[DISCUSSION] What are some recently-emerging subgenres in hip hop?

In the age of Old Town Road and easily-available streaming, delineated genres don't really matter as much as they used to. But genre classifications can be useful to mark certain scenes and sounds as uniquely distinct and important. In the first half of this decade, genres like drill and cloud rap grew out of specific scenes to become important classifiers of hip hop in general.

So what are some styles that have recently emerged and might be considered unique subgenres in hip hop?

Some contenders off top:

  • Trap metal ($uicideboy$, City Morgue, early XXXTentacion, Ghostemane)

  • The "future bounce" of Smino, Goldlink and Amine

  • The melancholy, glitchy/choppy, sample-based, lo-fi experimental hip hop of MIKE, [slUms], Standing on the Corner, and SRS-era Earl

  • Bubblegum trap (early Rico Nasty, Yachty)

Are these distinct/important enough to be called subgenres? If not, what are some other spheres of hip hop that are?

What do you guys think about this situation ? Do you think it's a big step for hiphop culture ? Do you think he deserves it ? Let's discuss, i wonder what y'all think.

Also:

  1. It breaks the record previously held by "One Sweet Day" & "Despacito."

  2. The song has now surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify (all versions).

  3. He is the first and only artist to spend 17 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100 with one track.

  4. Billy Ray Cyrus is the first artist to earn a 16 week #1 single and a 16 week #1 album in US chart history.
