence ever growing stale, like wandering through different, enticing corners of a dark club. By weaving such tales of danger and pleasure, G-Eazy delivers a bevy of vicarious escapes to his listeners. He manages to differentiate himself from easy race comparisons -- while also acknowledging his conflicting privilege -- rapping about being "the coldest white rapper in the game since the one with the bleached hair" and asking "what if the game didn't care I was white?" He's not corny like Macklemore, not scary like Eminem (circa 2000), not as earnest and afflicted as newcomer Witt Lowry. He's another breed: a rapper and a rock star. Throughout, G-Eazy is supported by an army of guests ranging from singers Bebe Rexha (on the hit "Me, Myself & I") and Keyshia Cole ("Nothing to Me") to hip-hop stars Big Sean ("One of Them") and Chris Brown ("Drifting"). Old-school icons Too $hort ("Of All Things") and E-40 ("Nothing to Me") even make appearances to offer a bit of street cred. Occasionally, G-Eazy takes pause, offering moments of introspection and reflection. On "For This," he provides a lyrical reminder of how far he's come, and how he did it by himself, while on "What If," he reminds listeners "I worked for years and studied the game." It's an assured nod to the past, when rising to the top came with a lot of discipline and grassroots support. Beneath the debauchery and boasting, G-Eazy sounds grateful to see his hard work pay off. Just don't stop his party.

Guidelines

This is an open thread for you to share your thoughts on the album. Avoid vague statements of praise or criticism. This is your chance to practice being a critic. It's fine for you to drop by just to say you love the album, but let's try and step it up a bit!!!

How has this album affected hip-hop? WHY do you like this tape? What are the best tracks? Do you think it deserves the praise it gets? Is it the first time you've listened to it? What's your first impression? Have you listened to the artist before? Explain why you like it or why you don't.

DON'T FEEL BAD ABOUT BEING LATE !!!! Discussion throughout the week is encouraged.

Next week's EAOTW will be Hopsin - Pound Syndrome

Joey Bada$$ Details His Thoughts Behind The Messages of All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ inside the Vinyl copy

Posted: 01 Apr 2017 08:26 AM PDT

I have tried to copy it out as close as possible but there might be a few mistakes as the quality of the picture is quite low that I was writing from.

Joey's thoughts:

What the government is doing amongst our people is down right evil. Disturbing but not surprising That's for certain. With all of the conflict and propaganda I believe they are Sony trying to slander. Start a civil war within the USA amongst the black and white and those alike. They are Simply pushing us to our limit so that we can all get together and get with it. They want us to rebel so that it makes it easier for them to kill us and put us in jails. Alton Sterling's are happening everyday in this country and around the world. The scary part is boys and girls is most of these stories don't make it to the news or reach most consciousnesses. It is for sure time that we as a people stand up for acknowledgement and accomplishment of what we call human rights. It is time to rebel. Better yet, raise hell. I just want everyone to be cautious about how they go about it because this is all a part of the governments plan. They have been plotting, literally begging for this to happen so the can kill is off using uprising and rebellion as the excuse in a timely fashion. The cancerous feeds The chemical warfare Economic Suffering is not working fast enough. There are many steps ahead of us is manifesting the future that they want. We have to work together in not only battling them on a physical plane but to outsmart them on a intellectual mental level the same. As black men I think our gangs need to do a better job at protecting us the people our communities and not assisting in destroying them brutally. Its Time to even the score because who do we call when the police break the law? We are so quick to pick up a gun to kill one another but not quick enough to pick it up to protect each other. The code word to killing a black man by the police is "he's got a gun'. Damned if he do. Damned if he don't. Damned if he runs. But what about them? Them murders got it. We need solutions. You better start plotting now. it's always been clear that they don't value our lives. My people have been suffering way too long and I'm tired of singing the same old song. People sitting like this shit isn't happening is down right wrong. Justice won't be served by a hashtag and that's the very reason I ask that what are we to do? We scattered around with no clue of this ugly truth. All we know is who they ridicule and who gets miniscule.

[DISCUSSION] Freddie Gibbs - You Only Live 2wice

Posted: 31 Mar 2017 05:44 PM PDT

been about 24 hours since it came out officially and well over 24 since it leaked. Sucks that the fresh thread got locked.

What do y'all think of the album. I really liked it, going in I was worried about it only being 8 songs and still being considered an album but I think the short runtime actually helped its overall cohesiveness. The entire project felt like one well told story strung over multiple songs.

Personal favorites were Crushed Glass, 24K Jesus, Alexys, Andrea, Amnesia, and Dear Maria (although I fucked with all of them)
