Recommended If You Like Thread - September 02, 2017

Posted: 02 Sep 2017 11:05 AM PDT

If you're looking for a recommendation give a description/music link/artist so that other people will know what you want.

Example: I want to hear an artist that sounds like old Kanye (you can get more specific but that's enough imo). And then someone will respond with X, Y, and Z

You can also recommend an artist/project/scene

Example: You guys should check out DJ Mustard's mixtape Ketchup RIYL (recommended if you like) post-hyphy and minimalistic west coast beats.

Remember, the point of this thread is to share music, try not to post stuff that's already really popular unless it answers someone's question.

Also the more descriptive you guys are with your posts the easier it is to help you find what you want, just stating an artists name isn't that helpful since you might only like one specific aspect of that artist's music.

Look through past posts here

ALSO please check out this thread for a list of some of the most popular recommendation requests and the suggestions provided

XXXTentacion free concert in Tampa cancelled because too many people show up, fans start a riot and police started throwing tear gas

Posted: 02 Sep 2017 10:49 PM PDT

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TUSh5fgFdg&feature=youtu.be

Shit was insane. Fans broke his mirror off. Apparently 4,000 people showed up and the venue capacity was 750 and the fire marshal said close it down for safety reasons.

Nonetheless the police start popping tear gas because the crowd started rioting and fighting each other. Had to protect my girl from the stampede that ensued.

7/10 would go again.

I found some more older (2000ish) Hip-Hop related threads

Posted: 02 Sep 2017 05:45 PM PDT

hi guys! i made an older thread about Kanye's college Dropout era threads

https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphopheads/comments/6w87sz/i_found_some_college_dropoutera_kanye_threads/

and that got like 942 upvotes so people are def interested in looking at them, so this time i dug deeper and found more threads. if this one gets good reception too, i am willing to do more digging. enjoy!

This one discusses JAY-Z's announcement retiring after the Black Album:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!searchin/rec.music.hip-hop/jay$20z|sort:date/rec.music.hip-hop/IZS2XNhYPFA/6aly7R4Sg6cJ

This one discusses the Top 3 most influential albums of all time:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!searchin/rec.music.hip-hop/jay$20z|sort:date/rec.music.hip-hop/BoXQ9xAPQ3g/BDfOZy9VGzEJ

And this one is about Updates on Dr.Dre's album Detox, lmao

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!searchin/rec.music.hip-hop/jay$20z|sort:date/rec.music.hip-hop/bz8VyQsHTx8/6SOjmaGtPAYJ

This one discusses the GOATs

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!searchin/rec.music.hip-hop/jay$20z|sort:date/rec.music.hip-hop/xopI2T10HC8/WxFS8-mKR-gJ

and funny thing, there is one comment that said "Jigga has 9 records in 8 years or something, 8 years is a while in the game" and i could not help but think of Drake's billboard record. felt like that is worth mentioning.

This one is about 50 Cent being better than Nas:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!searchin/rec.music.hip-hop/jay$20z|sort:date/rec.music.hip-hop/pwMxeilBCAM/LlQrWMdPRuwJ

The following threads are about the 50 Cent - Kanye West Graduation:Curtis beef discussions:

This one is interesting to look at, cause its about Hip-Hop being dead, and I say its interesting cause now we have hiphop songs hitting top 10 left and right:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!searchin/rec.music.hip-hop/kanye|sort:date/rec.music.hip-hop/4TKcjO6GRzw/OJ1lyRAq0B4J

This one is about AOTY 2007 discussion:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!searchin/rec.music.hip-hop/jay$20z|sort:date/rec.music.hip-hop/ZxMwWhvGK00/BIvGBg8zWLYJ

And i thought this would be interesting to include:

https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!topic/rec.music.hip-hop/rKUILXGoguI%5B1-25%5D

So my thoughts on those, people thought Kanye was dumb and trash. people complained about circlejerk, and people made outlandish claims. not so different from what happens today in /r/hiphopheads

and if you like this thread tell me, i am glad to make more of these as i do enjoy making them.

[Original] I performed my first ever concert at a clothing boutique called ROOTED in Nashville, TN. 300 people showed up and it was live

Posted: 02 Sep 2017 08:32 PM PDT

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS-SOY0Vegw - here's me performing the first song "101.1"

I just dropped a new EP called The Future is AgentPaco. I consider myself a pretty self-aware guy and I don't take this whole rapping thing too seriously and I think that comes across in my music. Since I'm really into rap music and fashion, I decided to make my first ever live performance at a local clothing boutique called ROOTED. I had no idea how many people would come, but I ordered some tshirts, got my friend to DJ, and prepared my set.

300 people wound up showing up and it was honestly the best night of my life. I sold over 100 shirts, a ton of people I knew and a ton of people I didn't came out and supported, and I got to do something so cool and unique. I've posted some music on here before but honestly my voice is pretty white and I guess if you don't know me you don't realize I'm not trying to be a hard-ass rapper. I just wanted to share this experience with you guys and hopefully I can grow and get better at performing live!

If you were interested in the song I was performing or the rest of my EP, it's now available on Spotify and Apple Music and Tidal and everything else!

Rap Artists to Look Out for in 2018 - New York

Posted: 31 Aug 2017 07:34 PM PDT

What's up everybody, I saw a thread a couple months ago about the same kind of idea, but, one rapper from each state, I was thinking I could write up a piece on a couple rappers from EVERY State.

New York

Name - Bishop Nehru

Soundcloud Link - https://soundcloud.com/bishopnehru

Songs To Check Out

WW3

2014 Love$truck77

Bishop is well known in most rap groups due to his collaboration with MF Doom (NehruvianDOOM) , Nas, and opening up for Wu Tang Clan back in 2016. He has been praised HEAVILY within rap circles due to his hard hitting lyrics and crazy beats. He's got a flow unmatched by many other young emcees, and he will definitely be making waves within the next few years.

Bishop reminds me of MF Doom much in a way of he never stops rapping, he keeps going with his flow. Him and Doom are very similar.

At age 13, Nehru began making jazz tracks and hip hop instrumentals under the name "Kelz Scott" soon being changed to the name Kile Kanvas at age 14. Nehru released his earlier works on the Odd Future forum. Nehru chose his stage name from a combination of Tupac's character in the movie Juice, noting that the character of Bishop inspires him "to go out and get mine, you've got to earn respect" and Nehru is taken from the former prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Name - JJ Arns

Soundcloud Link - https://soundcloud.com/jjarns

Songs To Check Out

Heaven and Hell Freestyle ft. Marz

Awake

JJ is relatively unknown in the city, but has his music bumping around the Hudson Valley and Westchester counties. JJ has a unique, deep, easy to distingush voice, when you hear a JJ Arns song, you know it's a JJ Arns song.

JJ started in High School with a song that dissed a fellow student who cheated on his girlfriend, from there, the entire school knew his name. He was a icon in his high school.

He borrows styles from artists like Rick Ross and Future to make a very trap based song. JJ has been steadily improving everything in his repertoire. Most of his songs deal with depression, and the impact it has had on his life, breaking up with his girlfriend, and other things that have changed his life for better or for worse. JJ's first album should be coming out in the first quarter of 2018.

Part of group called Unedited Musik, formed in college with other artists from Five Towns College, JJ looks ahead to 2018 with much passion, hard work, and ambition to make his hobby a rap career.

Name - Chris Rivers

Soundcloud Link - https://soundcloud.com/chrisrivers-2

Songs To Check Out

Ten Toes Down Freestyle

Tri Force Freestyle

Rivers is hip-hop royalty, the son of the late Big Pun. But far from leaning on lineage, Chris Rivers has made a name for himself in the indie scene as an elite spitter that could go toe to toe with any MC from any era.

His two projects from 2016, Medicated Consumption 1 and 2, are filled with old school production that showcases Rivers' elite technical skills. Food for Thought

That Chicken ft. Fabulous

Hardcore underground heads who have been following the state of the NYC scene since Pro Era's come up recognize Dyme-A-Duzin, thanks to his early association with Joey, CJ Fly and Steez. Today he's signed to Atlantic, but hasn't managed to make a splash commercially.

Much like Pro Era's success, Dyme-A-Duzin's major label deal proves there's a place in the mainstream machine still for boom bap artists representing traditional New York style. While the exact size of that place is still to be determined, if Joey's success is any indication, boom bap and album sales aren't mutually exclusive.

Macho on Coke ft. Mach Hommy

Bob Backlund

When it comes to new rappers coming out of New York, you can almost always expect a handful of them to be traditionalists. Some manage to not sound dated. Westside Gunn and Conway harken back to the days of Mobb Deep and CNN, but are unmistakably making music for a new generation.

The tough-minded rappers from Buffalo have quietly become the underground favorites thanks to projects like FLYGOD and Hitler Wears Hermes IV which don't slouch in their use of dusty soul loops and feature fellow intricate New York MCs Roc Marciano and Action Bronson. The self-proclaimed fashion rebels have promised at least four projects in 2017—two of them with legendary producers Just Blaze and Alchemist. The Griselda Gang plans to re-up with new wave NYC street raps by any means necessary in 2017.

Thanks ya'll for taking the time to read this, if you want me to do this for every state and make it series, let me know in the comments. Open to all comments, questions and concerns, thanks again.
