Recommended If You Like Thread - December 21, 2019

Posted: 21 Dec 2019 10:04 AM PST

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Look through past posts here

ALSO please check out this thread for a list of some of the most popular recommendation requests and the suggestions provided

[DISCUSSION] Eminem - Relapse: Refill (10 Years Later)

Posted: 21 Dec 2019 05:27 AM PST

It's now been ten years since Em dropped the deluxe version of Relapse, with the songs Forever, Hell Breaks Loose, Buffalo Bill, Elevator, Taking My Ball, Music Box, Drop The Bomb On 'Em, My Darling and Careful What You Wish For. How y'all feeling after all this time? On the entirety of Relapse I don't think there's one song that I can say is bad, the deluxe tracks are fucking amazing and I still listen to this album regularly. Still want that Relapse 2 tho

[DISCUSSION] Young Money- We Are Young Money (10 years later)

Posted: 21 Dec 2019 10:47 AM PST

It has been 10 years since Young Money came out with their first collaborative tape with classic hits such as Bedrock, Every Girl and Roger That and introducing the world to artists like Nicki Minaj, Drake, Tyga and the grocery bag himself Gudda Gudda. This was our first real look at the crop of talent that Weezy brought together while he was still at the top of his career himself and they made it well known that YMCMB was fucking here and it was all Young Mula baby.

[Discussion] Are sites like Datpiff, LiveMixtapes, & Spinrilla even relevant anymore?

Posted: 21 Dec 2019 09:41 PM PST

Do people even use these anymore really? Over the past couple years I've been noticing most of the mainstream artists "mixtapes" are no longer dropped for free on these sites, they're all stream/buy. I remember a few years ago you could get Rich Homie Quan, Lil Wayne, Future, etc newest mixtapes for free; they'd be released w/a dj yelling some bullshit on the tracks but still free. With the shift to many of the bigger artists mixtapes no longer free, is there really any point to these sites anymore (other then to discover newer unsigned artists)? Are unsigned artists even really getting record deals b/c of streaming/downloads from Datpiff/etc anyway? I thought Soundcloud or YT were the big ones that were getting unsigned artists attention from labels.
