Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest confirms he is making a collaboration album with Megan Thee Stallion

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 10:24 AM PST

https://twitter.com/QtipTheAbstract/status/1329114032780013571?s=19

The video he quote tweeted was an interview with Megan herself, and she mentioned the forthcoming album.

"Q-Tip is the album thing... That's definitely the project where I'm gonna take my time... This one is gonna have "song songs", ya know? More depth, so I wanted some OG production for it."

It seems that Tip is going to be producing this record from the way she speaks, rather than an executive production role like on Danny Brown's most recent album, with only a couple beats.

What do y'all think about this?

What's in a Name? The Best Stage Names of Rappers

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 11:23 AM PST

One of my favorite parts of hip-hop is rapper's names. So much and so little can go into a name. For some they use it to mark different types of music they make, like Snoop Dogg becoming Snoop Lion for his reggae music. Some use names to mark their maturity and evolution as a rapper, like the dropping of his stage name as K. Dot and releasing music as Kendrick Lamar. Some rappers have a very clear line of thought that decided their name, like Dimitri Simms rapping under the stage name Meechy Darko or Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., standing at 5' 5", going by Lil Wayne.

Stage names are just such a rich part of hip-hop. Even having so many rappers just adopt a "Lil" on their name has become a staple of the genre, and I'd hate to see that go away.

So what are some of your favorite stage names in hip-hop? And what do you like about it?

I think GoldLink is up at the top of my list, it's such a simple name but it also bring out so much of hip-hop culture that talks about chains and showing off money.

I can’t recommend NPR’s Louder Than a Riot more highly.

This season investigates Bobby Shmurda's conspiracy case and features original interviews from Bobby, his mother, his record label, and more. The one-off episode about the RIAA's plot to destroy mixtapes (featuring an interview with DJ Drama about his RICO case) taught me a lot as well.

Seriously, if you're a hip-hop history fan, this one is a must-listen.
